[Chevelle-list] Morphing Photo at Car Show

2008-09-01 Thread Dan Solomon
I was at a car show this weekend and saw a photo sitting in front of a truck
that changed as you walked by. It showed a picture of the truck as a rust
bucket and then it changed to a photo of the same truck restored. What a great
idea if you started with a basket case like I did. I spoke with the guy but he
couldn't tell me who it bought it from, just that he picked it up at a show. I
did some searches on the web and found out that they are called Lenticular
images but cant find anyone that sells single large photos.
Anyone on the list come across a vendor that sells these prints? If you have a
company name it would be appreciated.

By the way, it was the first show I entered and I brought home a trophy! Oh yea!

Godspeed, Dan Solomon

Dan, congrats on your first trophy. Was that the show at harford community
college. I was going to go there but the guys I was going to go with decided to
go to the one at the Maryland state fair instead. So I went there with them. It
still was a good time, although they did'nt hand out any trophys. There's been
a bunch of cars meeting at the wall mart on rt. 43 on sat. evenings. Last week
I met a guy with a 70 chevelle that looked just like mine and I guess yours
too. It was pretty cool seeing another one. Allthough he had a 454 instead of
the 396. I've been having a great time showing her off. I had the only 70 ss at
the fair yesterday, so it drew alot of attention. Anyway I just wanted to say
congratulations. Bob.

My SBC DSL (in CA) with email routed through my domain host has not had a
problem with this list so far. My domain was recently blacklisted, wrongly I
believe, and the blacklist company, backscatter, wants money to take me off
the list.

I also was bounced. I could send mail to my self and receive mail from
friends but nothing from the list. I could send to the list but not
receive. Al explained it was SBC causing the problem. I would get one or
two emails and then nothing. I called ATT to complain but to no avail.
They tried to tell me it was Yahoo's doing. I don't buy it. ATT thinks
the mail is spam and is blocking it. They black listed chevelle.net. The
consider it a bulk (spam) mailer. If you are using sbcglobal.net and you
don't have a problem yet, you will. I had to switch this account to Gmail
to get the list mail. Everything is working fine so far. I only use Gmail
for the chevelle list. I still use sbcglobal for all other mail. And if
you download your mail to Outlook, Gmail can do that.

[Chevelle-list] lost emails/1965 help

2008-09-01 Thread Steve Sipos
I too lost several emails within in the group.

I'm still looking for help on a 1965 I've got my heart set on. (I wrote before
but the kind repliers were lost)

I'm seriously considering buying this car sight unseen. Only photographs.

Of course I'm hoping this car is everything I hope it to be. How do I handle a
situation like this? Title, taxes, transfer, money transfer, etc, The car is in
Kentucky.
I'm in Illinois (Chicagoland)

Open transport is in the $450.00.

How do I handle all of this? How to trust the owner (my money wise) Getting the
car here without me traveling - I'm in poor health. Any help would be great.
Please help a G.M. guy. Come on guys - tell me the watch outs. I want this nice
ride. You only live once. I want to cruise a bit while I still can.

2008-09-01 Thread Michael Pell
A word of caution.
At a minimum, get someone to go look at it. There's often someone on
this list who's near an area. Ofter them some money for their time.
And/or you can try to arrange a professional appraisal. Pictures can
be incredibly decieving (and maybe even doctored up), and a write-up can
be completely false.

Plenty of people get scammed and screwed everyday.

If you can't get either of the above suggestions, you should probably
pass on the car. There's plenty of nice cars for sale, and will be more.

take care,
Mike

2008-09-01 Thread TinIndian47
Mike, like you I wanted a 64-65 very bad. I had a 64 when I got married back
in 69 and always wanted another one. Finally wife gave in and told me to get
it, come to find out she wanted it as bad as me.

I found one on ebay out side of D.C. I called the man and talked to him
about selling it off ebay and he called me back with yes. All I had was
pictures
and his word, being a 60 y/o kid at heart I took his word. I sent a cashiers
check but fedx the next day. Then I realized how stupid I had been, after
several days the transport picked the car up and I felt a little better.

I live on Galveston Bay in Texas and it took almost a week to get here. It
finally did and boy was I relived. It was almost as he described it, and I am
very happy with the car.

Would I do it again, probably not, I sent check and he could have cashed it
and kept the car, or did he really have a car to sell? Mine experience worked,
but I would advise you to go thru what I did.

I do have a 65 just like my old 64 that I traded in on a 69 GTO and love
it. The original 327 and 4 speed runs great and turns heads, although not
stock. But for a 61 y/o it is great, hope you get your dream car, just be a
little
more careful than me. It worked out, but what could have been scares me as
an after thought.

It stays on go during the storm season!!!

2008-09-01 Thread Chuck Speake
Good Advice Mike.

I purchased my car outside of Louisville, KY in 2002. I could not find
anyone at the time to check the car out for me so I flew down and he
picked me up at the airport and drove me about a half hour to his house
to check out the car. I really wanted to have the car transported, but
didn't have any contacts with a trailer, and no time to make
arrangements with a hauler, so I drove it home. No problems, but today
I would not do it that way, as there could have been any number of
things that could have lead to disaster during the drive back to
Chicago.
I can understand wanting the car badly, I was in the same position, but
fortunately for me I could travel.

The following person has advertised in my Chevy car club for years and
is dependable.

I'm looking at a PJ Trailer car hauler 518 D.
It is an 18' tandem, has a 2' drop tail, claimed to have about 4000 miles
on it, 2006 model.

They are asking $2000.
Is this a good buy?

Anyone have any experience with this brand?

Thanks in advance.
