not useful information.

  If I click on a snap dash icon, nothing happens.

  I can launch without issue Chrome (deb), Synaptic, GNOME apps, etc.

  Recent updates included gnome-shell and libadwaita.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1879402] Re: [amdgpu] Proper monitor resolution/refresh rate not available

2023-03-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like the same issue as this. Next time it happens, try
running:

  grep . /sys/class/drm/*/modes

to see what modes are available from the kernel.

It's also suspicious that only Ubuntu 20.04 has been mentioned which
makes me think this might have been fixed in later releases already.
Please install 22.04 when you can:

Title:
  [amdgpu] Proper monitor resolution/refresh rate not available

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I'm currently (in Ubuntu 20.04) stuck with this low resolution: 640x480
59.94*, what I want to have is the monitor specs: 1080p and 144 Hz. This
problem appeared after plugging in my old monitor after 2 years again, it's a
philips 272G5DYEB. Things that I unsuccesfully tried to get a proper
resolution:
  -Use different GPUs from different vendors: 1050 ti and 5700 xt. Use
different drivers: propritary and open source
  -Change resolution via xrandr addmode/newmode (leads to "no signal" from
monitor)
  -Using "GRUB_GFXMODE" config in grub (no change)
  -Searching through logs, only useleful thing I found was in the Xorg log:
  [12.117] (II) AMDGPU(0): EDID for output DisplayPort-0
  [12.117] (II) AMDGPU(0): Printing probed modes for output DisplayPort-0
  [12.117] (II) AMDGPU(0): Modeline "640x480"x59.9   25.18  640 656 752 800
 480 490 492 525 -hsync -vsync (31.5 kHz e)
  -In Windows the resolution works fine
  -Both GPUs work fine with a different monitor
  I'm not sure how to proceed here nor do I know where the problem lies. I
assume this to be a bug in Ubuntu because a bunch of different GPUs/drivers
lead to this problem making it unlikely to be a driver problem.

  I experienced a crash yesterday (openbox) but tend to ignore the first
  crashes... Whilst using the machine again today a crash occurred.

  This is my primary box, so my setup is pretty consistent

  - featherpad (restored session)
  - hexchat (irc)
  - qterminal (only single tab today; usually many)
  - firefox (snap, most sites excluding google related)
  - chromium (snap, used for anything google related)
  - telegram (snap)
  - element

  I was using chromium full screen (trying to read my gmail inbox) when
  borders around windows disappeared & I lost the capacity to switch
  between windows; mouse would move, but keyboard appeared mostly dead
  (it wasn't, more I think windows weren't responding, inc. clicks with
  mouse though that's likely inconsistent; I could [not] work out how to
  describe it yesterday, but todays is almost identical).

  I switched to text terminal (ctrl+alt+f4) & explored; returned to GUI and used
  - ctrl+alt+t to open new terminal
  - openbox &

  session returned to what I expect...

  ** expected outcome

  Openbox doesn't crash

  ** actual outcome

  all windows lost borders, and i lost ability to switch between windows
  I appeared to have minimal control (not true, more a fraction of what I
expect)

  ** How to get crash

  For me,

  - I used chromium (browser)
  - make chromium full screen (ie. F11)
  - click on link/something & right-click to open in new window

  [Impact]

  When lock is enabled, the screen doesn't get blank/covered by
  lockscreen before suspending, thus on early resume the content might
  be shown.

  Video showing the bug: https://youtu.be/dDOgtK1MldI

  Reproduced on Ubuntu 2015.10, Ubuntu 2014.04

  [Test case]

  1. Work on highly secret files
  2. Close the lid of your laptop and go have a break
  3. Anyone who opens the lid of the laptop can see the secret files for a half
second before the lock screen appears

  [Possible Regression]

  Content on screen isn't painted anymore and screen stays black.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011751] Re: openbox crashed with SIGABRT

2023-03-23 Thread Dan Bungert
Thanks for the patch, Aaron. I'm able to reproduce this bug using the
firefox f11 -> open link in new window, when using the live session of
the daily-live lubuntu iso. And the attached patch does seem to help.

