RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting
So the sockets fit right in to the back of the 69 dash? How were they grounded? Have any pics? J I just spent some time trying different methods. I took two metal brackets from hell and bent out the spades, then placed them in the sockets. I took another two metal brackets from hell and spread some glue (albeit not the highest adhesive but pretty damn good) on the spades and then placed them in the sockets. I let them sit for 10 minutes. I came back, placed bulbs in all four sockets. I came back in 5 minutes and found that every single one had at least some movement (1/4 of the way out). One of the glued ones had came all the way out and one of the bent ones came ½ the way out (one spade completely out). Anyone know of any aftermarket place that makes replacement sockets? I do not want to be afraid every time I take off my dash bezel that I am going to lose a bulb and have to dismantle everything. Even if the spades are glued, bent, nailed, stapled, welded, melded, etc I would still have the thought in the back of my head. I just spent a few hours putting my dash in, taking it out (getting the bulbs came out), putting it back in, taking it back out (getting the bulbs that came out) , you get the picture. I was thinking of using some contact cement on the little spade connectors that go down into the holder. I think the bulbs fall out when that thing gets loose Any ideas? Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting
JB is it did not know it was a new harness try cutting a few links out of the spring that might help or better yet try useing alittle heat like a soldering iron heat the spring up might make it weaker, i have always rebuilt my harnesses, so i have not had the same problems you are having , it sounds like a defective sockits or poorly design one , what does the manufacturer have to say about it , im sure the person that design it never had his head under a dash before,, good luck jim

RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting
I used epoxy to get them to stay together. Seemed to work fairly well. I put a drop on each spade where they fit into the socket and then a tiny bit around the rim where the metal ring sits. Yes I fully understand how pissed off you can get when it's all together and you here pop and one of the bulbs is loose in your gauge! -Original Message- From: Crazy Rusty [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 13, 2004 10:18 PM To: 'The Chevelle Mailing List' Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting I thought about that. But I don't want to mess up the socket when I need to replace a bulb (and go back into dash hookup hell). Though I may not have a choice. I do not understand why they couldn't just make them like some of the other bulbs that have solid sockets that snap in... You have to agree, if you have had to mess with them before, they are a lot more trouble then they should be. -Original Message- From: Rick Schaefer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, September 13, 2004 9:17 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; The Chevelle Mailing List Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting Try a glue gun to hold the bulb socket inplace. RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting
The part that agitates the hell out of me is the fact that the wires connecting the bulbs only allow about 1/2 inch of movement. There is not nearly enough room to move around behind the gauges to plug those things in. I spent several hours trying to get mine set up right, and ultimately gave up since it 24 hours of daylight in the summer, and I don't drive the Chevelle in the winter! Try some dielectric grease, it should help to hold them. Also, you may put a small wad of foil behind them. Sorry, I don't know the engineer, it is amazing what that framed paper on the wall makes some people think of themselves.
