Re: [Chevelle-List] tune up
I upgraded to the Petronix Ignitor, not the Ignitor II. The distributor must be pulled to install the first Ignitor that I tried, to check for end play in the distributor because of the use of a magnetic ring under the rotor. I didn't leave it in because I couldn't get it to run with it in, thought it was the Ignitors fault. Got new one in mail and let sit in box on shelf for 5 months. One day I received new Jegs catalog and saw that a different Ignitor module is available that the distributor does not have to be pulled to install, no need to re-time, etc. The new Ignitor has an LS designation in the part number which stands for Lobe Sensor. No gap to check, simply screw onto base plate, feed wires through distributor and connect to coil. Have been using for almost a year with no problems, but sure to follow the directions included very carefully including all checks as you go along. Re: Re: [Chevelle-List] tune up PERTRONIX UPDATE
About my last post on the Pertronix. DISREGARD what I said about the 12 volts and the ballast resistor or wire! I checked the last set of instructions from a Chevy installation and it said, NOTE : "A resistor wire or ballast resistor may or may not be included in the original equipment. They are NOT to be changed in any way with the installation of an igniter system. Sorry for the misinformation. Bad info. is worse than none at all. Sheesh, time for bed. Sorry again. I would check your power source for the Pertronix with the key in the "accessory" position to be sure it's not hot though to be safe. Also the Pertronix instructions are pretty clear but do keep in mind the Pertronix likes a full 12 volts. Example : Not off the output side of a ballast resistor or resistor wire. They do have a web site too. I don't recall the address but I'm sure you can find it with a word search on Pertronix. Very good product, not very expensive, easy to install, and works great! I have installed it in my 65 Imperial Crown 413 daily driver. Re: [Chevelle-List] tune up
I don't have any personal experience with Pertronix but I've heard a lot of good things about them. They use them a lot in my Opel GT club. Accel makes a simple bolt in electronic distributor also. That's what I have in my chevelle. At any rate, I recommend changing over to electronic unless you just want to stay original. Don > I am going to tune up my new 64 Chevelle 283.
