[DQSD-Users] DQSD Wizard on Win 7 / IE 9 ?
Hello folks, I still use DQSD on a hourly (or maybe even minutely !) basis – how’s that for a n about 10 years old utility ? :) Now, I wanted to make a new search using Glenn’s Wizard <http://dqsd.net/searchwizard.htm> for the first time since I switched to Windows 7 / IE 9. Problem is that upon installing dqsdwiz1.3.exe, it says that DQSD is not installed, and then aborts installation. Same happens in compatibility mode. And it happens on Win 7 32 bits as well as 64 bits. Has anyone a clue ? Cheers, MLL -- Keep Your Developer Skills Current with LearnDevNow! Re: [DQSD-Users] escape separator in *aliases.txt?
I can confirm that there's no no-brainer installer for Win 7 64 bits. A pity, but maybe there's a good reason to it ? MLL Le 27/06/2012 09:24, James Nix a écrit : Dorene, Well it is not THAT hard. Just follow the steps. Mostly circumventing Win7 security gotchas. DQSD 64-bit did not have a "simple" EXE install kit for any 64-bit MS OS, XP or Vista much less Win 7 for a long time and I don't believe that it does now. Someone on this mailing list might correct me. So the "tradition" of installing DQSD 64-bit manually has a long history. The instructions I wrote up simply provide the steps specific to Win7 64-bit security and its quirky use of IE 32 bit on 64 bit machine. ( I know WHY MS does it, but DQSD does not know that it does it). I tried an EXE version that was supposed to be compatible a while back but it was not. Don't know how that one was tested So to answer your question, 64-bit was never a "snap" only 32 bit because an installation EXE never existed. To my knowledge it still does not. Nobody ever "packaged" one that I know of. To answer your previous question I have not personally tested it with Firefox, Chrome... I believe others have and nobody ever said it that it does not work. I know it works with Sea Monkey! 8-) Let me know if you have any specifci questions. The install only takes about 5 minutes of minor hoop-jumping to overcome Windows 7 security settings. I just installed IE11 and. sure enough _javascript_ errors. The "empty" error in the Clocks.js script can be commented out to allow further testing (otherwise you get an error every clock refresh!). Just search for "empty" in the Clocks.js file. Once that is commented out the DQSD taskbar window becomes a vertical/horizontal scroll window - sort of amusing. Then the taskbar can be stretched vertically for access. Once that is done, the aliases will work. But if a "test" or "newegg.com" or "some random search text" is entered then a "nodeValue" error is generated in Defer_tools.js. I don't know Java so I have no idea why IE11 fails when IE10 works fine. Is this some deprecated feature problem? Is IE11 trying for force use of "newer" Java syntax? Anyway to force it NOT to do that? Luv my DQSD I have not seen any IE11 "New" features/performance improvements I can't live without. I know the DQSD java is old. Is there some "Java version" declaration statement need to enable the older syntax to run as-is. In FORTRAN we could always compile older code with a "version" switch to negate a re-write when using a newer compiler version. It just doesn't allow you to get > information from > the registry about the current install directory (AFAIK). I I guess NSIS can fetch the info in the registry. For instance, winamp's plug-ins (like AVS presets at http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.jhtml?categoryName=AVS+presets) are exe's built with NSIS that "guess" where winamp's AVS directory is located - probably by reading a value in the registry. Or another solution : the way you install Winamp Skins. See a very detailed explanation at http://www.winamp.com/nsdn/winamp2x/dev/skins/zip.jhtml, "history" section. The latter seems more powerful though (e.g. it can register dll's) MLL > guess we could > have it prompt for the default install, and have the user > enter the actual > install if it was different, but I'd prefer that it be automatic. > > > so does ZipCentral (cool freeware zip util) > http://zipcentral.iscool.net/ > > > > > I can confirm that zipmagic allows the user to specify > > > a target directory for the extraction, and the user is > > > asked to confirm/override the default target directory > > > when the archive is unpacked... > > > > ___ > > Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference > August 25-28 in Las Vegas -- http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm > > ___ > Dqsd-users mailing list > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dqsd-users > http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=8601 > ___ Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference August 25-28 in Las Vegas -- http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm ___ Dqsd-users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dqsd-users http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id01

I accidentally entered a phone number with trailing spaces and the phone.xml regex didn't match it, but Google did a lookup on it. Also maps, stock quotes... See http://www.google.com/help/features.html Anyway, I checked in a fix to handle trailing white space for phone.xml, but I'm thinking that it may not be necessary with Google. In fact, Google found one that AnyWho didn't (what phone.xml uses). Thoughts?
