Bug#646902: apt-dater fails silently on refreshing host
Hi Freitag, 11. November 2011 you wrote: Hi, On 10/29/2011 10:34 PM, Markus Raab wrote: Hello! Am Freitag, 28. Oktober 2011 schrieb Patrick Matthäi: Am 28.10.2011 12:17, schrieb Markus Raab: Yes that step works perfectly, but the host would still be in section Unknown if sudoers does not contain: user ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/aptitude update, /usr/bin/apt-get update Nevertheless manual verification what the problem is does not help beginners which try apt-dater the first time - they are left without any clue what was wrong or how it should be if it fails completely silent. I absolutely agree that it should be some more verbose. There was a change off the output protocol of apt-dater-host which adds a diagnostic line (ADPERR) by apt-dater-host. Sadly, the CUI does not show up this line, yet. If the connection fails completely (e.g. login with password) it also prints nothing. best regards Markus That is the reason why you should call after a sucessful connect apt-dater-host status :) Then you will see, if it works Thats not entirely true and that is exactly the problem ;) With the manual apt-dater-host status step you cannot see: 1.) that ssh login with password is actually not supported in apt-dater 2.) that the sudoers line given before is missing and the refresh will actually fail To explain 2.) more detailled: I have a host that does *not* contain the line user ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/aptitude update, /usr/bin/apt-get update apt-dater-host status will output: ADPROTO: 0.5 LSBREL: Debian|6.0.3|squeeze pcilib: Cannot open /proc/bus/pci lspci: Cannot find any working access method. VIRT: Physical UNAME: Linux|x86_64 FORBID: 0 ... STATUS: cpio|2.11-4|i KERNELINFO: 0 2.6.32-5-vserver-amd64 How do I see with that information that updating the host will fail? Even when I run apt-dater-host refresh it runs through without any problems: ADPROTO: 0.5 Hit http://security.debian.org squeeze/updates Release.gpg ... and then output as above. But when I press g in apt-dater the host will be moved to Unknown. When I add user ALL=NOPASSWD:/usr/bin/aptitude update, /usr/bin/apt-get update to sudoers, it will work as expected: The host is shows in Up to date after I press g. Is this the behaviour as it should be? 'apt-dater-host refresh' has to update the package list which requires root privileges on apt-get hosts. The ADPERR line should give the correct error source (although it is not showed at the CUI, yet). The output (without correct sudoers present) is: --- ADPROTO: 0.5 sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified ADPERR: Failed to execute 'sudo aptitude update' (256). --- Is this sudo line ok for that protocol? To show the 'Failed to execute 'sudo aptitude update' (256).' in the CUI would help a lot I guess. I additionally noticed now that VIRT: Physical is not correct, it seems unable to detect vserver properly. Shall I open a bug report for that too? Yes, please open a bug. It might be helpful if you supply the content of /proc/cpuinfo and the output of dmidecode along with the opening. Ok, I found out that apt-dater-host uses imvirt internally which seems to have no support for vserver at all. cpuinfo gives no clue (it just says what it tells on the physical server too) and dmidecode just outputs: # dmidecode 2.9 /dev/mem: No such file or directory So I do not see an obvious way to support it. It would be just an low-priority feature request of an software which likely will be obsolete/removed next major debian release. So better get this apt-dater bug, which is much more annoying, fixed ;) best regards Markus -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#648604: users are not logged in
Package: lightdm Version: 1.0.6-1 Severity: critical Hi! I have found that when you log into lightdm my user is not shown as logged in, wtm doesn't have a trace about it according to last and neither w or pinky show it as logged in. This is a serious problem as there are scripts that rely on this data to be accurate to protect the system, for example the lid scripts from acpi should trigger xscreensaver to protect the system and they don't as they rely on pinky showing the user, which as I say doesn't atm. I have seen #639988 talking about a dependency on accountsservice and I said, no bug, my fault, I'm missing accountsservice, but the fact is that I have it installed and even with it installed I'm not getting this data. My system gnomity tends to zero, so if any of this stuff relys on any gnome stuff (if like it's said on #639988 accountsservice is too gnomish this may be the case) I may be missing that part. However it is, I really think that lightdm should depend, not suggest or recommend any needed package for it to be able to mark the users as logged into the machine in order for other parts of Debian not to break because of this lack of information. If you need any other info on my setup just ask for it. Bug#648016: Some analysis