Overall the patch is what I was hoping to see, but I will request some
changes.

* The Maintainer field currently reads "Maintainer: Lubuntu
  Developers". I'd like you to go with the more conventional "Ubuntu
  Developers" attribution. `seeded-in-ubuntu` says that openbox is
  also used in Ubuntu Mate, and of course people can use openbox
  otherwise. The `update-maintainer` script is a convenient way to set
  this field to the value I'm suggesting (when starting from the
  original value).
* There is a sponsorship process listed on the wiki, I think
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Sponsorship/SponsorsQueue is a good
  summary. This can also help, in the future, find someone to take a
  look at the patch as doing so means your work show up in the queue.
  http://reports.qa.ubuntu.com/reports/sponsoring/
  Since I'm already looking at this I won't demand the SponsorsQueue
  bug changes but please keep that in mind for the next one.
* I forget where I saw it but I like the convention that the patch has
  a change number, like it looks like you're on v4 of the patch. So
  it might have been called glib_crash_bugfix-v4.patch or something.
  A nice convention for when these keep changing.
* One item also mentioned on the wiki is forwarding this patch to
  Debian. It is likely that the same problem applies there.
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debian/Bugs talks about this in detail.
  I will ask that you do this before upload. For this particular bug
  I'd feel comfortable sharing the patch with Debian without
  reproducing on Debian, since it's already known to be happening
  elsewhere. Just say so when forwarding.
* A tweak to the changelog would be nice. It isn't necessary to note
  the update to the maintainer field, that will be the case for most
  if not all packages with an Ubuntu delta. Also, the first segment
  about the patch is in my opinion too developer focused. I'd
  probably start with "Cherry-pick patch from A for crash issue when
  B + C happens", fill in appropriate details you think might be
  interesting for someone who might not look at the code.

So Maintainer + Debian + Changelog tweaks and I will be happy to
upload.

  Lubuntu lunar (primary box) on

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1978980] Re: [amdgpu] Wrong external screen resolution after wake up from sleep

2023-03-23 Thread Drew Andersen
Disabling DDC/CI on my monitor appears to have resolved this issue for
me.

Title:
  [amdgpu] Wrong external screen resolution after wake up from sleep

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After the Ubuntu distro upgrade (upgrade from LTS 20.04 to LTS 22.04,
  running KDE) I started experiencing a problem with external screen
  resolution after the wake up from sleep. The monitor resolution is
  small (1280x768) and doesn't respect the setting prior the sleep
  (1920x1200).

  After the wake up from sleep:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1280x768  59.94*
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

  There is an error when trying to change the setting to the highest
  resolution supported by the monitor (which is not included in the
  above list).

  ```
  > xrandr --output DisplayPort-1 --mode 1920x1200
  xrandr: cannot find mode 1920x1200
  ```

  After the turn off and turn on of the external monitor, the resolution
  is somehow added to the xrandr list:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1920x1200 59.95 +
 # a list of resolutions
 1280x768  59.94*
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

  Now it is possible to change the resolution:

  ```
  > xrandr --output DisplayPort-1 --mode 1920x1200
  # no output, the resolution was successfully changed
  ```

  After the change, the resolution is successfully changed and xrandr
  gives proper output:

  ```
  > xrandr
  HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DisplayPort-1 connected primary 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x
axis y axis) 535mm x 339mm
 1920x1200 59.95*+
 # a list of lower resolutions
  ```

  The problem is not present on fresh start. However, it is consistently
  present after the wake up from sleep.

  What can cause the problem and how may I fix it?

  Running AMD based laptop (Ryzen 7 3700U with integrated graphics), the
  external monitor is connected via USB-C. There are no problems with
  laptop screen resolution, only external monitor is affected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011751] Re: openbox crashed with SIGABRT

2023-03-23 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
Gah, ok, one more try. I failed to update the debian/copyright file last
time. This version has the updated copyright file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011751] Re: openbox crashed with SIGABRT

2023-03-23 Thread Aaron Rainbolt
After a discussion with dbungert, we're using a different patch instead.
This one is possibly upstream already, which makes it superior to the
original patch I was suggesting since it means less maintenance overhead
in the future.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2012674] [NEW] Remmina crashes with RDP sessions to Windows 10

2023-03-23 Thread Brett
Public bug reported:

I will be connected to a workstation via RDP and suddenly the remote
window will close and Remmina completely closes out. Usually, I just
restart the session and all is good. However, sometimes the session
will not reconnect. Instead, I'll get a message:

Lost connection to the RDP server

I had this happen once before and the only way I got it to work again
was after rebuilding my O/S and reinstalling a fresh copy of Remmina.
Uninstalling the package and deleting the "Remmina" folder out of my
home folder did not help.