[DQSD-Users] Paste in the textbox
Hi, Here's a problem I've got : 1. click on the DQSB textbox (last search string get highlighted) 2. ctrl+V paste (new text replaces the former, nothing being highlighted) 3. type something, its appears *before* the just-pasted text, instead of after in standard Windows behaviour So, is it on purpose, or a bug ? Additional searches can be found here > (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/searches/)" Well, actually this info is in the FAQ at http://www.dqsd.net/faq.htm#gettingsearches But there (in the FAQ), I'd rather write something like this : "Yet unreleased (until next version) searches can be downloaded from Source Forge at http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/searches/"; (instead of "Searches can be downloaded from Source Forge at http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/searches/";) More generaly, I think useful info is scattered between (1) the web site main page, (2) the online FAQ, and (3) the about/help box. RE: [DQSD-Users] cyclical events in the calendar
Hi Monty, "été", "FÊTE", "Fête" as event name work fine. Being a twisted mind :) , I tried also "âéôîûêäÄëËÏïöÖ", it yields "Bad 'Event Name' specified.." A trick to enter anu charcter if your keyboard doesn't sport it : - go to Start > Accessories > System tools (YMMV) > Character table - click on the character you want => at the bottom right of the window, you get Alt+code, for instance for ¿ the code is 0191. RE: [DQSD-Users] New searches
Yes, the RCF search is pretty cool - aren't we geeks ? ;) But I thought the official site for RFCs was http://www.rfc-editor.org/ (with a fine search form at http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfcsearch.html). They say : "The RFC Editor is the publisher of the RFCs and is responsible for the final editorial review of the documents. The RFC Editor also maintains a master file of RFCs called the "RFC Index", which can be searched online. For nearly 30 years, The RFC Editor. was Jon Postel; today the RFC Editor is a small group funded by the Internet Society" What's your take about this ? [DQSD-Users] RE: [DQSD-Announce] ANN: DSQD Search Wizard 0.7 (beta)
I upgraded, but can't reboot for some time. Tried alternatives : logoff/logon, kill all instances of explorer.exe, but no avail. Is there any tricky way of the new search wizard to be incorporated into IE ? MLL > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Glenn > Carr > Sent: Monday, September 09, 2002 8:38 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [DQSD-Announce] ANN: DSQD Search Wizard 0.7 (beta) > > > Version 0.7 (beta) of the DQSD Search Wizard has been > released and is available > here: > > http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=42081&re lease_id=109729 This release fixes some minor formatting issues in the generated search files and also adds some new features suggested by MLL. As always, testing and feedback are appreciated. Thanks, Glenn Changes for version 0.7 (beta) 9-Sep-2002 * Added option for mutually exclusive switches which changes gen'd code for parsing switches. (If this option is selected, the generated code will only examine the first switch. If not selected, then the code will examine all the switches.) * Added feature to highlight selected FORM with user-configurable color/border. This works most of the time, but in cases where it doesn't work there is already a border/background specified for the FORM that can't be overridden. Change the CSS styles for border and background-color in the options.) * Added button to show/hide HTML of selected FORM. This display is arguably a waste of screen space with recent enhancements (auto-selection of active FORM, highlighting selected FORM). It's still there, but just off by default. * Fixed indentation of 'break' in generated code. --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone? RE: [DQSD-Users] RE: [DQSD-Announce] ANN: DSQD Search Wizard 0.7 (beta)
Glenn, First feedback : maybe you should include a more complete skeleton for the description field. Something like : Type your description here. Example: type your example here ...so that we use the right styles / layout. Worked perfectly for the -simple- search I'm about to upload to CVS, BTW. The highlighting is very convenient, and indeed obsolete manual parsing of HTML to check that the right form is selected. (Don't try "glos I love you") Google Glossary is a great tool (as is Google Sets IMHO). But Google says at http://labs.google.com/ : " * Just a note: these technologies are still in the beginning stages of development, so they may disappear without warning or perform erratically. If something's not working on this page, please come back and try it again later. " So they're not even betas, they're alphas. Isn't it too early to publish such a search ? Shouldn't we at least wait for Google Glossary to reach beta state ? We know how Google betas (Groups, News,...) have proven reliable and powerful in the past. RE: [DQSD-Users] bug with ac
Hi Tom, Experienced the same in the past with Gozilla. This isn't linked to DQSD. Try to cut'n paste the URL you provided to IE's address field, you should see FreshDownload act the same. It kinda brainlessly pops up because it believes you're downloading an exe, while it's a server-side app that just queries a database and makes an html file with the results. You should either disable FreshDownload or have a look at it options, looking for some exception list to which you could add .EXEs, or all stuff from getzips.com. Actually, It's one of the 3 reasons why I still have the Google bar (tip, if you don't know : cut'n paste text into Googlebar's textbox, click the highlight button, you're done, but quite tedious I recon). And if you want to know, the 2 other are : the "up one -or more- level" button, and the "search this site" button. So I agree this is a cool idea (if doable, as you said). I think you should file a request in SF on this one too. RE: [DQSD-Users] can't get focus on dqsd
Hi, 1. whenyou say "IE maximized", do you meen "full screened" actually ? Anyway, I can't reproduce your problem on my machine either way. 2. On my Win2K SP3 + IE6 SP1, DQSD works like a breeze. MLL -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of SGP Sent: Monday, September 30, 2002 8:45 PM To: dqsd Subject: [DQSD-Users] can't get focus on dqsd When IE is maximized I can't get focus on dqsd no matter how I try, with WIN+S or with mouse clicks. I seem to remember someone else had the same problem. The only fix is to minimize or normalize IE, then WIN+S and mouse clicks work as expected. If anyone is working on a patch I can help test it on my machine: Win2k SP2, IE 6.0, latest official dqsd. By the way, does dqsd have problems with Win2k SP3? Should I try to upgrade that one first? Hi Matt, Thanks for contributing. Your slightly edited 3 searches will be in the next release (mainly, an erroneous type="invisible", and the use of nullargs function, so that ebuy? returns a help message). Also, math was renamed mathref to prevent common names from appearing as searches.
