[Bug 1726516] Re: no progress bar while copying files
Reproduction and unexpected user experience details: * In a nautilus window, navigate to a folder that contains a source folder of large files (e.g., video or pictures) that is sufficient to trigger the copy progress indicator. * Create two `test1` and `test2` folders on the Desktop * In a new nautilus window, open the Desktop folder. At this point, one should see `test1` and `test2` folders on the desktop and in the Desktop folder in the nautilus window. * Copy the source data to `test1` by dragging and dropping in the nautilus window. The copy progress pie chart in the nautilus window should appear. (Okay to cancel the copy once the indicator appears.) * Repeat the copy, this time dragging the source folder to `test2` on the Desktop (*not* in the nautilus window). On my system (ubuntu 18.10), the progress indicator never appears. Many reports have focused on the inconspicuousness of the progress indicator; I concur with that observation. However, I am more perplexed by the inconsistency in behavior when copying to folders on the desktop versus copying to the Desktop folder within a nautilus window. This behavior seems inconsistent to me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726516 Title: no progress bar while copying files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1726516/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1522177] Re: nautilus sporadically very slow to start/refresh
Figured this out. Closing. Cause: I had intentionally put my home directory under mercurial, primarily to track config files. .hgignore ignored everything. The tortoisehg extension apparently ignores .hgignore. [Bug 1522177] [NEW] nautilus sporadically very slow to start/refresh
Public bug reported: System: Ubuntu 15.10, x86_64, SSD drive Nautilus is sporadically extremely slow to start up or refresh a view even when already running. The effect is bimodal: response is either nearly immediate or extremely slow. For example, "nautilus ~/" is either immediately responsive or takes ~10 seconds. The behavior is independent of directory and invocation method; for example, invoking via Unity Dash or Chrome's "show in folder" exhibits similar bimodal responsiveness. The bimodal switch seems to be related to a combination of when the directory was last read (likely a cache effect) and whether the directory had been modified (e.g., perhaps based on directory mtime). The attached script and output demonstrate the effect on my laptop. It executes "nautilus ~/" ten times, with sleep times of 0-5 seconds between each. The data suggest that the bimodal switch due to a putative cache timeout is ~5 seconds. That is, *all* invocations separated by more that 5 seconds exhibit the slow mode responsiveness. This is consistent with my experience, namely that nautilus startup is *always* slow because real-world use invocations are always more than 5 seconds apart. Access to the same directories in the terminal are never slow. I am not aware of any general filesystem sluggishness (e.g., with libreoffice, emacs, etc). ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "nautilus invocation timings" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522177/+attachment/4528782/+files/nautilus-timing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522177 Title: nautilus sporadically very slow to start/refresh To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1522177/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 887331] [NEW] file-roller cannot open filetypes with derived mimetypes (e.g. epub and ods files)
Public bug reported: Given three files A, B and C, where A is a zip file (a.zip), B is an ePub file (b.epub) and C is an ODF Spreadsheet file (c.ods) ... All files have Open With Archive Manager as a menu option in nautilus. This is likely due to the shared-mime-info database having the ePub and ODS mimetypes as sub-class-of type=application/zip/. File A will open successfully, while files B and C report Could not open 'A' / Archive type not supported. However, renaming B and C so they have a .zip extension will cause the files to be opened correctly. This is likely due to file-roller checking the filetype to load by extension, not magic. [Bug 532956] Re: evince unable to open PDF file without suffix
Fixed it. The problem was indeed related apparmor. My home directory is not in /home and I didn't tell apparmor that. While testing Lucid, my home directory is in /local/home-10.04, and /home - /local/home-10.4. /etc/passwd and HOME specify /home/reece as my home directory. The fix was to add /local/home-10.04 to /etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home.d/ubuntu using sudo dpkg-reconfigure apparmor. With that change, the file is viewable with or without the suffix and the tty warnings go away. I stand by the original observation that merely removing the suffix from the filename causes the observed error. This kind of fragility is disconcerting. This makes me wonder whether there should be a loud warning when any home directory is not listed in the apparmor config. One way to solve your problem is to set IFS to explicitly cause files to be split on newlines, as below. For an explanation of how this works, see the bash man page. Similar functionality exists in sh and zsh (and probably the csh-derived shells as well). #!/bin/bash IFS=$'\n' for file in $NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_SELECTED_FILE_PATHS do zenity --info --text $(md5sum $file) done Although quoting in shell scripts is frustrating and obtuse, the behavior you experienced is not a bug. I recommend closing as not-a-bug. The only misfeature here is that \n is technically legal in filenames; \0 would have been preferable. I can't resist. Here's a great way to impress people at dinner parties and wow chicks: #!/bin/bash IFS=$'\n' zenity --list --column md5 --column file $(find ${NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_SELECTED_FILE_PATHS} -type f -print0 | xargs -0r md5sum | perl -pe 's/^(\S+)\s\s/$1\n/') -Reece -- Nautilus-scripts don't handle blanks in filenames properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95519 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 236332] Re: No sound on e-mail atttachments