reassign 648016 gcc-4.6 found 648016 4.6.2-4 thanks This bug really is in gcc-4.6, because it is currently the default sid gcc and it is used to (mis)compile src/build/genrecog.c during gcc-avr build, which later crashes. I'm fairly certain that this is gcc problem, because if the binary is compiled with -O0, the problem goes away. All debugging output below was obtained on a sparc machine running up-to-date sid, invoking build/genrecog under gdb with a single argument of '../../src/gcc/config/avr/avr.md'. Tracing the execution is somewhat tricky, since failure happens within write_tree(), and most of the functions write_tree() calls (write_tree_1, write_switch, write_node, write_action, etc) are optimized out. The output generated by build/genrecog ../../src/gcc/config/avr/avr.md is the same as the one produced on an amd64 system until we hit the following code in genrecog.c/write_switch(): else if (type == DT_mode || type == DT_veclen || type == DT_elt_zero_int || type == DT_elt_one_int || type == DT_elt_zero_wide_safe) { const char *indent = ; /* We cast switch parameter to integer, so we must ensure that the value fits. */ if (type == DT_elt_zero_wide_safe) { indent = ; printf( if ((int) XWINT (x%d, 0) == XWINT (x%d, 0))\n, depth, depth); } printf (%s switch (, indent); switch (type) { case DT_mode: printf (GET_MODE (x%d), depth); break; case DT_veclen: printf (XVECLEN (x%d, 0), depth); break; case DT_elt_zero_int: printf (XINT (x%d, 0), depth); break; case DT_elt_one_int: printf (XINT (x%d, 1), depth); break; case DT_elt_zero_wide_safe: /* Convert result of XWINT to int for portability since some C compilers won't do it and some will. */ printf ((int) XWINT (x%d, 0), depth); break; default: gcc_unreachable (); } The problem appears after executing the printf (%s switch (, indent); statetement. It looks like compiler generates a number of small stubs within write_tree() for calling printf with all possible format statements. So, instead of returning to the correct location where the stub was invoked in write_switch(), we fall through to 0x00013e74, and start executing the next stub, which invokes printf with a format statement at 0x1ebe8 (== 0x1e800 | 0x3e8): (gdb) printf %s\n, (char *) 0x1ebe8 %sreturn gen_split_%d (insn, operands); (gdb) This is completely unrelated code, normally invoked by write_action(), line 2182. Once it's done, we jump back to completely wrong location at 0x00013e8c, eventually causing a crash. Bug#645594: This is not a bug, it's a feature!
According to Alexis, the original reporter, flite actually used to say exactly only for 0, but I can't find a trace of that, Alexis? Not quite; I said that, by examining the code, it looked as if there had been (at some earlier time) a different method of working out if rhe word exactly should be used. But from bodrato's explanation regarding seconds, I see that I was interpolating the history of the code's development incorrectly. Sorry for any confusion. So I change my bug report from a bug report to a change request. It seems to me that bodrato's argument for not changing the code depends on whether one thinks that seconds are important or not. If seconds are important then maybe flite should be telling us what they are! And if seconds are not important then the code should be changed so that 4 minutes past is not 5 minutes past. is? That behavior would mean that it is exactly half past four during two whole minutes, is that expected? Of course, when one has *developed* the code then its behaviour seems logical and intuitive, but to the average *user* exactly 5 past at 4 minutes past cannot be expected or logical or intuitive. If bodrato still thinks then code should not be changed, then please feel free to close my bug report; it's not a big issue, and in all other respects I'm very impressed with flite. Thanks. Your approach is probably safer as it makes sure nobody else uses them. You might want to stick in a comment pointing to the Debian bug in the patched versions, though, so that anybody reading through the code in the binary package is aware that we're patching it. Yeah, good point. A note about this on the upstream list would also be appropriate IMO. The discussion there didn't really get far but I think other distributions are hitting this too. A quick look at http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/releases/16/Fedora/source/SRPMS/mod_perl-2.0.5-5.fc16.src.rpm suggests that they aren't patching for this issue; and having spun up a FC16 VM, the reason becomes clear; they aren't compiling with -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64. -- Dominic Hargreaves | http://www.larted.org.uk/~dom/ PGP key 5178E2A5 from the.earth.li (keyserver, web, email) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I've tried removing the patches involved with -6 forward, but I must have done it badly because now the patches from the beginning through -5 don't apply cleanly. One possible solution I see would be to upload r8168 to sid (or experimental) and add a severity=serious bug r8168 should not enter testing - let's fix r8169 in the kernel instead to prevent migration. Documentation should include detailed instructions how to properly report bugs for the in-kernel r8169 if it does not work (but r8168 does). Do I see it correctly that this driver is to be classified as non-free? The source code says GPL2+, but 50% of the source lines is something like mdio_write(tp, 0x1E, 0x0078); making this look very 'blobby'. Bug#648474: notification-daemon holds up gnome3-fallback start sequence
