Bug#551311: Please provide debuild like functionality for sbuild
Package: sbuild Version: 0.59.1~rc1 Severity: wishlist It would be great if it were possible to build packages in a similar fashion as you would via debuild, whether it be via sbuild or some new script, perhaps one named sdebuild. What I mean is, let's say an sdebuild script is written. You would run sdebuild in the source tree of a debianized program and it will create the source packages to be run via sbuild and after a build, it could optionally run lintian, run piuparts, sign your packages, etc. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.30-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages sbuild depends on: ii adduser 3.111 add and remove users and groups ii libsbuild-perl0.59.1~rc1 Tool for building Debian binary pa ii perl 5.10.1-5 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii perl-modules 5.10.1-5 Core Perl modules Versions of packages sbuild recommends: ii debootstrap 1.0.20 Bootstrap a basic Debian system ii fakeroot 1.14 Gives a fake root environment Versions of packages sbuild suggests: pn deborphan none (no description available) ii wget 1.12-1 retrieves files from the web -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#550562: firmware-linux: redeon/R200_cp.bin, system freeze on some OpenGl functions
Hi Ben, Le 17/10/2009 02:17:21, Ben Hutchings a écrit : This seems to show a problem with the CD driver, not the graphics driver. I've seen at least one similar report. But I've borrowed a Radeon 9500 and this one doesnt trigger the problem. If I Uninstall firmware-linux, I've not the problem neither (but no dri..) This used to works perfectly... when the radeon 92xx drivers were not in a separare (now marked nonfree with 0.19) package. The kernel only supports the video parameter for built-in framebuffer drivers, and the initramfs scripts try to emulate this for modules. Oh yes, I've just remarked that Debian kernel use a module for that. As you can see, it doesn't work perfectly and this feature is about to be removed. You can set the module parameter explicitly in the modprobe configuration (options radeonfb mode_option=...). However, radeonfb will soon be obsolete as the radeon DRI driver supports KMS now. Ben. Bug#551312: Please don't blacklist Unitech barcode reader from hid (USB_DEVICE_ID_TENX_IBUDDY1)
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.30-8 Severity: normal Tags: patch -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I have a Unitech MS-180 barcode reader, which acts as a USB HID keyboard. It works perfectly with the attached patch, which just removes it from the blacklist. Note that the patch nukes both IDs, but my barcode scanner is IBUDDY1. Apparently, the vendor has released several devices with the same USB ID, and the IBUDDY this intended to block has the same ID :-( The i-Buddy would be http://www.everythingusb.com/i-buddy_13472.html and http://cuntography.com/blog/?p=17 which, despite the profane name logo, is a protocol reverse engineering. Upstream this is http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13411 but it'd be nice to have a workaround (remove the blacklist) in Debian. Bug#551300: java-common: policy mandates java?-runtime even for headless packages
brian m. carlson wrote: Package: java-common Version: 0.33 Severity: normal The Debian Java Policy, which is present in this package, states (§2.3): Programs must depend on java-virtual-machine and the needed runtime environment (java1-runtime and/or java2-runtime). (Similar text is present in §2.1 and §2.2.) This is problematic, because this pulls in a huge number of dependencies that are unneeded for packages that run headless. For openjdk-6, which is the default runtime on amd64, this involves the installation of the entirety of GTK and its associated libraries, which are not needed on machines that have neither a monitor nor an X server, such as servers. Please fix the policy so that it does not mandate the installation of a full JRE when a headless JRE would suffice. This is priority normal because it requires every Java program or library to depend on lots of code that has no place on a server. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.31-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash java-common depends on no packages. java-common recommends no packages. Package: grub Version: 0.97-59 Severity: serious --- Please enter the report below this line. --- The new grub package seems to be very unstable -- at least at my acer aspire 5630 Laptops: I see the following behaviours: - laptop reboots (just after the screen gets blank, ready to print GRUB loading - grub hangs just after telling Loading GRUB - sometimes it displays something like Corrupt End-Of-Free Marker found after some-hex-address. Next time I see that message, I will write it down to have it exactly After several tries (average 5 tries) it will eventually succeed booting. Bug#550316: Not fixed in 008-1
I just installed new version 008-1 and I can confirm that this bug is not fixed. Since gvfs depends on devicekit-disks and gnome-core and nautilus depends on gvfs, the consequence of this bug is you cannot use an IDE DVD drive with Gnome (!?), without killing (as root) devkit-disks-daemon. Perhaps this bug may be tagged with greater severity. Regards, Dionisio Martínez Soler -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#550977: Maybe related
Good Morning, the Ubuntu guys apparently noticed a similar bug. But I'm not quite sure if it is actually this bug or only a related one. I also notice crashes with the 7.6-1 packages if composing is enabled on my KDE 4.3.2 desktop, as described in Ubuntu Bug #446578: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/446578 The Ubuntu guys also prepared some patches. It would be great to have them included in the Debian packages, too. Greetings, Andreas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Actually, I find extracting module names a nice feature of Pyrex. What is broken is the directory structure of soya. Fortunately, you can easily work-around this by monkey-patching Pyrex. Bug#549626: [pkg-nvidia-devel] Bug#547248: ITP: libvdpau -- Video Decode and Presentation API for Unix
