CCNP and CCDA... [7:42684]

2002-04-26 Thread Jeffrey W. Hall

I would like to say that I've browsed through many news and web groups, but
you guys are the top I've seen. I find myself being intimidated reading
your indepth responses.

I finished up my CCNP last week and finished my CCDA exam this morning. I
plan on sitting the CCDP exam in 2 weeks and taking the CCIE written in 2
months after a short "Army paid fun-filled trip" out east. ha ha

I feel fortunate that I am able to do this type of work for 12-14+ hours a
day and then come home and spend several more hours learning from you guys.

Thanks again and wish me luck!

RE: Need Part # for DB60 DTE to DB60 DCE back to b [7:42183]

2002-04-22 Thread Jeffrey W. Hall

I appreciate all of the info. I am wanting this info for work. I normally
would just look at Ebay, but being in the military, we have all sorts of
wierd rules about where and how we have to purchase, even if that means
passing up a great deal and having to pay more. Your hard-earned tax
dollars at work! ha ha

I have bought from symmic, and things have worked out well, too.

RE: MBA or CCIE [7:41809]

2002-04-20 Thread Jeffrey W. Hall

Ok, I've been following this thread for a while and I have a stupid
question. How is a CCIE certification comparable to an MBA? I guess I
don't understand this because I am in the military and am not exposed to the
environment where this would be relevant. It seems to me that an individual
who has an MBA is the office/sit at a desk type of person, whereas an
individual with a CCIE is neck-deep in technology and getting their hands
dirty. Am I off-base here? I sure don't want to offend anyone with my
ignorance of the subject.

I am actively persuing my CCIE certification having earned my CCNP
yesterday! I am also 5 classes away from finishing my Bachelor's degree. I
would be interested to know if I need both the MBA and the CCIE, because I
definitely plan on earning the CCIE.

Thanks, as always,

Jeff

But it's good to know that employer-sponsorship still happens. I had my MBA
classes sponsored at my previous 2 employers. I'm sure my current one will
do it too, but it just doesn't feel right to ask for it in such economy. Our
stock is OK but the environment is not very encouraging. Anyway back to my
CCIE quest for now!

Just don't get too many B-'s because the employer will pay but the school
won't let you play.:)

lots of companies have tuition reimbursement programs. you pay up front,
take the class, pass with the required grade ( in my case, my employer
required a B- ( B minus ) and receive reimbursement for the cost of the
class. books were not included.

My employer at the time was a major brokerage firm. My current employer ( a
telco ) offers a similar program.

It can take one a long time, doing it this way - night classes. We used to
call it the "ten year plan" :->

Need Part # for DB60 DTE to DB60 DCE back to back crossover [7:42053]

2002-04-19 Thread Jeffrey W. Hall

Does anyone know what the Cisco part number of the DB60 DTE to DB60 DCE back
to back crossover cable? I realize the part number may be different based
on cable length, so let's use a 6 foot cable.

Thanks in advance,

Re: What is the best HyperTerminal program for Linux? [7:41228]

2002-04-11 Thread Jeffrey W. Hall

Does anyone know of a good step by step tutorial for setting up minicom
for use to terminal into routers and switches? Pardon my ignorance,
I've done a good amount of work with linux, but I've never used any
terminal program besides HyperTerminal (don't laugh) on anything but
windows. I've been studying over the man pages, but they're about as
confusing as I've found.

TIA,

Jeff

RE: TCP/IP and DOD [7:39657]

2002-04-05 Thread Jeffrey W. Hall

What?? Those of you who insist on detracting a good conversation with
needless comments like that have to much time on your hands, Don.
Why don't you and others like you stick to the topic and not be so
tempted to provide such a short-sighted remark.

Well, if we're veering off into the realm of political commentary and
putdown, I suppose it's ok to ask whether George W. Bush could spell
TCP/IP
"all by himself".
