[DQSD-Users] DQSD Wizard on Win 7 / IE 9 ?

2012-03-06 Thread MLL
Hello folks,

I still use DQSD on a hourly (or maybe even minutely !) basis – how’s that for
a n about 10 years old utility ? :)

Now, I wanted to make a new search using Glenn’s Wizard
<http://dqsd.net/searchwizard.htm> for the first time since I switched to
Windows 7 / IE 9.

Problem is that upon installing dqsdwiz1.3.exe, it says that DQSD is not
installed, and then aborts installation. Same happens in compatibility mode.
And it happens on Win 7 32 bits as well as 64 bits.

Has anyone a clue ?

Cheers,

MLL

Dorene,

Well it is not THAT hard. Just follow the steps. Mostly
circumventing Win7 security gotchas.

DQSD 64-bit did not have a "simple" EXE install kit for any 64-bit MS
OS, XP or Vista much less Win 7 for a long time and I don't believe
that it does now. Someone on this mailing list might correct me. So
the "tradition" of installing DQSD 64-bit manually has a long
history. The instructions I wrote up simply provide the steps
specific to Win7 64-bit security and its quirky use of IE 32 bit on 64
bit machine. ( I know WHY MS does it, but DQSD does not know that it
does it).

I tried an EXE version that was supposed to be compatible a while back
but it was not. Don't know how that one was tested

So to answer your question, 64-bit was never a "snap" only 32 bit
because an installation EXE never existed.

To my knowledge it still does not. Nobody ever "packaged" one that I
know of.

To answer your previous question I have not personally tested it with
Firefox, Chrome... I believe others have and nobody ever said it that
it does not work. I know it works with Sea Monkey! 8-)

Let me know if you have any specifci questions.

The Windows XP DQSD was a /SNAP/. This one for Windows 7 64

How come DQSD for Windows 7 can't be as easy as XP?

Is there a video tutorial on how to install DQSD on Windows 7 64 bit?

Just wondering. Hey! Maybe you ought to make one. Hahahaha j/k.

Re: [DQSD-Users] [DQSD-Devel] IE 11 breaks DQSD

Well the 64-bit Windows 7 version has been working well
  for  IE9 & 10 for
some time .  The install only takes about 5 minutes of
  minor hoop-jumping to
  overcome Windows 7 security settings.

I just installed IE11 and. sure enough _javascript_
  errors.  The "empty"
error in the Clocks.js script can be commented out to
  allow further testing
(otherwise you get an error every clock refresh!).  Just
  search for "empty"
  in the Clocks.js file.

Once that is commented out the DQSD taskbar window becomes
  a
vertical/horizontal scroll window -  sort of amusing.
  Then the taskbar can
  be stretched vertically for access.

Once that is done, the aliases will work.  But if a "test"
  or "newegg.com"
or "some random search text" is entered then a "nodeValue"
  error is
  generated in Defer_tools.js.

I don't know Java so I have no idea why IE11 fails when
  IE10 works fine.  Is
this some deprecated feature problem?  Is IE11 trying for
  force use of
"newer" Java syntax?  Anyway to force it NOT to do that?

Luv my DQSD  I have not seen any IE11 "New"
  features/performance
  improvements I can't live without.

I know the DQSD java is old.  Is there some "Java version"
  declaration
statement need to enable the older syntax to run as-is.
  In FORTRAN we could
always compile older code with a "version" switch to
  negate a re-write when
  using a newer compiler version.

Any Java gurus out there listening?

I can help apply changes if somebody sends them to me.

svn diff output of changes would be great, but I can probably integrate
whole files if you can zip them up.

I saw some suggestions above, but I'm not sure if any of them are good to go

And may I say today I chose *not* to suscribe to dqsd-announce for I thought it was
not used (your 2.5.8 beta 3 announcement was on the obsolete Y!Group but no there at
the time). But now I will :)

Glad to become famous ! :) I'll improve it some day (search by name instead of SIREN

Wow ! qsfind is so cool !

[DQSD-Users] New search

2002-04-22 Thread MLL

Hi all,

Attached is a new search. It fetches the owner of a french phone number. May be
improved in the future to allow also several criterias (last name, city,...). For
this, I need to know more how to deal with arguments in DQSD

Cheers,

MLL

  French phone numbers
Get the name behind the phone number. Spaces and other separators allowed. Example: "tel 01.42-92*81_00"
  People and Places
  http://www.infobel.com/france/wp/search/
  MLL
  allow several criterias (lastname, city,...)
  <![CDATA[
function tel(q)
{
  if (q == "")
openSearchWindow("<A  HREF="http://www.infobel.com/france/wp/search/"">http://www.infobel.com/france/wp/search/"</A>;);
  else
openSearchWindow("<A  HREF="http://www.infobel.com/france/wp/search/result.asp?firstRec=0&cityguess=1&lastname=&dep=&city=&phone="">http://www.infobel.com/france/wp/search/result.asp?firstRec=0&cityguess=1&lastname=&dep=&city=&phone="</A>; + q);

Ditto.
"run a" gives "Could not run a" as one could expect. "run a b" opens up the
explorer, on "C:\Program Files\Common

  Same

Hi all,

Has anyone else had a problem with the run
command in version 2.5.8 beta 4?  Specifically I used to be able to
execute the following command prior to upgrading:  "run ping -t
www.yahoo.com".

