During a recent speech in Caracas, President Chavez denounced the "aggressive" actions of the U.S. government against the South American country, threatening that Venezuelan oil "instead of going to the United States, could go elsewhere." Tensions between the two countries have risen after Venezuela stopped assisting the U.S. in their War against Drugs. In response, the U.S. canceled the military visas of Venezuelan military personnel, working with U.S. anti-drug agencies. Venezuela then deported U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officials. Currently, Venezuela controls the largest oil reserves in South America, making it the world's fifth largest oil producer. Current estimates say Venezuela exports almost 1.3 million barrels a day to the United States. Hello Group, IF you really want to get the attention of all politicans, advertisers who support the politicans, the controllers of the no-news medias, stop your subscription to cable and or satellite service. You can still get the same old tainted news and misleading advertising on your local channels. In fact, your local channels will be the FIRST to tell you of the effects and affects [your] shut-down has had. Politicans will have a heart attack from the loss of funds to suppot their lies to the American people. This will really bring attention to We the People's cause. Even just one month will have an amazing effect. JUST ONE MONTH! BU...it has to be done in unision; not just one-at-a-time. I tried last summer to get people organized to have a "shut-down" on December 7th, "Pearl Harbor Day" and give Bush and Folks their OTHER Peral Harbor Day. Since then I have learned that my one dismissal of Comcast had NO effect. Can you even visualize the effects and affects that half-a-million people will have by shutting down their cabel/ dish service? The news papers AND magazines will have to fall in line (like the feds make We the People do now) knowing "they" will be next. I'm talking about the most powerful tool available against politicans, etc., (the tool which "they" use against We the People now and have been for years). It is called MONEY. IF [you] can't live without Law and Order or HGTV for one month you are in sad shape mentallyBUT...in such case, select in [your] neighborhood, someone with a large house, which can accomodate several people, and all of you go there to watch ONE lousey TV set in unison and complain as to "how" badly We the People are being "run-over" by OUR government. Tim, I am very busy and paying very little attention to postings on the five lists that I alone moderate. Moderation means at yahoo groups that I have to approve messages. When I get busy or things happen, I do not have time to read them all. Tim, your message was automatically rejected because the two week time limit had passed. Let's see what has been going on, well, both my and Hopsicker's hard drive crashed on the same day. My dedicated server was maliciously attacked and all my web sites went down, our webstore is still down -- depriving us income. Plus, I am doing production work on books, packing & shipping books and other related running a business items. Also, my 87-year old mother had heart trouble while visiting my sister in Alaska. She had to be flown out and then I had to arrange in-home care for her and interface for my mom. She lives over a hundred miles away, plus my mother-in-law just had a 90th birthday party so I have been real busy. And on top of that I am getting sued by folks being bankrolled by the Special Forces Association. I do not have time, I'm sorry. I get email's all the time from folks to remind me to please get them back on the list because the 14 days has passed. I have asked for help moderating before and stopped asking years ago. Tim, you are on moderation (and only one of my lists, cia- drugs, has moderation) because 1. you are a new poster. 2. He told me he had asked Mr. Taylor that morning why he didn't vote against CAFTA as he had pledged. The talk radio host told me "Taylor said he had voted 'no'...but somebody changed it and Mr. Taylor was furious." "'I voted NO,' Mr. Taylor announced in a terse statement on Thursday, saying the House clerk's written log showed his vote" -- New York Times, July 29, 2005. I didn't even realize that there had been a controversy over Taylor's vote. Neither he nor Hayes is my representative, but it was Hayes' switched vote that garnered all the news reports around here: WASHINGTON - August 1 - Turning his back on the textile and apparel workers in North Carolinaâs 8th District, Rep. Robin Hayes (R-N.C.) dramatically reversed his previous opposition to the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) expansion of NAFTA to again become a deciding last vote that delivered CAFTAâs 217-215 passage, after being made vague promises by Republican leaders to help the U.S. textile and apparel industry. In response to the unprincipled deal-making by Hayes, Public Citizen announced today a new initiative â the CAFTA Damage Reportâ to track the fallout from Hayesâ flip-flop in terms of the negative impact of CAFTA on working families in the United States, the foreseeable failure of his âdealâ to materialize in real change and the political repercussions that Hayes is likely to suffer at the hands of angry constituents. A week before the vote, Hayes stated that he was âflat-out, completely, horizontally opposed to CAFTA,â[1] arguing that CAFTA is an extension of NAFTA that was ânot in the best interest of a core constituency I represent. Every time I drive through Kannapolis and I see those empty plants, I know there is no way I could vote for CAFTA.