Re: 8.2 install report

Further stuff:

No symlinks exist for /dev/cdrom and /dev/dvd, had to create those (to
/dev/hdb in my case). Then eject command worked. Also played DVDs
successfully and at full speed with Xine (great work!!).

The volume, light and eject buttons do not work even though I installed
the daemon for it. Have to check if it is running later.

Still very annoyed it hangs in sleep mode, it didn't in 8.0... :-)
Otherwise it seems like a more solid release.

This was fixed by installing the devfsd. Maybe this package should be made

HE Airport is so easy to get working it really should be automatically setup

If I choose that I have another Ethernet card that is has detected the

setup automatically. Good.

Again, fixed by installing devfsd. Still no /dev/dvd though so Xine
complains. Fixed this by editing the ~/.xine/config file so that is uses
/dev/cdrom instead as DVD device.

Added starting of ikeyd to /etc/rc.local. Works like a charm now.

Install program should ask if you want to use Linux or Mac keycodes. What
is the way to change to Mac keycodes now?

When I close the lid or press a sleep button (in some program) and then
wake the computer up, either by opening lid or pressing a key, then the
screen is frozen (I can see this by that the clock in WindowMaker is not
ticking), and the keyboard has no effect. I can move the mouse cursor
though, but clicking has no effect. I had to do a hard reset. Known
 problem?

I've had those same pmud problems since the 8.2beta1 release. I did post
them here and there was a pmud update, it didn't fix the problem for me. The
only way i can get pmud to work on the ibook is to use one of benh's
kernels. You even get a nice little bat meter in status bar and acurate
readout for charging-useage etc. But if i use that kernel my Speed touch
modem refuses to work, which sucks. Everything eles works though, very well.

I run wmbatppc now in my WindowMaker dock which seems to work. I can't say
if the readout is accurate, but at least there is some readout that seems
correct. wmbatppc uses pmud.

You should be able to get this just by loading the apm_emu module.

This will load it whenver you want:
modprobe apm_emu

add this to your /etc/modules to make it always load:
apm_emu
