[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1971418] Re: network-manager/1.36.4-2ubuntu1 ADT test failure with linux/5.15.0-28.29

2022-05-11 Thread Zachary Tahenakos
To reproduce this issue, the following can be done:

1. Create a jammy autopkgtest image via: autopkgtest-buildvm-cloud-ubuntu -r
jammy
2. Install the 5.15.0-27-29+rfkill2 headers, modules, and unsigned image from
https://launchpad.net/~ztahenakos/+archive/ubuntu/zt-test-kernels/+build/23733020
 into the image.
3. Run the network-manager autopkgtest

The kernel in step 2 is Jammy linux 5.15.0-27.28 with upstream
54f586a9153201 (rfkill: make new event layout opt-in) added on top.
Based on comments in include/uapi/linux/rfkill.h, userspace changes may
be necessary in order for correct communication with rfkill to work,
otherwise we may start to see more failures in rfkill based tests or
usage.

I experienced similar behavior. It turned out to be the color depth was
8bpp, instead of 16bpp. There was no error message indicating this, I
only discovered it after a web search and a couple hours of frustration.

like the buttons are dead and the logic behind the gui isn't doing what
its supposed to. Tried reinstalling gnome-control-center and nothing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1693964] [NEW] Menu Bar Becomes Unresponsive On Lock Screen

2017-05-26 Thread E. Zachary Knight
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Version: 16.10 and 17.04

gnome-screensaver: 3.6.1-7ubuntu5

Expected Functionality: I expect to be able to interact with the top
menu bar from the lock screen in a multi-screen setup.

Current Functionality: In Ubuntu 16.10 and 17.04, when locking the
screen either by letting the system idle or manually locking the screen,
the ability to interact with the top menu bar becomes unresponsive. The
ability to switch users, shutdown the system, check battery status, view
calendar, etc is no longer accessible.

This has been tested on two laptops running 16.10 and one after
upgrading to 17.04. Both systems have a multi-screen setup. This only
happens after changing focus from the initial locked screen to another
screen. As long as the mouse cursor is not moved to another screen, you
can access the top menu bar. Once focus changes to another screen, all
top menu bar functionality is gone until you log in as the current user.

This was tested in Ubuntu 16.04 and the bug was not present.

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

   - drag the terminal window with left mouse button

  What I expect:
   - Window should move around and size should stay the same

  What I actually see:
   - Window becomes smaller and smaller

  Workaround
   - resize the window before you drag it around (Win+RMB-Drag)
   - resize the window to a size that is odd to the height of a character
   - when there is a bit space in the bottom of the window (clientheight is not
a multiple of the height of one line), moving will work correctly

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 505765] Re: gedit problem with long lines

2015-04-14 Thread Zachary
Hello,

here is a bit of update of what Morgane reported, it seems that there are
specific characters with which you can reproduce this bug like "(", "[", "{",
"$", "\" ... (there may be others).
When those are followed by a lot of space chars the cursor position on the
screen and the position it seems to be on, aren't the same. Furthermore if you
try to delete the last character you end up deleting characters that are above
the cursor and the cursor itself isn't moving from its position.

We explored Gedit's source code and we doubt that this is a Gtk issue.
We posted a message on Gtk's bugzilla to ask them if they can confirm it
is related or not. If anyone has any updates to make let us know.

  Hi,

I was editing a text file when the cursor began to behave strangely.
  The file contained these lines:

  CREATE TABLE people(
   integer primary key,
   name varchar(50),
   age integer
  )

When I put the cursor after the 'l' in 'people', the arrow key would
not move the cursor to the right. Instead it jumped to the next line.
Similarly, I could not add text at this position.

Viewing the file in a hex editor revealed a lot of spaces (284 to be
accurate) after the opening parenthesis. Probably I've added those
spaces without knowing it (resting my book "beginning Ruby" on the
space bar ^ ^). Still, I feel the editor should handle a few hundred
chars on a line without misbehaviour.

I attached a copy of the text file.

Thanks for developing and maintaining this simple but useful editor!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1339917] [NEW] [E-265M, SigmaTel STAC9200, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2014-07-09 Thread Zachary Latson
Public bug reported:

ubuntuone-instaler 3.0.2-0ubuntu1.1 is the version

I had thought it was 12.04.2 if that makes sense ??

I used to have sound, I went into the sound menu to turn up the sound
and boom, no more sound. I have windows on this computer as well and
there is sound there but not for anything on ubuntu - nothing.