â[2] Hayes initially cast a ânoâ vote but then was persuaded by Republican House leaders to change his vote to a âyesâ after the House Republican leadership kept the voting open 45 minutes past the time limit. Unbelievably, this is the second time Hayes has switched his vote on a major piece of trade legislation. As constituents of North Carolinaâs 8th District know, in 2001, Hayes switched from initially casting a ânoâ vote to âyes,â making him the deciding vote that gave President Bush Fast Track trade authority, a measure he had previously (and vehemently) opposed, which was the authority under which the CAFTA NAFTA expansion was negotiated. âEven in cynical Washington political circles, no one can understand how Hayes would elect to irreversibly destroy his votersâ trust in him by again betraying the clear will of his constituents, and the obvious threat CAFTA poses to them, by doing what the Republican leadership asks of him again after all of the apologies made to constituents for his Fast Track retreat, his 2004 campaign promise to oppose CAFTA, and his vehement public opposition to CAFTA last week,â said Lori Wallach, director of Public Citizenâs Global Trade Watch. âNo one can imagine that he is so weak as to have been brow beaten into betraying his constituents again, so many assume he is retiring.â Hayes claims that he obtained a Bush administration promise to support a new Hong Kong Customs Enforcement pact, ostensibly to âtoughen textile transshipment measures.â[3] However, as Hayes himself admitted in a letter to an industry representative after the CAFTA vote, the terms of this promise have not been determined or identified.[4] In a press release, Hayes indicated that his previous concerns about textile rules in CAFTA âwere addressedâ sometime in the wee hours of the morning before his vote switch,[5]even though the CAFTA agreement had not been changed at all. Take part, do your part, get involved in ACTION to save the Akha. Correction, the man in the village jacked up by the Thai army was from England, we will have more details soon. We need any of you out there who stayed in the village and know the conditions to help us on this. If you are from England especially, we need someone to contact an MP and request that they demand the Thai Ambassador to England explain this outrageous behaviour. An Italian tourist was traveling to Hooh Yoh and took some pictures in the village and possibly at the royal project, it is quite big so kind of hard not to get a picture of it. The project took all the farm land at Hooh Yoh, a whole valley, so it is likely to end up in a picture. The army detained the Italian, took him to the village of Pah Nmm where the man from England was staying, unrelated to the first man. Both of them were photographed and the house of the host was thoroughly searched, the three army men screaming the whole time at the two Akhas. The army wrote down the passports of the two men without explanation, only "NO PHOTOS!" They wrote up a report and told them that they could not have any foreigners staying at their home, despite the fact that the tourists had done nothing illegal. This is the way in which the Thais treat the Akha. We request that you apply pressure to ANY Thais staying in your country that they should go back to Thailand. Make them feel as welcome as they make the Akha feel in their own mountains which never saw a Thai till the coming of the roads. Make complaints to the Thai Embassies in your country. Sport a sticker on you car, BOYCOTT THAI. From what we can see the official website for the Royal Project at Hooh Yoh is not on line. Apparently the Thais are feeling the heat about their behavior. Tourists visiting to the Akha supply a source of income, as compared to eco tours, trekking and tourism in general. In this case the Akhas control it. But the Thai army doesn't want them controling anything. The fastest means of this support is that you CALL and EMAIL your nearest Thai Embassy and demand the end of the Queen's Royal Project at Hooh Yoh which is a violation of human rights and a massive land grab. The Project has extended its tenacles to the land of Pah Nmm Village, Pai ah Prai village tea plantations and other village lands. Westerners in Pah Nmm yesterday said that one westerner was trucked in, forcibly removed from Hooh Yoh, for photographing this "Public" project at Hooh Yoh. Westerners in Pah Nmm were Italian and Australian, we need this posted to those country sites, Sydney, Rome. Then the Army went through the home of an Akha family, taking photos, demanding passports, yelling at the people in the house, over nothing that they had done wrong. The family was visibly shaken. We are also told that army is now camping in Pah Nmm village intermittently. The sign for Akha Peace and Justice Center is still at the village and we ask for continued support and volunteers to protect the Akha in this region. Demand an explanation from the Thai Embassy, if Thais wish to continue free movement and travel in western countries. Support the Boycott Thai - Don't Buy Thai policy.
