Syncing with soft players often gives trouble in a variety of ways -
IIRC one user had lots of rebuffering messages.

Since soft players only have MP3 and Flac native - all other formats
will be transcoded into Flac - this will lead to increased sever and
network load. If all players are on wireless connections you may be
getting network issues with say 3 streams of Flac.

I suggest checking if you get the buffering messages with just Boom
playing and no players synced.

Interesting. I am using a 7.5.4 - r version of the server. I mostly
stream radio, at least, I haven't unpacked and reconnected my music
library yet.

So I've increased the station buffering, doubled it, and I'll take a
look at what happens. I appreciate the second suggestion. I don't
think it has an effect since I almost always have two sync'd players,
and so it uses proxy streaming anyway.

Regardless, I found the description of how the connections are made
informative, I've been wondering what goes directly to the player, and
what is proxied through the server.

Wow, excellently stated and extremely comprehensive!

Do you use your boom for playing stored music files as well? If so, do
you also get these rebuffering issues when playing those? Many users
have reported rebuffering problems with the latest (7.4 and 7.5) server
versions. I usually got problems after some time, say half an hour of
listening - and then it became impossible to listen to music.

I am now using server version 7.6, and haven't had any issues so far
(although it is a bit early to tell yet).

Having read nothing here, I have to recommend not running the "lastest
squeezeplay" and expecting anything other than disappointment. Try
turning that off first. (I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first
time.)

Wouldn't speed in connection affect streaming of radio sound bytes? Once
there's a minute drop in data speed I notice these sorts of problems
myself.

Re: [slim] Connecting... Buffering... Connecting... Buffering... Connecting... Buffering...

2011-05-23 Thread bpa

Have you tried increasing Radio Station Buffer it is helpful if the
station has a "lumpy" stream.
Increase WebUI Setting/Advanced Network/Radio Station Buffer and click
Apply.

Another suggestion

If the stream is MP3 or WMA then the stream goes from station direct to
Boom to be played. If the stream is MP3 or WMA then you can try
getting SBS to proxy the stream and so the stream goes from station to
PC and then to Boom so PC will do the networking handling.

Change WebUI Settings/Player/Audio/MP3 Streaming Methods/ to "Proxied
Streaming" and click Apply.

Ignore the "MP3" IIRC it is true for both WMA and MP3

Thanks,

Not sure how it related to radiotime

This problem has occurred for months and months, but in recent weeks it
occurs much more often.

MySB.com and/or RadioTime are having issues. I think RadioTime is
changing their entire stream format so expect glitches.
Many have resolved these issues by running SBS server as you are doing
(which isn't resolving it for you :().
Maybe try not running your software player? That might be contributing
to your problem. Just a guess.
