[Bug 132349] Re: external usb disks no longer mount in gutsy

2007-11-02 Thread Suchawato
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 134712 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134712

Hi.
I'm having similar problems.
After installing Gutsy,
My 5'th Gen iPod video will not mount at all.
And, I am having a problem with my LaCie external Hard Drive.
At first, I could not read or write to it as Gutsy annoyingly made it a Root
only permission by default. This was really irritating, but not unfixable.
Then, after I changed the permissions so that all users could
read/write/delete/change files, it seemed to work fine.
Then, the other day when I tried to copy my school assignment to the school
folder on my LaCie, it (Gutsy) would not let me. "Access Denied; you don't have
permissions to write to this folder". When I used
Code:

gksudo nautilus

to try to re-change the permissions as Root, I got; "The Owner Could Not Be
Changed; Couldn't change the owner of "LaCie" because it is on a read-only
disk".
There is no switch or button on the LaCie, that makes it "read only".
It's a USB external drive. There would be no point in making it "read only"
It Isn't read only.
I don't care what Gutsy thinks.
I can access it fine on the Macs at school.
So at the moment, I am unable to use it on this computer.

[Bug 138001] Re: [gutsy] slider doesnt work properly (the slider isnt released when the mouse click is released)

2007-11-02 Thread Matt Austin
If there is an upstream fix, how do we go about getting this update into
the repositories?

I'm happy to help out, as this is a small but annoying problem - I just
don't have a clue where to start - I'm a complete newbie at compiling /
patching.

[Bug 139468] Re: [gutsy] Totem fullscreen changes monitor refresh rate

2007-11-02 Thread jeb3518
I can also confirm this bug. I have had this EXACT same problem
(switching to 60hz) with BOTH gstreamer and xine versions of Totem. I
am currently using Totem 2.20.0, with the latest gstreamer 0.10.14, and
the nvidia Ubuntu restricted driver (with the latest Compiz enabled). I
didn't notice this bug until I started running Gusty.

[Bug 159670] [Gutsy] Screensaver preview remains in one position and on top of all windows

2007-11-02 Thread BigBoy_PDB
Public bug reported:

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz
Graphic card: RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO]
Motherboard: ASUS P4P800SE

When gnome-screensaver-preferences is opened, a frozen version of the
screensaver preview appears in the new position, but the animated
preview remains in the previous position (and cannot be moved
elsewhere). Also, the preview remains on top of all of the windows. In
other words, if another window is selected, the screensaver preview
window will be below it, but the screensaver preview will appear on top
of the window.

[Bug 159669] [Gutsy] Crash clicking on Gmail IMAP sent item with attachment

2007-11-02 Thread Arthur Penn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I connected Evolution to Gmail via IMAP, and the folders are
synchronizing properly. If I have an email with an attachment in the
[Gmail]/All Mail folder, I can click on it without issue and view the
mail and attachment. However, if I click on the _same_ email with an
attachment in the Gmail/Sent Mail folder, Evolution crashes. Command
line output simply says "segmentation fault."

[Bug 132279] Re: Usability: 'Cannot mount volume' details are not selectable

2007-11-02 Thread OnmykneesforJesus
Hmmm this particular issue really shits me

I like the dumb arse "Homer Simpson" approach

"Light Bulb ON - Light Bulb OFF"

"Light Bulb ON - Light Bulb OFF"

"Light Bulb ON - Light Bulb OFF"

"Light Bulb ON - Light Bulb OFF"

And while I WISH and DESIRE to be able to program all this neato stuff into
code so that every one can use it, for the time being I am only able to whine
about this issue.

It shits me how sometimes the drive or USB card readers DO just work and
other times they refuse to mount... or work when mounted etc...

So about the only thing I can do for now is winge at other people -
O boo hoo hoo it's fucked... it doesn't work... YOU fix it and make
it work for me... I can't cope, it's all too hard... Oh woe is me"

If I could and knew how, I'd love to write up the coding to so that ALL
USB drives - be they cards from my camera or my Winslows USB backup
drive, would just "plug and work"

So rather than just whine and expect everyone else to do it for me...
I'd like to be a contributor too..