Now if I give run any argument with multiple
words it merely opens up an explorer window to the c-drive root
directory.

P.S.  Glenn, excellent job on the
command menus.

Dear Google Friend:

We'd like you to be among the first to try Google Answers, a
Google Service that's being introduced in test (beta) mode to
a select few Google users.

Google Answers enables you ask questions of trained
researchers on any subject you like for a fee you set
yourself. Google's expert Researchers will find the answer
you're seeking in a timely manner and notify you once their
research is complete. The answers you receive will be thorough
and accurate and contain links to additional resources, if
available.

Google Answers is great way to find answers to complicated
questions you don't have time to research yourself:

- Should I trade in my car or sell it myself?
- How safe is the neighborhood I live in?
- What companies make human vaccines?
- How many sheep are there in New Zealand?
- What summer camps offer kayaking and computer classes?

Everyone is looking for answers. Now you have someone to find
them for you.

Give Google Answers a try at:

Thanks,
The Google Team

P.S. Because Google Answers is still in development, we'd
greatly appreciate your questions, comments and suggestions.

AFAIK, Sysinternal.com's Process Explorer

the job. In the process list, double-click explorer.exe : il will give you the start

RE: [DQSD-Users] Fwd: Dave's Quick Search Deskbar v2.5.7 - bug?

2002-05-18 Thread MLL

Hello all,

Sorry about that, but after checking, the script errors on my WinXP/IE6 home PC have
"disappeared" now. I remember having done a complete deinstall before installing
latest build, that's what mended DQSB I guess.

Cheers,

MLL

Hi Dan,

FWIW: I'm in the same case, but I just use the "from..." field in Outlook

I think this could be a question answered by the FAQ in the works, together with :

"I crafted a search file ; where can I share it with the world ?"

And I have a suggestion : what about separating the searches files from the engine
distribution ?

They are basically only a file containing a script in X-setup's language. Something
more elaborate is, IIRC, Winamp's plug-ins : you double-click them (they have a
special file extension, registered by Winamp), and they get unzipped and all necessary
stuff gets done also.

I guess NSIS can fetch the info in the registry. For instance, winamp's plug-ins (like
AVS presets at http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.jhtml?categoryName=AVS+presets)
are exe's built with NSIS that "guess" where winamp's AVS directory is located -
probably by reading a value in the registry.

Or another solution : the way you install Winamp Skins. See a very detailed
explanation at http://www.winamp.com/nsdn/winamp2x/dev/skins/zip.jhtml, "history"
section.

The latter seems more powerful though (e.g. it can register dll's)

  lookup
  Did
everyone but me know that Google does reverse phone number lookups?  I
accidentally entered a phone number with trailing spaces and the phone.xml
regex didn't match it, but Google did a lookup on it.

Also maps,
stock quotes... See http://www.google.com/help/features.html

  Anyway, I
checked in a fix to handle trailing white space for phone.xml, but I'm
thinking that it may not be necessary with Google.  In fact, Google found
one that AnyWho didn't (what phone.xml uses).

  Thoughts?

[DQSD-Users] Paste in the textbox

2002-06-03 Thread MLL

Hi,

Here's a problem I've got :

1. click on the DQSB textbox (last search string get highlighted)
2. ctrl+V paste (new text replaces the former, nothing being highlighted)
3. type something, its appears *before* the just-pasted text, instead of after in
standard Windows behaviour

So, is it on purpose, or a bug ?

Cheers,

MLL

Glenn, I downloaded &
executed the exe, it installs finely in the right directory (how does the
NSIS fetch its name BTW ?), but even after a "!" reload, I get nothing...
"?googlespell" returns a "no matches" alert box, and "googlespell albart
einstein" takes me to google to search this whole
string.

Don't I have to update some
.js or .exe file, too ? For instance, I entered my Google API licence key
nowhere, but normally I should get a warning, shouldn't I
?