O/S:  Linux 5.15.0-67-generic #74-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Title:
  [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  This is a metabug for all machines that are having phase inverted
  internal microphones.

  If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you
  can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even
  though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try.

  Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices"
tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel
while keeping the left channel at the volume you want.
  If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal
mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one.

  (If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through
  AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try
  changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost"
  using the Q,E,Z,C keys.)

  If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your
  issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info
  as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones
  that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a
  comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other
  bug.

  As time permits, I'll try to work on fixing them for the next Ubuntu release.
Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1879402] Re: [amdgpu] Proper monitor resolution/refresh rate not available

2023-03-23 Thread Timothy Quinn
I've been having something similar with my 20.04 system. Every day,
whenever I leave my computer on but turn off displays, one of the three
monitors is locked at 640x480 when I power my monitors back on. It also
happened when power settings turned off displays automatically, which
I've subsequently disabled.

My GPU: Radeon RX6650 XT
Driver: xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu - 19.1.0-1ubuntu0.1

I've discovered a fix by going into Display Config and disable the bad
monitor. Once I re-enable. I can the change its resolution to a proper
setting.

This is not an intermittent issue but happens like clockwork.

Should I open a different ticket for this?

  The audio sounds distorted with an echo.

  Certain actions are guaranteed to cause this, but it can also
  happening when only running instances of Firefox.

  I've been able to consistently cause this by launching Zoom from a link
within Firefox.
  This does not occur when using Chrome.

  The only way to fix the issue is to shut down all audio-related

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2012629] [NEW] Mouse interaction in 3d game does not work

2023-03-23 Thread Pep
Public bug reported:

Specifically in a game called Crusader Kings III in the Royal Court
module which is a 3d model scene, the mouse functionality that pops up
tooltips and opens further windows by mouse clicking the character
models does not work.

It has been working up until around a month, possibly 2 months, ago but
suddenly stopped working.

The reason I believe it is related to libopengl is because

1) The game offers both Vulkan and OpenGL renderers, and the broken
mouse interaction functionality works with the Vulkan renderer.

2) Today I had to use a old Ubuntu 22.04 installation which obviously
has an older libopengl, so I tried the game there, and the mouse
interaction functionality is working properly.

3) The game itself has not been updated since 1-12-2022 and the game was
definitely working properly through January 2023 and most if not all
February 2023.

Obviously there are other older libraries on Ubuntu 20.04 but given the
problem is with the game's OpenGL renderer it seems plausible that the
issue is in fact with libopengl.

I have not noticed any other odd behaviour wrt to libopengl on my
system.

What I expect to happen.
When I pass the mouse over a 3d model I expect them to be highlighted, and when
I hover over a 3d model in the game I expect tooltips to be displayed, and when
I click on the characters with the mouse I expect other windows to be opened.

What happened instead.
Nothing. The models are not highlighted as I pass over them. The tooltips are
not displayed as I hover over a model, and there is no response to attempts to
mouse click the models.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1

2023-03-23 Thread Craig W.
@BloodyIron, please see: https://github.com/christgau/wsdd

I suggest you install as it is a significantly better work-around than
constantly killing the daemon. It is intended to be released in the next
Debian (bookworm) release as a package, I do not know if Ubuntu will
also be including it in their next release. Whether Nautilus will use it
or not, I could not answer to that - I have long since switched to using
Thunar without any issues.