If some one would like to teach me how to program for Ubuntu Linux, I'd
be happy to start working on it...

[Bug 34947] Re: Volume Control slider doesn't update

2007-11-02 Thread dailyglen
I have a similar problem in Gutsy (not in Feisty) to Kevin. When I
adjust the volume with the keyboard the volume adjustment is erratic (it
might go up or down, turn off the left channel, etc). Sometime
adjusting the volume with the applet is better but if I'm using Totem
while adjusting it does weird things. I have an external usb sound card
(Trends Audio UD-10) and I did some changes to get it to be recognized
(I disabled my onboard sound card in the BIOS so the usb card is the
first one).:

[Bug 12154] Re: Nautilus should have a superuser mode

2007-11-02 Thread Dirk Palowitch
Agreed.

Nautilus should have a supermode that doesn't require you to go to
terminal and type in gksudo nautilus. When doing something that requires
permission, it should just ask you for password and allow you to
continue.

Using Nautilus in superuser mode is used too often - even by newbies -
to not do this. How many postings have you seen in the forum where
someone doesn't know how to use Nautilus in superuser mode? Too many...

This is a simple change/fix/upgrade and no-brainer...

Not crazy about 'Wladston's' text for the box...

Should be more like:

"Enter Your Password to Perform Administrative Task(s)"

Copied straight from another program that requires password.

[Bug 159658] Unable to copy region encoded DVDs to iso

Have attempted to create iso files of several region 1 encoded DVDs

copy of a small (< 100 MB) file. I have tried with two DVD drives, with

[Bug 61479] Re: no dialog to make panel fullwidth on Twinview or Xinerama

2007-11-02 Thread Eythian
@aglet: It does that by default, however you have to have X starting
with two monitors attached, and Twinview enabled in xorg.conf. If you
don't do this, then gnome never realises that you have two screens, and
puts the panels across both of them. It's a bit of a pain to set up, but
once it's working you can switch layout freely, and the panels are
always on one monitor only.

[Bug 159621] multihead bug: gnome-screensaver fails to detect keyboard, mouse activity on screens :0.1, :0.2

2007-11-02 Thread GiuseppeVerde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I have a 3-screen workstation setup, with screens :0.0, :0.1, and :0.2.
gnome-screensaver fails to detect activity on screens :0.1 and :0.2,
although activity on :0.0 is properly noticed. "Activity" is defined
here as keyboard and mouse button pushing and mouse motion. After the 2
minutes gnome-screensaver is set to are up, keyboard input is grabbed
for a split second. I believe this is while it activates the fading to
screensaver. The keyboard input is then noticed and keyboard input
comes back after a moment. Mouse motion is not noticed at all, nor are
mouse button pushes. This problem was also present in feisty.

I have verified that this is a gnome-screensaver bug instead of an X
server inactivity problem, as disabling X screensaver works properly
(i.e. switching to black ONLY happens when mouse and keyboard are
inactive). I have a guess as to why this occurs, as it looks like
gnome-screensaver watches all keyboard and mouse and window activity
instead of asking the X server about inactivity as it (IMHO should).

This bug is terribly annoying as I must either turn off the screensaver
(and leave my workstation unlocked) or else put up with a second or two
of suspended keyboard input every fading cycle (there have been 3 or so
while I've been typing this bug report).

[Bug 159619] Multihead regression: gnome-terminal gets $DISPLAY confused sometimes

2007-11-02 Thread GiuseppeVerde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I have 3 screens on my desktop: :0.0, :0.1, and :0.2. When I initially
launch gnome-terminal from the launcher on the top gnome-panel, gnome-
terminal pops up and $DISPLAY is properly set. However, after switching
around on my (broken; see bug 159615) workspace switcher using
CTRL+ALT+RIGHTARROW, $DISPLAY becomes set to :0.0. I'm not sure exactly
when it happens. Launching urxvt from a launcher on the Panel sets
$DISPLAY properly. This may be related to the breakage described in bug
159615. This worked properly in Feisty.

