Fixed-top is already good. To get the height of the header reduced and

hmm... I personally don't like too much very tall fixed headers, they
tend to take up a lot of vertical space.

of course, I don't meant to fix the current header. First try to reduce
its height (row for breadcrumb, space between breadcrum and carousel,
top menu, etc. Then if it's still too high fix just some upper parts.

Of course our logo has to be put somewhere

The logo could go in the fixed menu for example, on the left, though in

Yes, a fixed logo would be very visible.

that case, I'd reduce the number of entries of the menu itself because
at certain resolutions (from 800px wide up to 1024 and maybe something
more depending on the size of the logo) the menu would go on two lines,
and it doesn't really look good IMO.

Hm, I don't see a 2-line menu but the nice hamburger icon at top right
that is known from mobile devices. That looks good.

Do you know the "Web Developer" add-on for Firefox? I've discovered that
it shows the layout in specific screen resolutions (from 320x480 to
1024x768) for different phone anf tablet devices.

Every small resolution has just a horizontal scrollbar and no vertical one.

With all resolutions your webpage looks already very well. :-)

Mixing the two, what about some "moving stuff around" while scrolling?

It's getting better and better with every update. :-)

Thanks for this.

Are the css "compiled" somehow as well, or are they in the home.css,
ooo.css, etc. files?

No, they are plain and will be just applied to the webpage.

Okay, well, in my example I collected the bits from the various places
into a single file (it's just about 400 lines, so not much to deal
with), since most of them were not necessary.

It seems I'm getting the grasp of how the website works, now I have just
to understand how to enable SSI on my localhost.

don't worry. Maybe you can rescue some:

- For Khmer (km) the data is commented out, so the redirect will not
work. You can use this code:

ភាសាខ្មែរ (km)

- The English list item should be shown as "English (en)" to be
  consistent to the others.

- The ISO code for Norwegian [Bokmal] is "nb".

- The brackets for "Norwegian, and both Portuguese should be written
  like for Serbian.

Thanks

[WEBSITE][DOWNLOAD] Newest updates to webpages

2014-07-13 Thread Marcus (OOo)

Hi all,

I've finished some more work on the download webpages. Because you can
benefit from these changes for your localized website you may want to
know how to use it.

- Download webpage:

1.
All the colored boxes + navigation bar + logo section can be defined to
be shown or not. If they should be shown, the text can be localized in
"msg_prop_l10n_XX.js".

For an example see the source code of
"http://www.openoffice.org/xx/download/index.html";.

- Download scripting:

1.
Moved all variables and functions into an single global object "DL". Now
only this object is in the global scope of the browser window and no
longer every little variable (best practices in JS scripting).

2.
The same for the localization strings in "msg_prop_l10n_XX.js" (global
object "l10n").

3.
An error text is shown when choosing not suitable select box options
(e.g., OS X 32-bit + any language + 4.1.0). If it's not possible to
translate the English wording properly into your language, then (more or
less) free text can be defined.

See the variables "l10n.dl_error_custom_1_text" until
"l10n.dl_error_custom_4_text" (depends on the exception case) in
"msg_prop_l10n_XX.js".

- Select boxes:

1.
The list items can be localized. The current strings are in English and
can be found in "msg_prop_l10n_XX.js".

See the variables "l10n.dl_green_box_select_box_os_values",
"l10n.dl_green_box_select_box_language_values" and
"l10n.dl_green_box_select_box_version_values" in "msg_prop_l10n_XX.js".

2.
Furthermore, in the language select box the list items have a tool tip
(native language name + ISO code).

BTW:
I'm now subscribed to the L10N mailinglist.

And as always, if you need more details just ask. :-)

Maybe good or bad. But it's definitely a step back as the buttons are
just colored but now we have a graphic. This would be gone which is,
hm,
not good looking... ;-)

In the buttons of course one could reuse all the graphics, but still use
Bootstrap buttons for the shape and to highlight the "active" choice.

If the idea is to use bootstrap it may be worth re-adapt the entire HTML
according to the "bootstrap way".
It will be a pain at the beginning (it basically means rewrite a lot of
stuff), but I suppose it would be an advantage in the mid/long term.

I think we will play at first - within a test area - to see what a
framework can really do for us. However, to have your suggestion in mind
is good to know now.

For example, another thing I was considering is the separation of the

All in all it looks very good. Of course our logo has to be put
somewhere and maybe a bit more blue color into the header. However, the
centered layout in general is fine.

The carousel is out of discussion and IMHO already agreed to implement.

The 2-column design for the list items/buttons is good.

Finally, thanks for your efforts. That's definitve a great point to
start from. :-)

ah, yes, that would work.

The current divs do not look bad (actually, they look nice!) on the
current homepage, while they don't fit well in the new proposal;

It would be nice to know "why". ;) (Of course just because if you tell
me the "why" I may try to understand how to fix it.)
The very first time the hovers were a bit random (they didn't always
reach the bottom border), in the "second version" they are more
consistent (except the last two because the underline is not on the
, but on the, but that's a detail that can be fixed), if it is
what you mean.
