Re: [Chevelle-List] Strange Dilemma= which to keep vs. which to sell
Keep the 57,you already have a kick ass 67.This way you have a "new style" car that is still almost 40 years old and an "old style" car ,when you are in the mood for 50,s cruising that will be a half century old in less than 4 years.Nice problem to have. I have to sell at least one of these vehicles. b. The 67 Chevelle SS is matching numbers and completely restored so it stays. Appraised at 32K. But, you would not want to use as a daily driver. c. The 67 Chevelle Malibu has a 383 stroker, headers, and in great condition. New gas tank, new radiator. Engine good condition. Little rust. A good driver. Not a show car.Brakes have to be upgraded. Interior original and new headliner and carpeting. Great condition. Has powerglide trans. Can be upgraded to 350 turbo. Underneath of car has the classic rust coating they used in 60's and 70's. Sounds loud and proud. Carter Carb, nice stereo system. Alarm. d. The 57 Chevy has original 283 engine and powerglide trans. Re-done interior, power steering and front disc. brakes, new gas tank, new radiator. Needs new trunk pan, and 2 new inner fender wells. Needs frame to be sandblasted. Needs to have engine bay and hood to also be sandblasted. Not a show car, but a good cruiser. So between the 67 Chevelle Malibu and 57 Chevy which one would you keep. The 57 Chevy probably has more value than the 67 Malibu. I love the way the 67 Malibu handles but guidebooks indicate value is much less than a 67 SS--or even a 57 Chevy. Well, again, lame question. [Chevelle-List] Gateway Area Chevelle Club info
I have enclosed an address ( http://www.gatewaychevelles.com/ ) for those of you asking about the 16th Annual Midwest Chevelle Regional. It is hosted this year by the GACC here in St. Louis. I just picked up my 1968 Chevelle SS from the restoration shop where I had them do a little touch-up work so I will be ready for this show in Sept. If you need any further info just click on the left side where it says "2003 Midwest Chevelle Regional" and it will take you to an info page. By the way, they are still looking for people to assist in several areas during the show, including judging, security, etc. There are many great places to stay overnight in the area, including Harrah's Casino. It will be one of the larger and best attended shows in the Midwest this year. Steve E. ACES 5494 1968 SS396 Chevelle http://www.gatewaychevelles.com/

Jim, Don't use WD40. Use a white lithium grease and use it lightly. If you remove the cable you can hang it over night and let the lubricant work it's way down the length by gravity. WD40 will make things better briefly and then worst after it evaporates. The Kano products others have mentioned on this list are also very good. Mike Holleman - Original Message - From: "J. Jim, I wouldn't use wd-40. You want to use dry graphite powder. It is available at the auto parts stores, I believe, in a tube the size of a sharpie pen. Disconnect the speedo from under the dash and squeeze the tube to blow the graphite in and reconnect. It shouldn't take long to start working. This stuff is also good for door locks. I'm glad you like the pics. The one of your Elky in my mirror turned out really good - better than I expected. The one I took of Jim's didn't turn out so good because my window was rolled up. I am curious about the traction of the bias ply vs. the radial. I expect the ride to be a little rougher, smoother ride is a benefit of radials. I ordered Good Year Poly Glas F60's for my Chevelle, my build sheet had the code for "15 F60". [Chevelle-List] Paint buffing experience.
Regarding buffing, I just did a buff and polish on my Chevelle and it took exactly 8h. I don't know how you could do it much faster. http://webpages.charter.net/perfmark/cars/chevelle/buffpolish/buffandpolisho ldbody.html Mark 71 SS -Original Message- [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Craig Ellis Subject: RE: [Chevelle-List] paint buffing question My paint guy says it takes a solid 8 hours to buff a vehicle like my pickup truck and it's a clear coat finish that I just let go too long without elbow grease. He says you have to start with compound, do the whole vehicle, change to some intermediate miracle goop, do the whole vehicle, then go over it again with fill-n-glaze or some modern equivalent...then wax. Not only does it take a day's labor, it sounds like hard labor to me. At my age, I'm allergic to hard labor. Eman -Original Message- Thanks Tom, That seems to be what he is leaning toward too, but of course as the customer I was just wondering if it's really worth it. He is saying 2 days of time plus materials, which frankly translates to about $1,000. That's a big nut, so I wanted to get some opinions first. John Nasta -Original Message- John, Let him have it a few more days and buff it out. Both of mine were buffed the day after they were painted. The paint takes 3-6 months to fully cure. Also, when you get it home, it would be a good idea to wash it, but do not wax it for about 2 weeks, it does something to the paint. Re: [Chevelle-List] Strange Dilemma= which to keep vs. which to sell
well not just being a chevelle guy, I would sell the 57, mainly because it would probably give you more money for the other two cars, and it seems like your more partial to the chevelle just my $.02 - Original Message - From: Ken's Email To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, July 04, 2003 7:09 AM Subject: [Chevelle-List] Strange Dilemma= which to keep vs. which to sell This may sound like a lame question, but rambling thoughts on too many classic cars causes me to ask opinions about selling one (or even two): - I have a 67 Chevelle SS, 67 Chevelle Malibu, and 57 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe a. But, one has got to go. Thoughts ? Happy 4th July. K McDee Do you Yahoo!?SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!