With regards to "If restarting it 'fixers' it, then why on earth does it
break in the first place?" I suggest you see one of the replies here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/307 and further reading
here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/-/issues/506

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2011806] Re: [lunar] Snaps don't launch due to cgroup issue

2023-03-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Sharing debug details from jamesh

When starting snap applications via the shell, log messages like the following
are produced:
Mar 21 18:07:49 MGLT-Ubuntu chromium_chromium.desktop[13099]:
/user.slice/user-1000.slice/user@1000.service/app.slice/app-gnome-chromium_chromium-13099.scope
 is not a snap cgroup

This error is triggered in snapd’s device-cgroup-support.c, where it
expects the process to be in a cgroup created by snapd but finds it in
an app-gnome-*.scope cgroup instead. I think this is down to a race
condition between gnome-shell and snapd.

On the gnome-shell side, it’s doing:

spawns the app via GLib.spawn_async, which returns the pid of the
running child process.

Calls GnomeDesktop.start_systemd_scope on the pid.

start_systemd_scope calls the systemd StartTransientUnit D-Bus
method to move the pid to the app-gnome-*.scope cgroup.

On the snap side:

the executables in /snap/bin are equivalent to running snap run
snapname.

the snap run code asks systemd to move its own pid to a snap.*.scope
cgroup via StartTransientUnit.

it then execs /usr/lib/snapd/snap-confine to set up the sandbox.
This includes the device-cgroup-support.c code with the cgroup check.

if it could set up the sandbox correctly, snap-confine execs the
sandboxed application.

I think the problem occurs if gnome-shell’s StartTransientUnit call
occurs between steps (2) and (3) on the snap side.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1999308] Re: Snap keeps uninstalling apt Firefox, and reinstalling snap Firefox

2023-03-23 Thread Martin Petersen
I'm having the same problem on my work provided Ubuntu system and this
behavior alone would have let me switched OS if I'd be allowed to. I
exaggerate a bit :)

I would like to ask You to provide a possibility to disable or exclude
firefox as snap for good.

For now I check for the installation type of firefox (snap or deb) and
remove snap and the corresponding Ubuntu packages and install the PPA
packages again. It was funny for a while but became tiresome quite
quickly.

dpkg -l | grep firefox
ii  firefox1:1snap1-0ubuntu2
  amd64Transitional package - firefox -> firefox snap
ii  firefox-locale-de  1:1snap1-0ubuntu2
  all Transitional package - firefox-locale-de -> firefox snap

sudo snap remove firefox
sudo apt --purge remove firefox firefox-locale-de
sudo apt install firefox firefox-locale-de

I also tried to give priority to the PPA packages as Gordon did and to
disable Snap refresh in total because I became annoyed.

sudo snap refresh --hold

I don't want to rip out Snap as a whole b/c it is a work provided device
but I am at loss why the installation of small applications like gnome-
calculator or ksnip or firefox must be pushed as Snap.

Please try to respect Your users preferences.

Thank You all and kind regards,

Martin

  and when that didn't work
 sudo snap disable firefox
 sudo snap remove --purget firefox

  The former should be enough - that's a direct expression of my preferences,
  some thing like "You should have typed sudo snap remove --do-not-reinstall
  --disable-auto-ignore-preferences firefox" would not resolve this bug.

  When installing using apt-get, the correct version is being installed, and
  snap afterwards does not show the presence of firefox:

  When creating an OpenVPN connection, a temporal connection called tunN

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2012388] Re: Unable to focus Windows below system tray (wayland session)

2023-03-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. So "AnyDesk" is a real 200x200 window of class InputOutput.
Since it has "Override Redirect State: yes" it will always be on top.
Just the fact that it's completely transparent means you can't see it
even though it still consumes the mouse clicks.

So the bug in AnyDesk is either than it's failing to render anything, or
failing to hide itself when unused.

** Summary changed:

- Unable to focus Windows below system tray (wayland session)
+ AnyDesk X11 window is invisible and steals mouse clicks

will report back on that if I manage to actually file a bug there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2012534] Re: JS ERROR: Error capturing screenshot

2023-03-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This is a new dependency introduced in gnome-shell 44. Why it is failing
I don't know, because GBookmarkFile has existed (with a default
constructor) since 2006.