Andres Mejia wrote: One concern I have is with the trace library, libvdpau_trace.so. If this library is not going to supply any versioning, than this library should reside in a subdirectory in /usr/lib. For example, we could follow the same scheme adopted by pulseaudio, have the trace library installed in /usr/lib/vdpau-0.2/modules. As I understand it, both libvdpau_trace.so and libvdpau_$VENDOR.so (with $VENDOR = nvidia for now) are plugins, dlopen()ed from libvdpau.so.1 (and have no proper versioning like most plugins). So if the wrapper can be patched to search in a subdirectory of /usr/lib (and /usr/lib32 or /usr/lib64 where appropriate) both the trace library and the vendor implementation can be moved out of /usr/lib{,32,64} For the subdirectory something like just /usr/lib/vdpau or /usr/lib/vdpau-$PLUGINABI might be a better choice, as the interface (version number) of the vdpau wrapper might evolve while staying plugin compatible (using some kind of capability interface). Or /usr/lib/vdpau for the vendor implementation, /usr/lib/libvdpau1 for the trace library/plugin (which will always match the wrapper library because they are supplied by the same package, so no ABI issues at all involving the trace library) If the library is to be ABI compatible across different revisions, than versioning info should be added to the library instead. BTW, what about building a lib32vdpau1 package on amd64, too? This will be needed by libvdpau*-nvidia-ia32. Or are there chances to get libvdpau1 into ia32-libs(-whatever) in time? Bug#549711: [dhcp3-client] allow-hotplug in /etc/network/interfaces renders dhclient3 unkillable
Sven Joachim a écrit : On 2009-10-05 20:40 +0200, Adrien Clerc wrote: Package: dhcp3-client Version: 3.1.2p1-1 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Hi, I've noticed that since two or three weeks, my computer takes a bit longer to shutdown. After investigation, it seems that dhclient3 wasn't terminated with SIGTERM so that I have to wait until SIGKILL. I've tried to boot in single mode and kill dhclient3 with SIGTERM : it simply does nothing. After doing a lot of hacky things, I've found a kind of workaround. My network interface was declared as allow-hotplug eth1, and I replaced this line by auto eth1, and now everything works as expected. But anyway, I would have expected that dhclient3 cleanly shutdowns itself at computer halt. Can you please upgrade udev to version 146-5 and reboot? I believe this should fix the problem, see #549702 and #548863 for detailed information. Sven Sorry for the delay, but I have a good news : the udev upgrade fixed the issue. Bug#546021: Correction
Am Samstag, den 17.10.2009, 02:39 -0400 schrieb Ron Murray: Package: grub-pc Version: 1.97~beta3-1 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Looks like I should file bug reports soon after doing the research, not several weeks later. The root device is apparently chosen (incorrectly, IMHO) by a line in /etc/grub.d/00_header: prepare_grub_to_access_device `${grub_probe} --target=device \ ${GRUB_FONT_PATH}` which, of course, is the path to the fonts, not the pixmaps. Sorry for the confusion. Which is totally correct, because the GRUB root device is not the same as the Linux kernel root= parameter. It's the same in the sense that the value of root specifies the / filesystem. This is not at all incorrect. The root value gets again set right inside the menu entry in case your /boot is a different GRUB device then /usr. Either we use set root=(hd0,1) loadfont /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 or we would need to use loadfont (hd0,1)/usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 but the first one is easier to create in scripts and only that one works with the search command. I think it's the same bug as 546021 from Arthur. (Message #22 is the actual start of the bug report, he wrongly misused the original report for his bug.) If 'ls -l' or `ls (hdx,y)' in real GRUB shows the right UUID but search fails to find it then it is. To avoid it you can set GRUB_FONT=/boot/grub/unicode.pf2 in /etc/default/grub and run update-grub. Or you can even use ascii.pf2 if you don't need the full unicode set for the menu entrys. Just make sure the font is copied from /usr/share/grub/ first. -- Felix Zielcke Proud Debian Maintainer and GNU GRUB developer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#537648: (no subject)
The default setup of a FAI install server should recommend the inet daemon, not because of tftp, but because the install clients will set their clock at the very beginning of the installation. This can be done using ntp or the time service of the inetd. I recommend the useage of time instead of ntp, because it simple to set up and there's no need for a very exact clock during the installation. So, IMO openbsd-inet|inet-superserver should remain recommended. -- regards Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#551327: mount.crypt: Don't use /etc for runtime data
