MandrakeFirstTime is run BEFORE GNOME or KDE, so that is normal there is
no window manager at that time..

After that, do you have window decoration in GNOME ?

If no, check in ~/.xsession-errors for sawfish error..

Using kdm to login? Perhaps this is related to another bug I reported
earlier today. Check the path in /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc, you'll
see that it's wrong.

Interesting (and I don't mean intriguing)...

I've been using IceWM since KDE doesn't work for me.

This was the first thing I tried, and even copying the /etc/skel/* files
over mine did not work. No luck. This seems that it may have happened in
the last 3 KDE updates. GNOME has never had windows decorations though
even when I installed Beta1 from scratch.

I haven't found any KDE errors yet, but I know there is a problem with
IceWM as it seems /usr/X11R6/bin is not in the path, maybe programs fail
to run. This looks like it ought to be fixed.

Can you look at ~/.xsession-errors while there is this error message
on the screen? Do you have latest "setup" installed?

Remove your:

.Xauthority
.MCOP-random-seed
.DCOPserver_localhost
.DCOPserver_localhost_:0

in your user directory, so when you login it will re-create them again.

Then try to login again as user.

Let me know what happened.
