HSRP + ARP Problem [7:73098]
Bit of a strange one this. We have 2 7206 routers running HSRP that are support by our telecoms provider. The fast ethernet interface of each is connected into our 2950 along with a firewall. From the switch, or firewall, I can ping either of the 'real' ip addresses but not the virtual address. I have used debug arp and seen the arp request go out for the virtual address (the telco has done the same and see's the request come in) but there is no reply. If we configure a static arp entry it all works fine. Anyone ever experienced anything like this??? Does anyone know of any performance limitations relating to the use of per-packet load sharing in conjunction with CEF EIGRP? GRE Tunnel EIGRP [7:72093]
I am planning on using a GRE tunnel across a MPLS VPN in order to create an EIGRP neighbour relationship across the cloud. The VPN link will be running at 8Mbps. The routers terminating the tunnel will be a 3640 and RSM. Does anyone know if this will adversely impact the processors and/or throughput of the link. Route Metrics [7:70958]
I have a situation whereby I want to perform load balancing across 2 links. The problem is that the router which will have to perform the load balancing learns one route via EIGRP and the other from a static route. I know how to alter the administrative distance of the static route but I'm not sure on how to tweak the metric. I guess I need to either increase the metric of the static route of reduce the metric of the EIGRP route. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can't remember the exact terminology but an IGRP router is aware of a neighbors metric to a destination as well as its own metric to the same destination. The router will only consider routes to be valid if the upstream router's metric to the destination is lower than its own metric to the same destination. This prevents the problems you mentioned below. You may want to get a second opinion on this! 2511 Reverse Telnet [7:65819]
Help please! I have just bought a 2511 and am attempting to use it for reverse telnet. I have connected each of the octal cable RJ-45 cables into a console port. I initiate a reverse telnet session and can recieve data, i.e. when I power on the target router I recieve boot loader etc messages up until press return to start. The problem is I can't send anything, pressing return doesn't work. I am reseanably confident that I have entered all the right commands. Can anyone shed any light on this? Many thanks in advance. For each user who dials in using an ISDN modem we configure a dialer interface with the users name in the dialer remote-name command.