Package: libpam-mount Version: 1.32-1 Severity: normal Hi, /etc is a place for configuration files and not for runtime status informations like cmtab. If you need a place where you can put runtime data without using /var, mount a tmpfs in /lib/libpam-mount and put your file there. This is what init scripts do with /lib/init/rw. But as long as the contents of the file /etc/cmtab changes dynamicly, it is a violation of a must directive of FHS 2.3: |/etc : Host-specific system configuration | |Purpose | |The /etc hierarchy contains configuration files. Package: docvert-openoffice.org Version: 3.4-10 Severity: wishlist Hi, since openoffice.org 1:3.1.1-3 (and various other extension packages) the upgrade explicitely fails when a OOo is running with a debconf error instead of either running into a unopkg error (which then would still return 0!!) or running into a corrupted services.rdb. Of course, a running docvert-converter falso falls into this category (and ps ax | grep soffice.bin catches it). I am going to stop it in OOos maintainer scripts before the upgrade and start it again after it (already committed). Unfortunately /etc/init.d/docvert-converter has no status action to see whether it is running so I need to do it unconditional *and* it does not print out anything on start/stop either making people unaware of it being started/stopped in the process. Bug#409849: License still too restrictive
My previous outbreak of joy was a little premature. The edges3D license is still too restrictive, since it does not allow redistribution (the key permission for at least a non-free packaging). The upstream author of the library is Gregoire Malandain. http://www-sop.inria.fr/epidaure/personnel/malandain/malandain.html I tried to contact him, but got no response (maybe someone else has more luck). This license problem is _the_ showstopper for AFNI packaging. Otherwise the package seems to work fine, but without edges3D it is not possible to include SUMA or any skull-stripping functionality. Without this AFNI would not provide a comprehensive fMRI toolchain anymore, and IMHO that makes it close to useless to package it. Otherwise, I got lots of offer for help with the packaging (including a sanitized cmake-based buildsystem, that would replace AFNI native Makefile-jungle). However, the license issue above has to be solved first. Maybe if people would express their desire for an AFNI Debian package not just to me, but also to the AFNI authors and the edges3D author that could convince them that there actually is a problem in need of a solution... Bug#551292: Another file
It seems this bug is triggered by including iso14651_t1 in locale definition. I checked on my system and it happens even on en_GB or en_US locales where the LC_COLLATE consists only of simple include of the aforementioned file. But it doesn't happen on, for example, ja_JP locale which doesn't touch the iso file. So I assume it's all about /usr/share/i18n/locales/iso14651_t1 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Hi Jaime Sorry for the late reply. Yes, Classic update is different (and inferior); though we will probably not fix it in the 3.4.1 series. We have already fixed it in the 3.5.1 uploaded to Ubuntu earlier this week. Also, too bad the dependencies of iceweasel-scrapbook aren't tighter. Would it be possible to use version declarations from the extension's install.rdf to automatically provide an upper version number limit in the package dependency on iceweasel? You need to bump the version in install.rdf build than test. Normally a patch is cleaner than bumping version in install.rdf but i do both. Bug#513382: bug against mysql package for a non-autostarting mysqld
On Saturday 17 October 2009 14:16:21 Jon Dowland wrote: It has been stated several times in this bug that the mysql maintainers have been approached about providing a package containing mysqld that does not auto-start a global mysqld instance. Yup. I have discussed it quite some time ago with Norbert (nobse) and he said that he welcomed patches but didn't have time to do it himself. I unfortunately haven't had time either. Ubuntu has done the split, so if someone is having time on their hands, trying to figure out if it is usable for debian and how it is usable would be a good thing. It is somewhere on my todolist, but it is unfortunately neverending. However I can find no such bug in the BTS filed against src:mysql-dfsg-5.1, archived or otherwise. If such a big exists then this one should be set to be blocked by the other; otherwise, such a bug should have been filed ages ago. A bug exists. I currently can't find it, but I know it does. Note that mysql have switched source package names a couple of times. /Sune -- How to close the e-mail address? Bug#534724: Enhanced kernel rules
On Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 07:23:13PM +0200, Michael Tautschnig wrote: Attached please find a patch to extend kernel logcheck rules. You might want do check the changes line by line as some of them could still be specific for my systems. Thanks for your contribution. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone has the time to go through these 599 rules and sort out that big pile. From a quick glance, most of these appear to be bootup messages, which are willingly not included in logcheck-database. I'm sure there are some good rules in there, but it's just not practical to hunt them down. In the future, would you be willing to resubmit some of them in piecemeal reports? That would be much appreciated. Thanks! Sorry for the late reply. I'm absolutely willing to submit small and useful bits, I'm just a bit unclear about the policy. If bootup messages are intentionally excluded, then some of the current rules should in fact be dropped as well. Does bootup also mean that hot-pluggable stuff should be excluded? These messages will be the same in non-bootup contexts... Thanks, Michael pgphPJi7RgJIF.pgp Description: PGP signature

A user in #debian reported that: http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/ch01s02.html.en contains a link to Kernel Traffic which actually goes to a website having nothing to do with kernels. The installation guides for other architectures have the same 'broken' link. I wasn't sure if I should append this bug or create a new one, but the title of this one seemed mostly appropriate.