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 157281 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157281 This is almost certainly not a duplicate of bug 157281. For 157281, the cause and remedy were straightforward: the accepted mimetypes are hardcoded in /usr/lib/evolution/2.22/plugins/org-gnome-audio- inline.eplug and audio/microsoft-wav was not in that list. In this bug, the user reported totem as the problem application and there's no indication that evo or the evo audio plugin is involved. James Rose-Marie- Here are a few things to try: - save the attachment and open it with totem manually, either on the command line or through the file browser. - also try hovering over the attachment (this causes audio files to play, per pref in EditPreferencesPreview tab) - report the behavior you get with another mail agent (Thunderbird, evo, or kmail) -- No sound on e-mail atttachments https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236332 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 157281] Re: no option to play audio attachment
Pedro- I've still got this problem with Hardy alpha 6. I installed to a new partition, created a new user with a different login, initialized a new evolution setting with the evo setup wizard, and I still get a grayed- out play button. I made no user config changes of any sort, I can't imagine what's causing this. When you wrote works fine for me here, were you using the message I sent or another with an audio attachment? I'm wondering whether there's something diabolical about the format sent by our voice mail system. I'll try with Hardy beta. [Bug 157281] Re: no option to play audio attachment
No. I tried that before the OP, and I just repeated the process. I created a new account (useradd -m test), logged in, started evolution, declined to restore evo from backup, created a new IMAP account in evo, found a mail with a wav attachment, and... same thing. The attachment options looked exactly like that in my 11-24 screenshot. I've attached my package list in case that might be relevant. ** Attachment added: installed packages (dpkg-query -W) http://launchpadlibrarian.net/11032748/pkglist.gz -- no option to play audio attachment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157281 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 157281] Re: no option to play audio attachment
Sure. The attached screenshot shows that I get only a Save As... option in the pull down and that the play button is dimmed. I can see that evo knows that this is audio from the play button musical notes icon, but I don't know why it's dimmed. I've been running gnome for a long time and it could be that I've inherited no defunct mimetype/mailcap entries. Editing .gnome/application-info/user.applications and .mailcap didn't seem to help, but I'm unsure that I've gotten those to take effect or whether those files are even relevant. I'll attach a sample email next. ** Attachment added: screenshot w/wav options (i.e., only save) http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10547011/evo-wav.png -- no option to play audio attachment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157281 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 161212] links in email that contain 'amp;' don't work
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 149964 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/149964 Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Symptom: I received an email that contained a link. The link URL uses ampersands to separate URL parameters, and those ampersands were entity encoded with 'amp;'. The link in the email did not work. I happened to also receive a forwarded version of email in which the URL had been entity-decoded (presumably by the intermediary's MUA). That URL worked fine. The only difference between the URLs was entity encoding. I believe that links are supposed to be entity encoded. However, I'm unsure whether decoding is evo's responsibility or that of the browser that receives the link (Firefox 2.0.0.8 in my case). If the former, then it seems that evo doesn't correctly handle links that contain amp; . http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/, sec C.12. says: Unfortunately, many HTML user agents have silently ignored incorrect usage of the ampersand character in HTML documents - treating ampersands that do not look like entity references as literal ampersands. -Reece ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Nov 9 06:49:13 2007 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 7.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/evolution NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Package: evolution 2.12.0-0ubuntu5 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcCmdline: evolution --sm-config-prefix /evolution-EvUX2U/ --sm-client-id 117f00010100011937952130063170017 --screen 0 ProcCwd: /local/home/rkh ProcEnviron: PATH=/home/rkh/opt/i686-linux-2.6/bin:/home/rkh/opt/i686-linux-2.6/sbin:/home/rkh/opt/bin:/home/rkh/opt/sbin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: evolution Uname: Linux snafu 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- links in email that contain 'amp;' don't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/161212 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 157281] no option to play audio attachment
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I frequently receive .wav files as mime attachments. Evolution recognizes them as audio/microsoft-wav, but doesn't offer to play them. Nautilus plays them fine. I would have expected that evolution and nautilus used the same mime type application configuration. So, the unexpected behavior here is not the inability to play this audio file, but rather the apparent incongruity of evolution and nautilus file handling. My guess is that this occurs because evo is using the mime type and nautilus is using the suffix. I have no doubt that I can configure this somewhere, but my brief attempts to modify my .mailcap and .gnome /application-info/user.applications didn't work. [Bug 153675] address completion stops working
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I frequently use both To: and Cc: for emails. Autocompletion initially works fine for both fields from my two address books (local and LDAP) on the first time they receive focus, but stop working after subsequent focus. To reproduce: 1) Open new mail message. 2) In to:, enter an address. Completion works. 3) In cc:, enter another address. Completion works. 4) Refocus on to: field with alt-tab or mouse click. Completion doesn't work. 5) Refocus on cc: field. Again, completion doesn't work. Note that in 2 and 3, it's important to actually enter an address. Merely changing the focus without entering an address is not sufficient to trigger the bug. This bug is reproducible 100% of the time on my setup. I've tried with numerous addresses from both address books; the address source seems to be irrelevant. I've implied that the problem might be related to focus, but it could easily be related to some unfocus event as well, or neither. I just noticed that address completion also stops working when I switch from to: to subject: and back to to:; using the cc: field is not necessary to reproduce the symptom.
