[Bug 395299] Re: gdm 2.26 has no graphical configuration tool

2011-07-31 Thread Jeremy Bicha
There was a small utility (see comment #42) that was released for Ubuntu
9.10. Unfortunately, if the tool is missing in Ubuntu 11.04, it can't
be fixed because new features are not added to released versions.

Ubuntu 11.10 will be using lightdm by default instead of gdm. So while
you're welcome to open a bug explaining what you'd like lightdm to do,
there's not as much interest or developer time to work on a graphical
tool for gdm.

GDM 3 was a complete rewrite by GNOME of what used to be in Ubuntu and
does not support theming. I believe LightDM allows for theming but it's
so new that themes haven't really been written (no distro ships LightDM
by default yet).

When you press CTRL+ALT+F1 to F6 in order to use the full screen text

[Bug 181244] Re: libcdio GPL/license violation

2011-07-31 Thread Schily
Let me repeat again:

The maintainer of libcdio admits that libcdio contains code from
cdda2wav and the code crom cdda2wav is available under GPLv2-only or
under CDDL but not under different licenses. Note: this is an official
statement from the cdda2wav author.

BTW: This is not the only software where the FSF intentionally ignores
legal rules. It took me 10 years and the help from Suse to finally
convince the FSF to make vcdimager a legal program.

An additional problem with libcdio is that is gets called from GNOME via
LGPL libraries. Calling GPLd code from non-GPLd code is not legally
possible. This is why the Sun legal department decided in 2006 already,
to bann libcdio from their distribution and replaced it by a new library
that is based on the original cddfa2wav code. This new solution is fully
legal and gives even better audio extraction properties.

So why is Ubunto not interested in being legal and still distributes a
non-legal solution even though alegal alternative exists?

the crash itself might have been reported, but what about the other issues.
actually it was an occasion to have apport gather a few info about my system,
so you could find out what is going on... pulse audio repeatedly crashes, and
leaves the system in a state of not being able to shutdown properly. maybe its
more of a pulse audio bug. maybe and thats rather probable its 2 bugs...
1 for pulse crashes, and one for the low volume.
shall i rename the bug? and get rid of the crash in the title?

[Bug 578380] Re: Can't print from evince

2011-07-31 Thread Adrian Johnson
Something I didn't think to ask before is to check that your printer has
PS error message printing enabled.

Looking at the Lexmark T644 menus and messages manual at:
http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/t640/eng/menumess.pdf
there is a setting under the PostScript menu for enabling the printing of
PostScript errors. It defaults to off which silently discards the print job
instead of printing a page containing the error message.

[Bug 818834] [NEW] gnome-control-center cannot change keyboard mapping when using toolbar menu

2011-07-31 Thread Susan Cragin
Public bug reported:

I have the latest oneiric, tried to change my keyboard to dvorak.
No can do from all included taskbar menu options. Not present anywhere.
There are two keyboard menu options where it should be included, but it is not.
I ended up running gnome-control-center in a terminal.
Since I was able to install dvorak by running in terminal, this is probably not
a gnome-control-center bug, but has to do with the setup in the left-hand

[Bug 818925] Re: alacarte crashed with AttributeError in join(): 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'startswith'

2011-07-31 Thread Doug McMahon
Sorry to spam - this seems to be a gnome-menus issue and not a dupe of the
above mentioned bug
gnome-menus should install both an applications.menu and a settings.menu to
/etc/xdg/menus
Then when alacarte is run they will be created in ~/.config/menus

For gnome-shell I believe it was decided to change from gnome-
applications.menu to applications.menu, you just need to include a
settings.menu

** Package changed: alacarte (Ubuntu) = gnome-menus (Ubuntu)

Which version of gnome-terminal are you using? Please use the
HelpReport This Bug feature or run ubuntu-bug nameofsoftware in the
future to have this information included with your bug report
automatically.

This is not a Ubuntu design bug or a light-themes issue so I marked that
as invalid for those projects.

[Bug 814581] Re: Gnome terminal's tabs are too long

2011-07-31 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Actually, on second thought, I don't believe this is a bug. There's
nothing wrong with tabs in a terminal taking up all available space. In
fact, it makes it easier to select the desired tab.

At the moment the css style for gnome-terminal is just a quick draft..
it can/will be improved to make it more clear but i doubt it is possible to
change width without touching gnome-terminal code.
anyway, alecutu , if you have any good mockup, propose it ;)

[Bug 818706] Re: [Oneiric] totem crashed with SIGSEGV error 4 in libgobject-2.0.so

2011-07-31 Thread Sam_
Since libtotem0-dbgsym didn't work I've installed totem-dbg, but still no
success with gdb, which says 'No symbol table info available'.
Now when Totem is greyed out, spinning in a loop, at least gdb accepts typing
(but still no ctrl+c) and Unity doesn't crash.

[Bug 818994] [NEW] Nautilus crash when writing something to disc.

2011-07-31 Thread Gogeden
Public bug reported:

I keep getting a crash when I select Write to Disc from the right
click menu. It will only happen once while using the OS until I start up
the machine via cold boot. Nautilus will restart itself so I don't need
to restart the process.

Linux brandon-OptiPlex-380 2.6.38-10-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 28
15:07:17 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

P.S. I will not send a backtrace unless I can see what exactly is
getting sent.

[Bug 301035] Re: Place an Ubuntu icon/emblem on the system partition

2011-07-31 Thread Timothy Fridey
The upstream does not say that a change to Nautilus would be a hack. It
says that the patch to gvfs should be submitted in the gvfs bug tracker.

The change needs to be made it both projects in order to have a
consitent icon. The current icon is hard coded in both projects and
therefore should be changed in both.

I have opened a new bug upstream in gvfs here:

[Bug 804330] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_file_query_info()

2011-07-31 Thread Doug McMahon
I have removed the bug I filed that was duped to here and duped to a new one ,
bug #819109
On FRESH installs I'm still unable to run a root nautilus, and get the same
crash
However if I remove deja-dup then a root nautilus opens with no issue, this has
been confirmed here on both a fresh install today and several recent live
sessions w/ the dailt iso
May want to be considered in resolution here.
