[Chevelle-list] MSD box location
Folks where is the best place to mount a msd box on a 66 velle? It is the 6al with rubber mounts for shock. On the firewall it is too difficult to get in back of it to screw the nuts on. It is'nt like the regular 6 with self tapping screws because of the rubber absorbers. would it be OK to mount it on the wheel well? Would that be too close to heat? Need Help, Thanks John H. 66
RE: [Chevelle-list] MSD box location
I mounted mine on the firewall with the rubber mounts.(right above the heater box)If you drill the right size hole, they will screw in there and stay solid. Mine has been mounted this way for 3 years. But I think the wheel well would be ok too, as long as you keep it high up on the wheel well. Heat shouldn't be an issue there. -Dave -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Sunday, February 22, 2004 7:24 PMTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject: [Chevelle-list] MSD box location Folks where is the best place to mount a msd box on a 66 velle? Re: [Chevelle-list] MSD box location
John this is my $.02 worth... I know many have put MSD boxes under the hood of their cars and been fine, but I have personally done it on my daily driver and a few other cars and all 3 boxes failed within 2 years. I have seen 3 cars come into the shop with boxes under the hood and problems as well. The past few years I have installed them inside (in the glove box works slick or under the dash) and have seen zero problems. Makes sense when you figure they are open to far more elements under the hood... wind, dust, heat, water... etc. Actually I still prefer running HEI for street cars that don't go over 5000 rpms often or that don't run a power adder. I mean really you either have spark and it ignites or ya don't. Re: [Chevelle-list] MSD box location
mickey It says in the directions NOT to mount it in the glove box so I dispelled that option Thanks to all who responded John 66
Re: [Chevelle-list] MSD box location
if you remove the cardboard box or provide a means for ait flow and for it to disapate heat you should be fine. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, February 22, 2004 7:06 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] MSD box location mickey It says in the directions NOT to mount it in the glove box so I dispelled that option Thanks to all who responded John 66

Re: [Chevelle-list] MSD box location
John, I mounted my MSD 6AL box under the drivers seat. I had to lengthen the wiring but it works fine. It just clears the bottom of the bucket seat.My reason for doing this was to keep a stock look under the hood. Bob Wow, thats inventive. Did the noise bother you? Did you feel the heat at all from it? John 66
Re: [Chevelle-list] MSD box location
John, You can sometimes hear a slight buzz from the MSD box at idle, butthe rest of the time the exhaust overpowersany sound from the MSD. The heat was not an issue. I had concerns initially about the unit getting too warm under the seatand checked it frequently. It gotonly slightlywarmer than the rest of the interior. No problems in three years.
