RE: [Chevelle-List] Can't get her to fire....
Ron Make sure your distributor is turning when you crank the engine. That could explain only seeing spark on #1 cylinder. Also take a good look at the ignition coil. I'm assuming that yours is in the cap? Check *ALL* your grounds very carefully . One last thought for you. If you take a 12 volt light bulb and connect one end to the tack lead of the distributor and the other end to a good ground it should flash as long as you are cranking your engine. I use a 194 bulb mounted in a side marker base with alligator clips for connections. If you don't have that a 12 volt test light will work fine too. That will verify the full primary side of your ignition system. Re: [Chevelle-List] Can't get her to fire....
Ron, I have run in to the same kind of problems and I know how frustrating it can be. Go back to the basics. With the switch in on and start positions you should have a full 12 volts going to the HEI unit and also at coil positive. If both are good, the coil should fire. A good auto repair shop should be able to test your HEI unit. If you don't have one go get a cheap in line spark tester. That will save a lot of guessing. And good luck. That appears to be working fine. The carb is getting gas and the peep whole float bowls have the level where they are susposed to be. I'm thinking I might run down to a junk yard and pick up another hei unit and see what happens.. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Mike Holleman Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2003 6:36 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Can't get her to fire Ron, Check your fuel flow from the tank. Ron, Check your fuel flow from the tank. Any restriction? The timing light should flash on any wire.
