In theory, applets like scannerbox can probably work, but at the moment you need to enable a development menu and install them manually through ssh and the question is if the developer of scannerbox want to support UE Smart Radio under these conditions. erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thanks, Erland. I'm currently running 7.5.2, so I already have support for a Touch. The Touch would probably be the best bet, since I do have a small but growing collection of 24-bit music and much of it greater than 48kHz sampling rate. AFAICT plugins are developed by people primarily for themselves and not for reward. Then the plugin may be released to other users if there is no likelihood of legal repercussion and /or developer is willing to suppoirt users. I reckon supporting user takes way way more time than devleopment time (and can be more frustrating). Plugins to interface to commercial services such as Deezer could be fraught with legal issues (e.g. possibility of copying) and using APIs may require legal undertakings. I think the possibility of these issues would deter developers. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

That means the warranty of the last large volume of Squeezeboxes will determine how long mysqueezebox will last . A year or two is my guess. IOW: LMS might be just pointing that player to it's appropriate firmware located on a Logitech server online, possibly even MySB.com. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes, in it's current form, as long as you keep the original LMS download on your computer and you don't use LMS beyond it's current OS support. Will LMS development, updates, bug fixes continue forever? Of course not. I still use some VHS tapes on occasion, but I'm not expecting any firmware updates for that VHS player. ;) toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes, you can use direct stream URL's in LMS absent MySB.com. The problem would be subscription services. No, SB hardware will not just "update to UE" some day. The only player that is even capable of being updated to UE is the SB Radio, and I'd guess that requires downloading the new UE server and connecting the Radio to that new UE server, and might even be more involved than that, I dunno. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] What features will no longer work if mysqueezebox.com is shut down?
I only have a few questions: If/when mysqueezebox.com goes offline can I still listen to Internet radio via LMS? I assume LMS will last as long as you want it to (forever if you like) and Logitech can't shut this down as it's downloaded software. There will just be no further support (updates) for LMS. Correct? DO I NEED TO TELL MY PLAYERS NOT TO AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE FIRMWARE AS I DON'T WANT THEM TO GET THE NEW UE UPDATE? Last point is crucial for continued LMS compatibility I feel. Yesterday when all this was breaking news, I was in the midst of browsing TigerDirect for a suitable UPS for a particular purpose. I noticed they had the Touch available for a reasonable price, and when I ordered my UPS I ordered a Touch. It will sit in a box along with my OTHER spare Touch, although I may set both of them up temporarily in order to update firmware. R. Re: [slim] What features will no longer work if mysqueezebox.com is shut down?
Considering all the clever plugins availabe (which is one of the things that makes the SB system so impressive) I wouldn't be all that surprised to see someone coming up with a plugin or somesuch that made at least some online services available to SB users even after MySB is dropped, perhaps by mimicking a "new Radio" towards the new backend. Someone used the term "proxy" and that sums it up pretty good I think. alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] What features will no longer work if mysqueezebox.com is shut down?
Curious as to this, myself. I'm not being all 'chicken little' here. But if mysb.com shuts down in 2 years, will my Touch and Radios still work at all after a reboot? If I need to grab a spare player, should it be a Classic, or a Touch? I'm pretty pissed about this development I use the Live365 plugin every single day. Re: [slim] What features will no longer work if mysqueezebox.com is shut down?
LMS does not need MySB.com to play basic URL's, like those saved or input into your LMS Favorites. But you will lose menu navigation of everything within Internet Radio and My Apps absent MySB.com. The other issue is subscription services handled by MySB.com (account login and management). You can emulate what LMS life will be like without MySB.com by simply removing your MySB.com login info (or enter bogus login info) within LMS > MySB.com. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] What features will no longer work if mysqueezebox.com is shut down?
I'm curious about this, as it isn't obvious on the surface what functionality is being provided by mysqueezebox.com behind the scenes. I run my touch from LMS with a laptop controlling the web interface. I browse shoutcast.com a lot. Do the features under the Internet Radio node in the LMS interface (Staff Picks, Local, Music, Talk, etc.) depend on mysqueezebox.com? How about setting up a new Touch, if, say, I were to get a spare? I remember having to enter a mysqueezebox.com user name and password, but I don't know if this is strictly necessary. andy_c's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3128 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96207 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
