No problem - I have SB1, SBG (both wireless), SB2 (wired and wireless),
all happily syncing from flac files. They are less happy with streamed
sources but absolutely no problems with music served locally.

Recent functionality in the 6.2 release means that Slimserver will do

[slim] Odd stopping behavior at playlist start..

2005-09-03 Thread Richard Grant
I am using squeezebox 1 with 6.1.1 Slimserver on Windows XP. Startup is through
perl and slimserver.pl.

This is the problem where the squeezebox claims to be playing (the mode is
playing according to xml/status.xml and the regular web interface skin.. Now
playing reports the correct track on the squeezebox display), but if you have
the Now Playing display set to show elapsed time, it shows a bizarre number
like --2:--30:-1, and no sound comes from the squeezebox. Slimserver still
occupies a typical CPU/memory slice, but the audio does not end up being output
over the RCA jacks. This has happened to me on both Windows (XP) and Linux
(FC3/FC2) platforms.

Using xml skin status.xml shows that elapsed time is some seemingly arbitrary
large number of seconds under tag
player_statuscurrent_songseconds_elapsed:

current_song
playlist_offset0/playlist_offset
playlist_length11/playlist_length
remove_urlxml/status.xml?p0=playlistp1=deletep2=0/remove_url
seconds_elapsed8299/seconds_elapsed
seconds_total314/seconds_total

Pressing and holding the pause button to enter the stopped mode, and then
pressing play clears up the problem. Looking again at seconds_elapsed after
the stop and play procedure, we get a more reasonable value:

current_song
playlist_offset0/playlist_offset
playlist_length11/playlist_length
remove_urlxml/status.xml?p0=playlistp1=deletep2=0/remove_url
seconds_elapsed12/seconds_elapsed
seconds_total314/seconds_total

This is a truly annoying problem that occurs infrequently. I am hopeful that
the clearly wrong seconds elapsed at the start of playlist will help identify
the problem.

[slim] Re: Multiple Folders / Volumes problem

2005-09-03 Thread Beau

Hi Michael,

Thanks for posting but I had already read the FAQ and followed it's
advice before posting. Permissions were a problem originally and
slimserver couldn't see the linked drive at all. After sorting out the
persmissions on the slimserver PC and entering UNC style path I got to
where I am now:

When I browse music folder I can see the linked drive and the genre
folders in it but when I then click on each genre folder it says
Empty

It's very frustrating so any other ideas would be very much
appreciated.

TIA
Beau

2005-09-03 Thread bishopdonmiguel

Daniel,

If I understand your issue correctly, you want to know why one of your
Squeezeboxen is selected as the current player in the dropdown although
you never selected it. You also might notice that if you select the
desired unit and then exit, when you restart the web interface the
other unit is reselected.

I am using 5.4.1 and this has been a personal annoyance of mine for
some time. I asked around a bit in the forums a while back regarding
how SlimServer selects the default unit but never got a good answer.
My experience leads me to believe that the Squeezeboxen are listed in
alpha order the but default selection seems to have something to do
with the MAC address. I have leanred to live with this by physically
swapping players and renaming. Of course, if anyone knows of a better
way to do this, it would be appreciated. A new set as default option
would also be nifty.

You can also tack a ?player=macaddr at the end of your SlimServer link to force a specific player to be active. This, I believe needs to be supported by the skin author so it won't necessarily work this way on all skins. I believe Default has supported this for awhile, and more recently ExBrowse has been updated to support this too.

[slim] Re: Songs show in search, but not in Browse artist

2005-09-03 Thread egauthier

Mikerob,

Thanks, but no it doesn't show under Various Artists.

It is the strangest thing. An Advanced Search for the Artist doesn't
find the Albums. When I search for a song that I know is there, the
search results show the artist correctly.

However, the one album that does show up normally under Browse by
Artist shows the artist id as 1491 when I hover over the link.

When I hover over the artist link in the search results of the missing
song the artist id shows as 848. All of the missing tracks have
this artist id.

So, it appears that there are 2 different artists being created for the
same artist string. I have verified with a tag editor and in the iTunes
Library.xml file that the Artist strings are identical.

I am running a rescan right now with d_info to see if that can tell me
anything.

-Eric

I guess I am not making myself clear.

1. The folders all have Artwork.
2. The artwork is named cover.jpg in each folder
3. I have repeatedly rescanned the Libary with the CLEAR LIBRARY

4. I have Place Holders enabled for the Artwork. The Artwork that
does not display only shows the Place Holder.

Is this making any more sense? I would really appreciate some

This is not the only issue either. There are a number of albums that
display twice in Artwork. One will display the Artwork however, the
second display is Place Holder only with no Artwork. This is really
strange as there is only one folder each for the individual items.
There are no shortcuts in the music folder as well. So, where is Slim
Server picking up the second folder with no Artwork?

