RE: CCIE and voice. [7:52860]
At Networkers San Diego this year, during the CCIE power session, they said gave us maybe 2 pages in the hand outs covering voice on the lab. Know everything listed on the blue print for voice and you'll be fine. tim Tim Medley, CCNP+Voice, CCDP, CWNA Sr. Network Architect VoIP Group iReadyWorld -Original Message- From: Casey, Paul (6822) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, September 07, 2002 2:16 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: CCIE and voice. [7:52860] Does anyone know the level to at which voice is tested to on the routing and swithing lab exam I have purchased some fxs cards and can do so much.. But what about call manager, fxo connections, gatekeeper,.etc Or is this detailed level reseved for the voice specialisation exam The web site still only seems to state that voice technology will account for a small apart.. Just wondering of the level of detail that one needs to go into.. not asking anyone to break NDA, nor would I expect you, (I wanna do this on my own). but how much is expected of you for this aspect.. Any help appreciated Kind regards. Paul. -- Sent from my BlackBerry Wireless Handheld This E-mail is from O2. One question to ask is whether CallManager, for example, could run on any of it. Admittedly, the examinee was never asked to program the ATM switch to which the ATM interfaces were connected. OTOH, the examinee was never asked to test ATM functions that require switch programming. At least some points of reference. Speaking with the caveat that one should never wager as to what might of might not appear in the lab, I am convinced that over the next year it is likely that one will see IP phones in the Lab, and one will need to configure things such that these phones connect to a Call Manager somewhere. Lord knows there are enough of them at the Cisco facilities! It would not be too difficult for the folks at Cisco to make it possible without having to put Call Managers into the Lab itself. I think it is pretty well know that sometimes requirements include configurations as if certain things exist, whether they do or not. I think it should also be obvious that Lab scenarios are being evolved to the point where CCIE Labs can be given over remote connections ( such as a Sylvan test ceter, for example ), rather than having to physically show up in San Jose, RTP, etc. Last time I was in the Lab, I found no real reason to even look at the rack ( although I did, for various stupid and wrong perceptions ) Given the published equipment list as it stands today, ( http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/ccie/certifications/routing.html#45 ) it would be possible for there to be IP phones. However, and again checking CCO ( http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/ccie/certifications/voice_faqs.html#2 ) at present the only phones are analogue. Cisco tends to make announcements as to content changes several months in advance. Until it apears on CCO, all one has is speculation. That information should pretty much tell you how to prepare. It would not be >too difficult for the folks at Cisco to make it possible without having to >put Call Managers into the Lab itself. Then that presumably gives some bounds. At the time IP telephones are added to the equipment list, it might be reasonable to assume connectivity via the Call Manager, but not the Call Manager itself, would be part of the lab. It's probably reasonable to assume that an analog or ISDN simulator could be present now, so calls between FXS/FXO, E&M, or ISDN ports are possible. > >I think it is pretty well know that sometimes requirements include >configurations as if certain things exist, whether they do or not. > >I think it should also be obvious that Lab scenarios are being evolved to >the point where CCIE Labs can be given over remote connections ( such as a >Sylvan test ceter, for example ), rather than having to physically show up >in San Jose, RTP, etc. > >Last time I was in the Lab, I found no real reason to even look at the rack >( although I did, for various stupid and wrong perceptions ) > >Given the published equipment list as it stands today, ( >http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/ccie/certifications/routing.html#45 ) >it would be possible for there to be IP phones. Am I reading the info at the URLs correctly: If analog phones are or might be used in the CCIE labs, how would that work? The only thing I can think of is a switch that has an analog DSP with an analog phone plugged into it, or a router that has an FXS or FXO module. Is that right? Who knows, they might even change the name of CCIE R/S to CCAE (Cisco Certified AVVID Expert). Not really, but it sure looks like that cert requires more AVVID at each rev. -- TT Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=52920&t=52860 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
