[Cooker] [Bug 880] [kernel] Can't boot because of HighPoint HPT370 RAID
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=880 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-12 02:45 --- I too wonder why this is resolved. Using RC3 on a VIA KT133 with built in HPT370, I get the exact same messages upon boot as comment #1. Have tried acpi=off and ide=nodma with no success. If I boot from the floppy boot, I can at least get past the problem, but there is a stream of hde messages identical to comment #33. Once booted, hde is unavailable (RC3 resides on hda3). Please reopen this bug. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: RESOLVED creation_date: description: I just installed Mandrake 9.1 Beta 2 and after install I can't boot it. http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=880 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-01 01:37 --- I'm just wondering why this is resolved. I posted what was origionally bug#789 and it was sent here as a duplicate of this #880. The fact remains that I still can NOT install Mandrake 9.1 on my machine with a hpt374 controller even though the drives being used are connected to it as ATA133 and not RAID. If I'm still at a dead-end on even installing, I'm curious as to why this is 'resolved'. All potential fixes have surrounded acpi, but I got similar errors on a Soyo board with an embedded hpt372 which works fine with the apic turned off. I am not talking about acpi=off but the apic. Re: [Cooker] [Bug 880] [kernel] Can't boot because of HighPoint HPT370 RAID
Passing acpi=off at the install bootprompt solved this problem. No idea why. Why would one want acpi for the install? And how would one work this out other than by trial and error and experience of typical Mandrake weaknesses? Cheers, Bruno Prior Bruno Prior wrote: We just tried to install 9.1beta3 to our new server (a Gigabyte board with an HPT372 controller). We can't even get to the first stage of installation. After lilo, the system tries to load for around 5 seconds before rebooting. First drive and DVD-ROM is on the onboard controller. Second drive is on the HPT372. So the HPT372 shouldn't really matter at that stage of the installer, but something is screwing it up. Incidentally, installation of 9.0 also fails, because the system claims not to be able to find the CD-ROM drive (the one it is installing from) and asks what SCSI module we want to load. ide-scsi etc. do not help. Nor does passing ide=nodma or hdc=ide-cd. Don't know if this is related to the original bug report, but the HPT372 seems to be trouble. We also cannot get hde running with a vanilla 2.4.20 kernel on gentoo. We are in the process of trying 2.4.21-pre4-ac1, in the hope the ac patch will help. Bruno Prior

https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=880 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-01-21 17:28 --- With Iwill XP333-R, which uses the hpt372 onboard controller, I have been building a kernel and the hpt driver to use a Maxtor and Seagate as jbod (sda, sdb) on this controller. Following the kernel list infos about ac1 support for this controller, I have built a 2.4.20-ac1. As hde and hdg, these disks seem to be working well with this kernel: hdparm shows dma enabled; md5sum of isos working correctly. I have not used this extensively but the success of these rudimentary tests is in sharp contrast to the typical failure to mount with previous Mandrake kernels. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] description: I just installed Mandrake 9.1 Beta 2 and after install I can't boot it.