I was shocked when the test tone played from your database for the first test
and puzzled why it didn't play for the second. I selected speaker internal but
it is the same for anything headphones or what have you. I have looked for
instruction and gotten here. I just did a system update and that didn't help
the problem.

and puzzled why it didn't play for the second. I selected speaker internal but
it is the same for anything headphones or what have you. I have looked for
instruction and gotten here. I just did a system update and that didn't help
the problem.

The issue was caused by an .Xmodmap carried over from a backup of my
dotfiles. No bug. :/

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1293481] Re: asp.net 4.0 with apache does not seem to work on trusty

2014-04-22 Thread Zachary Burns
My fix was as simple as changing

/etc/mono-server4/mono-server4-hosts.conf

and setting the MonoPath line to the following (from 4.0 to 4.5)

MonoPath default /usr/lib/mono/4.5:/usr/lib

This is a sister-bug to #1292567 which reports a similar problem with
asp.net 2.0. I have created two different reports, because the faults
manifests themselves very differently, depending on the asp.net
  version.

I have created an extremely small ASP.NET application (attached as a
  tar file).

When I run that against the apache server on "saucy salamander", using
  mono-server4, it runs just fine.

When I run it against the apache server on the current beta of "trusty
tahr", using mono-server4, the mono-server4 dies with a SIGABRT. The
client gets a "500" error and the mono process running
  /usr/lib/mono/4.5/mod-mono-server4.exe disappears from the system.

Luckily there is a good description in the apache error log:

  Debug info from gdb:

  =
Got a SIGABRT while executing native code. This usually indicates
a fatal error in the mono runtime or one of the native libraries
  used by your application.
  =

So, as you see, the SIGABRT occurs in a basic mono runtime routine called
from the mod-mono-server4.exe
module. Of course, I cannot know whether the bug that causes the abortion is
in xsp or in basic mono. But
any search after the bug would start in mod-mono-server4, so I chose to file
the bug against that package.

I have the same bug on my company's larger ASP.NET application.

This report is not made from the "trusty" installation, that one is a
test installation without access to the net, so you don't get all the
stuff that apport would collect to you. Honestly, you don't need it to
reproduce, just grab a pristine trusty installation and try it!

However, a few important package versions:

  libapache2-mod-mono: 2.11+git20130708.6b73e85-4ubuntu1
  mono-complete: 3.2.8+dfsg-4ubuntu1
  mono-apache-server2: 3.0.11-1

I am willing to offer any possible kind of assistance in fixing this
problem - my company had looked forward to upgrade to "trusty". But,
to be honest, I don't think you really need my help - the problem is
so trivial to reproduce, it ought to be pretty trivial to fix if you
  know the ropes.

  best regards

Also package needs to be changed so it doesn't hang due to enabling
mod_mono and mod_mono_auto - just give the user a choice or accept the
mod_mono_auto as default. See attached screenshot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1267328] [NEW] [13.10] No headphones detected in designated jack (Alienware M14x R2 / Intel C210 / Creative CA0132)

2014-01-08 Thread Zachary Bryceland
Public bug reported:

My M14x R2 comes with three jacks: one solely for a microphone, one for
a headset, and one for headphones. The headset jack is detected and will
play audio, but is physically damaged. The headphone jack is not
detected; that is, when headphones are plugged in, they are not shown in
sound settings, and sound continues to play from the speakers. I've
followed the ubuntu troubleshooting guide, but found little
documentation of this same issue. Thanks for any help.

2012-11-19 Thread Zachary Salzbank
Haven't seen any updates on this, but since I need to do this every time
I update the kernel, I created a script that will automatically patch
the driver for me. I've attached it below. Not that it modifies
/etc/depmod.d/ubuntu.conf in order to ensure the custom driver is
loaded.

Title:
  Widgets misaligned in xfce

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
As one can see in the attached screenshot, the widgets in rhythmbox
are misalligned. The slider that depicts progress through the song
obstructs the name of the song and the artist. Also, the bottom of the
album cover should be flush with the bottom of the track list, but it
  is not.

The environment is xfce as installed from xubuntu-desktop

It is possible that this was not an issue before changing the xfce
style to radiance and then back to graybird, but at this point,
reverting to the original theming does not resolve the issue.

Running precise beta 1, rhythmbox 2.95.5
