[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1928586] Re: Desktop icons disappearing
[Expired for gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928586 Title: Desktop icons disappearing Status in gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: This is in Ubuntu 20.10 Groovy Gorilla. The bug: When connecting to USB tethering and allowing access to the phone's filesystem, Ubuntu's Desktop icons disappear. Steps to reproduce: Connect a phone to the computer via USB tethering (am a bit uneasy about mentioning which model phone it is). Switch on USB tethering and then switch off USB tethering in the phone's Mobile hotspot and tethering options. The phones screen will popup a dialog box asking "Allow access to phone data?" (which is a way to give the computer access to the phone's filesystem). You can click either "Allow" or "Deny". When either "Allow" or "Deny" is selected, the Desktop icons on Ubuntu disappear. When USB tethering is switched back on, the Desktop icons reappear. I've attached a video of the phenomenon. The video starts with USB tethering being switched on, which is why you can see the desktop icons. Then when USB tethering is switched off and "Allow" is clicked on the phone, the icons disappear and then they reappear when USB tethering is switched on again. This bug is probably related to bugs #1928206 and #1928213, which indicate that there are some inconsistencies with how the Nautilus Desktop works with respect to a Nautilus window. Thanks for your reply, my question is currently in nautilus. When I use SSH to log in to my user, the time to enter ssh is very short, but it is very slow when reading the user's home directory. However, rpi.gpio is a single GPIO library, and the device(s) it provides access to are not specific to it. Moreover, the interface used is deprecated and the /dev/gpiochip* interface is now the favoured mechanism for controlling the GPIO pins. The choice of the dialout group appears reasonable (historically it's used to provide access to the serial ports, and indeed the serial ports are part of the GPIO header on Raspberry Pi devices), but the rules should be extended to cover the modern /dev/gpiochip* devices, the related /dev/spidev* and /dev/i2c-* devices, and should be placed in a central location (i.e. ubuntu-raspi-settings) rather than in a specific GPIO library (like rpi.gpio). Related to this is LP: #1923363 which seeks to ensure equal access across images (the default user is currently granted "dialout" group membership on the pi server images, but not the desktop ones). Steps to reproduce: * Make a test installation of Kubuntu 21.04 in VirtualBox * Install all updates * Install darktable * Copy one of the images in /usr/share/wallpapers (or any other image) to your home directory and open it with darktable * Within darktable, export a copy of the image (no need to do any actual modifications) * Try to open that copy with Gwenview. Gwenview will crash. I'm attaching a crash report hinting that this is related to exiv2. Temporary workaround: If I downgrade libexiv2-27 to 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.4, Gwenview doesn't crash, so it seems the crash is related to changes in 0.27.3-3ubuntu1.5. I don't know if the underlying cause is actually some bug in exiv2, Gwenview or darktable. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1851250] Re: [snap] chromium-browser snap cannot upload files outside ~
Thanks for testing, and for the feedback Alberto. Let's say it's okay to assume that the portal is already running and accessible through the bus (i.e. the ListActivatableNames path won't be taken − there's an upstream bug to track this: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1278336). Then indeed the problem remains for xenial, bionic and focal where the XDG desktop portal isn't new enough. But it's unlikely that a new major version of the portal can be backported to these release with a regular SRU, so it looks like a "Won't Fix" status to me, what do you think? ** Changed in: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1851250 Title: [snap] chromium-browser snap cannot upload files outside ~ Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in chromium-browser source package in Xenial: New Status in chromium-browser source package in Bionic: New Status in chromium-browser source package in Focal: New Bug description: After upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10, my Chromium package was converted to a snap. Connecting chromium:removable-media as in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium- browser/+bug/1832711 does not help with anything else. Is there some way to let the file upload dialog work on any file my user account has access to? Or run this snap in --classic mode? All firefox windows on Wayland (EDIT: and X11) have a weird black protrusion from the top- left and top-right corners where yaru has curved the window corners, but something from Firefox appears to not be being clipped by the theme. I need to double check whether this appears on X11, but for now consider it Wayland only until I report back, although oSoMoN has checked their system and they don't see the behaviour (on X11). EDIT: I have now checked X11 on my system and I see the same behaviour as described above, so this is affecting BOTH Wayland AND X11 for me. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1955001] Re: File reading speed is slow
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 1955001 When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future users from hitting the same bug. I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1955001 Title: File reading speed is slow Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I created the user's home directory on the computer's mechanical hard drive, but the user's login speed is very slow, and the speed of viewing the file content in the desktop environment is slow.