Hi, Am Sonntag, den 13.11.2011, 00:45 +0100 schrieb Michael Biebl: On 13.11.2011 00:02, Joachim Breitner wrote: Hi, I debugged this some more, the reason is that the notification-daemon is both autostarted by /etc/xdg/autostart/notification-daeomon.desktop (from the notification-daemon package) and by /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-fallback.desktop. Can you start the fallback session with --debug and attach ~/.xsession-errors. uh, this is weird. I spend almost two hours yesterday debugging the problem, and I was sure that before I remove the autostart file, logging into a gnome-fallback session wihh a blank homedirectory would cause the session to take too long and then gnome-session would display a message that it could not bring up the session and one needs to log out. (That window can be closed using Alt-F4 and the session still works, but it also indicated that gnome-session failed to start a required component). I first tried to hack libegg session management support into notification-daemon, but that did not seem to be the problem. But now I tried to reproduce it and utterly failed: After apt-get --reinstall install notification-daemon and starting again with a blank home directory, the fallback mode cam up just fine. I guess this needs to be tagged moreinfo for now. I’ll keep an eye on it, though. Greetings, Joachim PS: One reason could be: I think I once manually created a /etc/xdg/autostart/notification-daemon.desktop file, before it was added to the package. Maybe for some reason gnome-session did not detect that it was talking about the same service that is mentioned in the session file, and thus tried to start it twice. But from the shell history I see that it had the same name, and there is no identifier inside the .desktop file. -- Joachim nomeata Breitner Debian Developer nome...@debian.org | ICQ# 74513189 | GPG-Keyid: 4743206C JID: nome...@joachim-breitner.de | http://people.debian.org/~nomeata signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#617613: FreeCAD not in Testing

I think the bug is still unfixed and still serious, unfortunately. The bug filed on March, but freecad was removed from testing on May because of FTBFS's (I think). Yes, but I think freecad should not be released in a stable version (again) with this serious issue unsolved. I still think that the proper solution to this bug is persuading Open CASCADE S.A.S. to re-license Open CASCADE Technology under GPLv2-compatible terms. I have been pestering them since April 2009: I am trying to persuade them to re-license under the GNU LGPL v2.1; they always say that a decision is pending, that their legal department is working on the issue, and so forth, but no news comes out... :-( If nobody helps me, I am afraid that they will never make up their minds. :-( So once again, please join me in this persuasion effort! Please get in touch with Open CASCADE S.A.S. and persuade them to switch to the GNU LGPL v2.1 !!! Thanks for any help you can provide. Now FTBFS's are fixed on all platforms, but freecad cannot return back to testing. Anyway, this issue cannot be resolved without uploading OCE [1] into the Debian. Thanks [1] http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=debian-science/packages/oce.git;a=summary What's this? Do I understand correctly that it's a fork of OpenCASCADE? Since it is a derivative work of the official OpenCASCADE, it's under the same DFSG-free weak-copyleft, but GPL-incompatible, license (as confirmed by the debian/copyright file). How can this fork solve any license compatibility issues between FreeCAD and OpenCASCADE? Bug#648616: gitosis: breaks post-update hook during upgrade lenny - squeeze
Package: gitosis Version: 0.2+20090917-11 Severity: important Tags: security After upgrading a system from lenny to squeeze the post-update hook is a dangling symbolic link: # readlink ~gitosis/repositories/gitosis-admin.git/hooks/post-update /usr/share/python-support/gitosis/gitosis-0.2-py2.5.egg/gitosis/templates/admin/hooks/post-update # And the latter file of course does no longer exist. The bad part about this is that revoking permission via gitosis.conf does not have any effect anymore and this goes without any visible warning message in syslog whatsoever. (This is what makes me add the security tag. If the security team feels different, I ask them to remove the tag.) The intended link target seems to be /usr/share/pyshared/gitosis/templates/admin/hooks/post-update now. Given that filename has not been that constant in the past, but its contents have, I would suggest to copy it rather than link it. Bug#648361: uninstallable on kfreebsd-amd64

Bug#648626: GNOME 3's Metacity makes OpenGL applications unstable
