2006-12-10 Thread Paul Kaiser
A Different Christmas Poem
The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
What are you doing? I asked without fear,
Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night. It's my duty to stand at the
front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,
Then he sighed, That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers.
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.

So go back inside, he said, harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right.
But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
Give you money, I asked, or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son.
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.

PLEASE, Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you
can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S.service
men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in
this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of
our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

now is 100-200 yards before the cameras ( 6 sets of cameras along 8 miles of

should I wait to paint it then?? I'm not worried about it rusting...

Hey guys... I pulled my tank and dumped the old gas out, and thought I'd
 clean it up a big...
The pic shows the tank after I cleaned up a bit over half of one side...
just water and a scotchbrite sponge.
After I took these I used a soft abrasive disk on my die grinder and
cleaned up the crap on the filler neck and the
few spots where the undercoating had gotten 'stringed' across... I may
go ahead and hit the entire tank with the pad...
I was planning on just painting it black before I put it back in... any
other suggestions?? There is NO rust on the tank
at all... I'd thought of POR, but that may be overkill... I don't ever
intend for the car to see the rain... it'll only be driven
every couple of weeks, etc... Any suggestions?

hardware stores and dental clinics. Be sure to obtain the proper permits
to operate the unit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the
Food and Drug Administration in Washington D.C. USA. Be sure to
carefully unpack the kit and place each component in its accompanying
mesh safety bag. Mount the Pershing DF4 mesinator on top of the
perforated Gerring Mach 77 refibulator and attach them using the
eight-millimeter torque fork. Be sure that the refibulator is mounted
at a 66 degree angle and properly dispersed so that it is flush with
the curved section of the Pyrex thistle tube. Place the four
sections of the triangular separation gear into the posture cylinder
and lock them into place using the band aid adhesive strip. Insert the
wiggling pin into the wobbling hole, making sure that it seated
correctly. Place the D cell battery and the eleven 9 volt batteries in
the power chamber. The device should be calibrated before operation
using the optional digital corkscrew accessory pack prior to
operation. Insert the digital corkscrew through the electronic
combustion service chamber using caution not to touch the reinforced
tungsten igniter control module and quickly turn the inverter drive to
28.6 degrees. Turn the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription
Cancellation Unit upside down and hit the bottom plate with a 48-ounce
ball-peen hammer while shaking the unit vigorously. Force open the
door to the incineration valve compartment and set the pressure gauge
to 719 psi. Close the door and seal it shut with duct tape. The unit
should now be properly calibrated and ready to use. Before activating
the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit, you must
first elevate it to a height of 229 feet above sea level to insure
that the unit receives the proper oxygen level and barometric
pressure. Point the aerial to 17 degrees north by northeast to within
the parameters of the Telstar GS-2 weather satellite and apply
pressure to the wing shaft on the southern most section of the modular
accelerator. Using the special ratchet adapter supplied with the unit,
rotate the heater core to the "on" position. The "on" position has
been obtained when the green light begins to flash, signifying that
the red light is about to go off. Once the red light is off, flip
the toggle switch labeled "ON/OFF" to the "ON" position and count to
47 before logging on to the system. Logon using your username and
password and wait for the prompt. Once prompted you must check the box
with the appropriate action you wish to take and then press the
pressure release button and turn off the compressor while turning the
hand crank at 231 meters per minute. Next, press control, alt, delete,
caps lock, shift, number lock, escape and tab simultaneously.
Press enter. You will have one second to complete the procedure.
If you fail to respond in the time limit allowed, simply purchase a
new Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit and start
from the beginning. Please remember that this is the only way we will
accept for you to unsubscribe from this service. We have made
every attempt to simplify the procedure for your convenience. Failure
to comply with the unsubscribe policy will result in immediate
termination of your subscription so please follow the above directions

  Merry Christmas Happy Holidays.

Well, I thought I was almost done with my car..was spurred on with the
recent paint your engine posts so I thought I'd like to pull the engine and
check a few things while I had it out to paint and found a can of worms..looks
like I'm going to have to rebuild the motor..My question is while I'm in the
process what should I do?? It's a 68 396/350 horse that I would like to
do a few upgrades to maybe heads, cam.. I figure while it's out and I gotta do
it anyway, at least that's what I'm telling my wife..i'd like to make it a
little stronger without getting too crazy..I know it's a pretty broad question
but I figured I'd just see everybody's thoughts.. you all have been so

  Folks-
I am new to Team Chevelle - as of
this morning in fact. I have owned my Chevelle since 1987, through High
School, College, and beyond. I am active duty Air Force, and have an
  assignment to Fresno
  California pending
for April 2006. Finally, I am in a position to retrieve my car from my
father's house in central California and dive
into a rectification - but need a bit of help.
  I am fairly mechanically inclined,
but have never disassembled a car before. I want to do a complete
frame-off rectification, complete with powder coat to the frame, brake and
power train upgrades, the full works. But is there a publication or book
that outlines the best sequence of events for a successful frame-off
rectification? I already have an assembly manual, and have nearly read
it cover to cover. I have a positive attitude, and fairly decent budget,
and 3 years to complete the project. In order not to mess things up too
bad, and make the road to success more smooth, I am just looking for a
  "playbook." Does one exist?

Recently picked up a ' 69 Chevelle SS in excellent condition inside and out
.The motor is from a '72 Chevelle as best I can tell from the number on the
engine block ( made on March 20 at the Tonawanda plant ). Would like to find
out what would be involved to locate the correct date code 396 engine . I
plan on keeping the car for a very long time due to waiting 36 years to get
one .My neighbor / big brother bought one back in May of ' 69 and I fell
in love with it then . I would say it was worth the wait to finally get my
own . I'm also a lucky guy because my wife also shares the same passion for
that car.

I wouldn't be surprised if that server can't handle the
load. Here's what I got. "This site has been temporarily disabled.
If you are the owner of the site, please contact customer care. "
Maybe I should've saved the file
Basically it was a 68 or 69 Chevelle street racing what looked like a mid
80s Cutlass (it was a night race and poor video quality). Long story
short, the 80s car wrecked, and it was literally spit in half. The car
completely seperated behind the driver's seat, and looked to be a short
distance away. And the rear half of the body was peeled off of the
frame. It was unbelieveably destroyed..
Then there was some track footage of some 78-ish malibus pulling wheel
stands.

Hi Guys/Gals,

I need some advise on a wood
grain dash strip. My problem is I have A/C and am trying to paint black texture
coating on it.( to make it like an SS)
One; with sem 39853 texture
coating at first when I apply it , it sprays nice but when it dries the texture
flattens out.
Two; The other paint I used
is tempo black wrinkle finish but is hard to achieve the wrinkle.

Any suggestions would be
great. My E-Mail is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks
Paul