[Bug 151544] Re: [Gutsy] GNOME takes too much time to load during system boot

2007-11-02 Thread Dan
Same problem here, HP Compaq NX7400 laptop. At least 30 secs between login and
usable desktop. This is new, in Feisty this prob didn't exist. Interestingly, I
don't use 64 bit, since the CPU isn't capable of this. So I guess the cause of
the prob is something different.
Looking at dmesg, it seems to have something to do with the network interface:

[Bug 159600] kde menu entry for 'Keyring Manager' has no icon

2007-11-02 Thread yamal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring-manager

On gutsy's kde menu, the "Keyring Manager" menu entry (found under both
'Utilities' and 'System') does not have an icon. The desktop file of
gnome-keyring-manager specifies "stock_keyring" for the icon; a file by
this name is available from the gnome-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme-
gperfection2 packages. Despite gnome-icon-theme being installed on the
system no icon appears on the menu entry in kubuntu.

[Bug 156292] Re: I get visual notifications of new mail despite requesting no notifications

2007-11-02 Thread hggdh
I will have a look as soon as possible on the plugin source, and see if
there is need for an upstream bug. Of course, anyone else with time
availble can do the same. Upstream researach can also help.

Right now I see this bug as having two options: goes to INVALID because
it ends up as not-a-bug (the plugin was active), or indeed the code
tries, and fails, to set the gconf entries above. I am keeping it open
on the chance the code is wrong.

activity on login as well.

This problem was always reported on amd systems in the forum, so I guess
that the problem is related to the 64 bits system.

[Bug 159553] "applications, places, system" not translated

2007-11-02 Thread Mark Van den Borre
Public bug reported:

When I install 7.10, most gnome menu items are localised. Translations
reside in .desktop files in /usr/share/applications.

"Applications, Places, System" main menu items in the gnome panel on the
other hand are not localised. Translations for these seem to reside in
the respective language packs. They are the most visible menu items on
the desktop.

Having the translations included would offer _a lot_ of extra comfort to
new users who have no connection to the internet when first installing.

[Bug 157396] Re: Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file

2007-11-02 Thread Carmelo Viavattene
Auto-reply.
Sorry, another correction:

I'am changed:
UUID=567ECDF67ECDCF45 /media/sda2 ntfs defaults,umask=007,gid=46 0 1
in:
UUID=567ECDF67ECDCF45 /media/sda2 ntfs-3g defaults,locale=it_IT.utf8 0 1

and all is OK.
Then, changing the permission, my problem is solved (the modify time is
preserved).

For my external USB NTFS drive, i'am not problems (the modify time is
preserved).

The bug is auto-SOLVED partially.

@ Szabolcs:
Remain a portion of the bug:
Ubuntu must set by default the /etc/fstab for existing NTFS drive, using
ntfs-3g, and without umask.
Please, can You search the correct project to solve this?

Regards,
Carmelo Viavattene

gstreamer? I believe that gstreamer's the problem, and if that's the
case, this bug is just a blind way!

[Bug 159454] Re: Using multimedia buttons in Rhythmbox 0.11.2 freezes it.

2007-11-02 Thread Robert Dzikowski
I don't know if I am going to do that because I switched to a better program -
Miro ;-)
Miro has one advantage over Rhythmbox - it can resume playback of a media file
from the point where it was stopped.
But email me when you correct all the bugs, especially
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/148646, and implement
this feature so maybe I will switch back to Rhythmbox.

[Bug 75254] Re: XDMCP not working in ipv6, gdm should be compiled with --enable-ipv6=yes

2007-11-02 Thread JanCeuleers
The trouble is that with this fix it now no longer works using IPv4.

A quick Google search suggests that it is known that GDM's XDMCP does
not simultaneously support IPv4 and IPv6. The above fix has therefore
broken IPv4 support.

Can you make available separate binary packages for IPv4 and IPv6 users?