Package: metacity Version: 2.34.1-2 Severity: important Hello, With the delivery of GNOME 3 into Testing, Metacity was upgraded from version 2.30.1-3 to version 2.34.1-2. Since then, I'm experiencing stability issue when running OpenGL-intensive applications (e.g. ioQuake3-based applications or WebGL Conformance Test Suite https://cvs.khronos.org/svn/repos/registry/trunk/public/webgl/sdk/tests/webgl-conformance-tests.html): application runs fine for 10-20 sec. and then seems to lock up. Switching to a text console shows multiple instances of error messages like: [drm:radeon_ib_schedule] *ERROR* radeon: couldn't schedule IB(11) [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to schedule IB! Stopping and restarting X didn't help: the display is then garbaged, and switching back again to the text console reports the same error messages. This is with current Metacity 2.34.1-2 when running GNOME 3 in fallback mode (I can't try GnomeShell at this time because of an udev issue). I'm pretty sure this has to deal with some Metacity processing now performed by the GPU, whereas 2.30.1-3 was relying upon CPU. Indeed, I had no problem with Metacity 2.30.1-3 that was previously in Testing. However, I was experiencing the same kind of problem when switching the window manager from Metacity to Mutter in the GNOME 2 era, and IIRC, Mutter was heavily relying upon the GPU. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: ia64 Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-2-mckinley (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages metacity depends on: ii gnome-icon-theme 3.2.1.2-1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.2.0-2 ii libc6.1 2.13-21 ii libcairo2 1.10.2-6.1 ii libcanberra-gtk0 0.28-3 ii libcanberra0 0.28-3 ii libgconf2-4 2.32.4-1 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-02.24.0-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.28.8-1 ii libgnome2-common 2.32.1-2 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.7-1 ii libgtop2-72.28.4-1 ii libice6 2:1.0.7-2 ii libmetacity-private0a 1:2.34.1-2 ii libpango1.0-0 1.29.4-2 ii libsm62:1.2.0-2 ii libstartup-notification0 0.12-1 ii libunwind70.99-0.3 ii libx11-6 2:1.4.4-2 ii libxcomposite11:0.4.3-2 ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.12-1 ii libxdamage1 1:1.1.3-2 ii libxext6 2:1.3.0-3 ii libxfixes31:5.0-4 ii libxinerama1 2:1.1.1-3 ii libxrandr22:1.3.2-2 ii libxrender1 1:0.9.6-2 ii metacity-common 1:2.34.1-2 ii zenity3.2.0-1 Versions of packages metacity recommends: ii gnome-session-fallback [x-session-manager] 3.0.2-3 Versions of packages metacity suggests: ii gnome-control-center 1:3.0.2-3 ii gnome-themes 2.30.2-1 ii xdg-user-dirs 0.14-1 -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I just revived my old ITP http://bugs.debian.org/642198 and tried to put my things in a git repository: Only git://git.debian.org/~anbe-guest/r8168.git seems to work so far. @Ben: I still think this driver should be added as alternative driver to the archive, until r8169 will do its job for the promoted PCIIDs correctly. I do not agree. The package description and README should state, that it is an alternate driver which should be used, if r8169 does not work. It SHOULD enter wheezy as alternative, if r8169 is still buggy. What should be handled by upstream and what should be fixed is outside of this discussion and I am still available to sponsor the upload :) But btw isn't http://code.google.com/p/r8168/ the better homepage for it? Bug#648627: post-dialog selection changes influence which pages are saved
Package: gscan2pdf Version: 1.0.0-1 Severity: normal After selecting a few pages and hitting save, a dialog box opens, and hitting save there again opens the file dialog box. If I now go back to the scan window and change the selection of pages before saving the file to disk, then the newly selected pages are saved, not those selected when I chose save the selected pages in the first dialog box. This is potentially confusing and might yield data loss. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_NZ, LC_CTYPE=en_NZ.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gscan2pdf depends on: ii imagemagick 8:6.6.9.7-5+b1 ii libconfig-general-perl 2.50-1 ii libgoo-canvas-perl 0.06-1+b1 ii libgtk2-ex-simple-list-perl 0.50-2 ii libgtk2-imageview-perl 0.05-1+b1 ii libhtml-parser-perl 3.69-1 ii liblocale-gettext-perl 1.05-7 ii liblog-log4perl-perl 1.29-1 ii libpdf-api2-perl 2.019-1 ii libproc-processtable-perl0.45-3 ii libreadonly-perl 1.03-3 ii librsvg2-common 2.34.1-3 ii libsane-perl 0.03-1+b1 ii libset-intspan-perl 1.16-1 ii libtiff-tools3.9.5-2 ii perlmagick 8:6.6.9.7-5+b1 ii sane-utils 1.0.22-6 Versions of packages gscan2pdf recommends: ii cuneiform none ii djvulibre-bin 3.5.24-9 ii gocr 0.48-1 ii libgtk2-ex-podviewer-perl none ii sane 1.0.14-9 ii tesseract-ocr 2.04-2.1 ii unpaper0.3-1 ii xdg-utils 1.1.0~rc1-2 gscan2pdf suggests no packages. -- debconf-show failed -- .''`. martin f. krafft madduck@d.o Related projects: : :' : proud Debian developer http://debiansystem.info `. `'` http://people.debian.org/~madduckhttp://vcs-pkg.org `- Debian - when you have better things to do than fixing systems digital_signature_gpg.asc Description: Digital signature (see http://martin-krafft.net/gpg/sig-policy/999bbcc4/current)