[slim] Great Radio Tool for Squeezenetwork question

You can find it at

Question:
I see squeezenetwork listing streaming locations that end with .pls,

ending in .asx. What format is .asx? It appears my SB2 does not
support them.

With SqueezeNetwork we see the Squeezebox able to connect to something

straightforward protocol that could be utilized from a Squeezebox in a
similar manner - connect, disconnect, etc. Is it in the plans for the
future, or is there a reason that UPnP couldn't be used by a
Squeezebox?

Too much UI code to do implement in the Squeezebox itself?

Or maybe the Squeezebox is just so handicapped compared to competitive
UPnP players which have either superior displays or TV video interfaces
that it makes it not worth the effort?

uninterested in reading so my question never got asked...

When I'm on the web looking at the many radion stations, what file
extensions does the streaming audio need to be in for my SB2 to work
with it?

I know .pls works. What are the others?

Thanks, in advance.

The Software Roadmap is publicly available here:

It is a living document, subject to refining along the way.
There are ongoing discussions in the developer forum.

OK, then the question becomes: Why is UPnP _NOT_ in the plans for the
Squeezebox?

[slim] songs missing from library; squeezebox restarts

2005-09-03 Thread odavis

I'm running Slimserver on my G4 Powerbook with OS 10.3.9

Some songs that previously showed in my library no longer do, even
though they are still in my Music folder, show in iTunes, and can be
played.

I suspect there's some kind of corruption in the Slimserver catalog
but don't know how to force a rebuild.

Am I on the right track? Could it be a different problem? Anyone know
how to force a rebuild? (I couldn't find the answer searching this
forum).

Another problem that plagues me from time to time is my Squeezebox
(original with an upgraded display) will randomly restart in the middle
of a song. When it does this it completely reboots and then starts
playing the same song from the beginning. Quite annoying and not a
great selling point for folks enjoying the music. I'd love to solve
this problem.

Thanks for any help!

Regards,

Owen

because you haven't put it there. It's a wiki. Click the edit button, or
better yet submit a design spec, or better yet submit a patch.
Alternatively, you could put your ER into bugzilla.

Web interface, Server Settings, Rescan Music Library. If a rescan
doesn't fix it, check the Clear library before rescan box and do it
again (this may take a long time).

Why would I want to edit the software roadmap? Why would anyone want
you or I editing it?

Why is it that simple question posted to these forums end up being a
pissing match about 1/2 the time?

Alternatively, you could put your ER into bugzilla.
There's been one there for a while with no discussion or comment from
any Slim developers. Status is 'New', which is the equivalent of
something between 'forget about it for the foreseeable future' and
'you've got to be fg kidding'.

I'm just asking why that is?

Or maybe the Squeezebox is just so handicapped compared to competitive

that it makes it not worth the effort?
BTW, I didn't mean that to sound like a dig at the Squeezebox, but
wonder if it's the limited display that would make using a UPnP server
very difficult. I've never used a UPnP player, but I'd imagine that
something like a DVD player could implement a fairly nice user
interface when connected to a TV. Without a video out, maybe the
Squeezebox just can't be expected to show enough information for useful
navigation.

The beauty of the SlimServer is that it is open source.
People volunteer and make patches. The downside is that
it is open source, and only volunteers make patches.

SlimDevices has no where near enough software engineers to
do all the cool things that people want. They do some stuff.

Volunteers do most of it. Folks like KDF and others.

It is mostly volunteers who provide a lot of the customer
support. its a community. Slim does hardware stuff
and critical changes for new hardware. And if your hardware
is broken, they will fix it or send you new ones.

The reality is, if you want it really because it is really important to
you, do a design, write it up, define how it works, etc.

Or get hundreds of people to agree that it is a priority and
Sean, Patrick or Dean will move it up their priority list.

Slim Devices ain't Microsoft. I like it that way.
YMMV

[slim] What happened to the old interface?

2005-09-03 Thread jorg

Hi,

I just upgraded to the newest version of Slimserver and now it does not
open in its own dedicated browser like it used to but my default
internet browser.

Is there any way to get the old dedicated browser back? Thanks.

Actually, please don't edit the roadmap unless we've got some
consensus here or in the bug database about direction.

[slim] Re: songs missing from library; squeezebox restarts

I started the rescan (thanks for the pointer!) and went to do something
else. When I came back, I discovered that the Slimserver had stopped
running. I started Slimserver again from the apple control panel and
went to the Search for one of the songs that's been missing. As soon
as I type a character in the search box, the Slimserver stops running.
I can restart, but I can't search.

Bee-zarre. Happens whether I use Safari or Firefox.

Anyone seen this before? Any tips for troubleshooting and isolating
the problem?

Thanks in advance!
