Hi Bob,

Wow, small world! Let your friend know we thought it was a very nice car
We checked it out more than once! The guy that was riding shotgun with me
is a huge Nova fan. He's currently building a (I think) 62 wagon but he's
changing it to a 2 door. I went through my pictures and I found one when we
were leaving and there's a white Nova two cars ahead of me, maybe it was
you? I added the pic to the LS6 page.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it next year because I'll be in the
process of transferring. I don't think my wife will be willing to sell the
house and pack everything while I'm out hot rodding my Elky around the
country! But I will be at the Good Guys show in Charlotte at the end of
this month.

Herb

2005-10-22 Thread Joe LaRovere

Here is the info I got on the fuel system mods.

Joe,
The tank listed in Jegs is by their request for a stock style conversion
that can be adapted with an after market fuel pump such as the ones made by
Walbro or Bosch which will handle your proposed HP out put but will be
pushing the pump to its limits. I recommend that you look into our Stealth
line of fuel tanks utilizing an Aeromotive A1000 with a 100 Micron
Pre-filter all in the tank. The tank is baffled front to back and features
a unique fuel reservoir for the fuel pick-up. This reservoir ensures proper
fuel pick up when moving with great force in a lateral or longitudinal
direction. The tank it self fits in the stock location and has a CNC
machined access cover at the top should you ever need to service the pump
and/or filter. The line sizes are a -10 AN feed and a -8 AN return. We can
make these exit anywhere on the tank you would like preferably on the front
face of the tank. The proposed set up is suitable for the 650-to1000+ HP
range. This tank can be purchased directly from us or through Jegs on a
special order basis only. I will give you a call tomorrow so we can further
discuss this.

Thank you for your interest,

Joe, I hope to do the same swap in my 70 Nova as soon as I find the engine
and transmission package. Since the Nova uses the same subframe it looks
like I should be able to get parts since there were some recent articles
in Chevy HiPerformance magazine. It appears to me that you should have
less problem since the 1st gen Camaro was a rear steer and I think yours
is front steer so you should have less problem with clearances. Motor
mount adapters for the Camaro set the engine back 2 1/2 to clear the
subframe and headers are real expensive. Good luck and I look forward to
seeing some answers to your question.

Tim,

I have checked into stand alone harnesses
like Painless and Street and performance. I have the complete stock
harness and ECM and feel confident enough that I can make it work. I'm
pretty good with electrical and if I get the wiring diagrams I know I can figure
it out. I was thinking of going with a Dakota Digital Dash for gauges to
clean things up. I have a gauge pillar and column mounted tach now.
The spedo works but is way off due to gear change to 4.10. I know I can
fix that but with the 4L60E my spedo wont work any way. The Dakota spedo
will work with the new computer controlled trans.

[Chevelle-List] 71 Chevelle SS restoration update.

I added some new pictures of this car coming together. All it needs now is
exhaust and insurance and it will drive. The engine, frame, underhood, and
suspension are done.

http://webpages.charter.net/perfmark/cars/chevelle/chevelle.htm

The body and interior still need restoring.

BTW, I ordered the last front SS grill emblem from a place called Auto City

new ones for the whole car while I still can. Classic Muscle from NC has a
national back order or no longer produced on about 1/3 of the emblems
needed on a 71.

Re: [Chevelle-List] '71 Chevelle 4-speed Drive shaft

2002-04-21 Thread MICRLASER
you can use a driveshaft from any TH350 car or one with a 10 bolt rear. The length is the same as a 4 speed car, you would have to use a "junk joint" if it was a 10 bolt rear car. The u joint caps on a 10 bolt rear are smaller than a 12 bolt if i am not mistaken. They make a joint with 2 different caps, one to fit the TH350 shaft 12 bolt rears. This is what i have on mine, except I had to have the TH350 shaft shortened to accomodate the TH400 tranny

The reason that I ran a relay on my 67 ElCamino is that the wires that power
the ign terminal on the fuze block are still quite small and the current has
to run through a great distance ignition switch circuit and interior harness
that has small wires too. By runnung a relay you can have a very short power
wire and use a big a wire as you can find. I ran my #8 wire from the
positive cable on the starter This helps create cleaner and higher coil
discharge voltage that can add to lower et's. Using a relay is not to ease
installation - it adds performance.

You didn't say what the load was for the relay, only the supply.
However,
 I
would expect that this relay might be providing voltage to the starter
solenoid. This is a common fix for the hot soak problem many Chevy
starters suffer from. If so, then I think your ignition switch is
definitely suspect for the run-on problem.

But first, verify for sure that this relay is in line with the starter
solenoid. If it's still in line with the coil, get rid of it, see if
the
problem persists, and if so look to the ignition switch as your likely
  problem.

Re: [Chevelle-List] 71 chevelle HEI problem

On my 67 El Camino I have a 30A bocsh relay powered by the purple-run and
yellow-start original ignition wires. It works just fine!
If the yellow wire from the starter was connected to the wrong terminal on
the solenoid I think that that could cause a problem.
Check your solenoid. I have seen some GM starters that can bolt on but don't
have the right solenoid for older cars.(The yellow wire brings power to the
Ignition while the car is cranking.-If it was powered all the time than the
relay would never shut off)

You didn't say what the load was for the relay, only the supply. However,
I
would expect that this relay might be providing voltage to the starter
solenoid. This is a common fix for the hot soak problem many Chevy
starters suffer from. If so, then I think your ignition switch is
definitely suspect for the run-on problem.

But first, verify for sure that this relay is in line with the starter
solenoid. If it's still in line with the coil, get rid of it, see if the
problem persists, and if so look to the ignition switch as your likely
 problem.

I ran a #10 wire from the battery to a Bosch Relay that was mounted on the
firewall. The relay is energized in the key on position. Not sure which
wire this is, but the car is at a body shop and I can't get at it right
now.

Wait a minute. What relay? I don't have a relay between the ignition
switch and the coil on my '70. This could be a possible problem, as well -
if the relay isn't de-energizing.

Replace the ignition switch - especially if you're talking an occasional

Don, could you please describe the way your HEI's
wired? Since your '71 didn't come with it from the
factory someone obviously added it later.

When I convert from points to HEI (or any other ignition
requiring 12 volts) I like to run a 10-gauge wire
straight from the IGN tap in the fuse block, if it's
available.

Interesting. Does this relay do anything else other
than feed the coil? I would start by seeing if there's
any current going through the coil lead with the
ignition off, then with the ignition on, and then with
the ignition off again. Also, consider these 3 tests
with the indicator placed between the relay and its
source of power; this will help determine if the problem
is with the relay or some element located before it in
the circuit.