Re: [Chevelle-List] Q: Which brake shoe should be facing the front?*
Pelle, It looks like your doing quite a bit of work on your car, a suggestion would be to purchase a Chiltons manual for your car. It would make your life quite a bit easyer and a lot less stressfull when doing repair work your not used to doing, they run about $15.00 USD. Rocky = A Man And His Chevelle, It's A Beautiful Thing!! I used the little hole on the top/side & poured 3x quarter gallon bottles into it! I have made a fool of myself haven't I?? Pelle Andersson

I don't know if Ron put the tape there or just left itthere, but this is the kind of quick and dirty b.s. that you can expect ifyou hire him. For the sake of about 25 cents worth of rubber hose, my wholecar could have gone up in flames if not for the fact that I have had tocheck and repair all of Ron's work.I have ordered a couple of floor pan sections and will get that fixedproperly. I will also get the holes in the outer wheelhouses fixed. I don'tthink I will be able to do anything about the quarter panel being hung wrongor the general condition of the finish, but suffice to say that really thewhole car has to be done over, and the $9,000 that I paid to Ron was moneyright out the window.John Nasta-To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.htmlTo start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [Chevelle-List] 12 Bolt Rear ID help
George, Sounds like you found the casting date for the center section C216 - March 21, 1966. The only number I can see is on the small triangular pad at the bottom left of the diff. Those numbers are C216. I took the cover off and counted the teeth and it's a non-posi 3.31. The guy told me the rear came out of a 65 and should bolt right up to the 66 but I want to be sure before I spend a bunch of time cleaning the thing! The numbers almost jive with the reference I have that says it would be a 65-67 12 bolt 3.31 but the code is incomplete. Thanks George[EMAIL PROTECTED] TC #1921 ACES #5880
RE: [Chevelle-List] 12 Bolt Rear ID help
Title: Message Many times the codes are very difficult to read and should be stamped onthe bottom left or right axle tube either adjacent to the carrier housing or about 8"-10" inboard from the backing plates for 65-69 rear ends. An example stamping would be something like GC1025B for 3.36 Posi, Oct 25, Buffalo. Check the rear spring mounting pad. The rear spring should have a plate and bolt holding the bottom of the spring, later years used a smaller pigtail that slipped over a 1"-2" cup. I've been told that 67 was a transition year and could have either. See http://www.chevellestuff.com/tech/rear_end_widths.htm for examples of each. Rear end widths are the same from 64-67, 68-72 are wider so if it came out of a 65, it should fit.