Added

googleLicenseKey='xxx/';

did you manually go and get the latest loader.js?  i think it is
necessary.  i believe glenn mentioned that in a message yesterday.
Oh, thanks

Now this works !
One small drawback : my personal firewall tells me explorer.exe (*not*
iexplore.exe) tries to access the web (some google IP address on port 80). Quite
foreseeable actually, but is there any way to change this to iexplore.exe, which
is usually allowed to access port 80 ?

[DQSD-Users] googletrans

2002-06-04 Thread MLL

Hi,

Attached is googletrans.xml, a search made just the same way as freetrans, but that
uses google translations.

Upon loading it, QSB gives this pop-up error box : "Unable to load search from
searches\googletrans.xml: no white space allowed there"

Could somebody dive into googletrans.xml and tell me what's wrong (I have no clue) ?

TIA

This first example has been cleaned up, and it should
be pretty easy to duplicate for other add-ons.  Here's the install
  kit...
  http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=42081&release_id=92883

Any more thoughts on whether this whole add-on thing makes sense?
Makes a lot of sense for me. The
Googlespell function may not "have general
appeal", but it shows the way to access many
interesting web services (existing or yet to come) that use APIs.
IMO

Thanks John, but I meant, is there an incorporated command to achieve this (say, a

I'm not able do do such a thing myself. But I was able to add a feature request :-)
See
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=564400&group_id=42081&atid=432069

BTW, looks like some cleanup could be done on the feature requests status (some "open"
ones seem to have been implemented).

Great tip, thank you Glenn ! Now googletrans.xml is fully functional (see attached
file).

Now I'd like to have "hello world en-fr" to use it, but this requires to play with
tranlate.js. Right ?

Yes they do, provided you change the path to where DQSB is actually installed
("E:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar" for me). Save one thing : the history stays

I have updated the wfb.xml search to use its own form since it got broken when the
google searches were consolidated into one xml file.

You can get the latest rev of wfb.xml from here:

[DQSD-Users] New search : setiq.xml

2002-07-01 Thread MLL

Hi everybody,

If you search for ET through the seti@home project, and use setiqueue (a great
setiqueue proxy / statistic tool), this "search" file is for you. As its description
says, it allows you to "Directly login as an admin to your setiqueue web admin
interface without having the hassle to go through the login page."

Please read the warning in its description before using the /server parameter.

Happy to contribute once more.

Note for the CVSmasters : please feel free to edit it before uploading, especially the
awkward english sentences.

Hi,

I was wondering if adding

cal=false;

RE: [DQSD-Users] holidays.it.xml

2002-07-12 Thread MLL

yes I am. But I just found the reason why. If you set zero-padded numbers for months
or days in a date item, in a holidays.xx.xml file, the date is simply ignored - no
error message, no anything. Maybe that should be corrected ?

Thanks for your tips anyway.

Well, actually this info is in the FAQ at http://www.dqsd.net/faq.htm#gettingsearches

But there (in the FAQ), I'd rather write something like this :

"Yet unreleased (until next version) searches can be downloaded from Source Forge at
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/searches/";

(instead of "Searches can be downloaded from Source Forge at
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/searches/";)

More generaly, I think useful info is scattered between (1) the web site main page,
(2) the online FAQ, and (3) the about/help box. IMHO, some info from 1 should go to 2,
and some info from 2 should go to 3 (or conversely).

Thoughts ?

>Also in the same file the FAQ link is broken. (beta 3.0.0.19)

I corrected this. Thanks.

[DQSD-Users] new search : acine.xml

2002-07-18 Thread MLL

Hi all,

I added a new search to the CVS : acine.xml

With it, you can search allocine.com, THE french site about movies, stars, theaters
schedules, critics, trailers, etc... The /zip switch is specially useful.

Till next release, it's available at
http://cvs.dqsd.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/searches/acine.xml

Enjoy ! :)

Hi Monty,

Well, this is fun ! Just one thing : Event Names with accentuated characters (a, e,

OK, thanks. I guess localsearchurl's syntax is close to the former one of searches.xml
(but I didn't know DQSD at that time). To keep the way local searches and installed
searches are built similar, have you ever considered to define a directory
("localsearches" e.g.) containing several xml files, rather than one file ?

RE: [DQSD-Users] Win Key + S focus problems

2002-07-22 Thread MLL

The problem that was fixed is the need to hit Win+S twice. As for the F1 issue, I
don't know.

What problem got fixed? F1? I'm running beta 3.0.0.20 and I still have that problem.

I don't have that problem on my win2k SP2 box. I use Win Key +Z instead of S, auto
hide and two taskbars, one at the top of the screen and one at the bottom. quickbar's
on the top taskbar. When I press Win+Z I get quickbar into focus with the last co
mmand highlighted, if I press Win+Z again the cursor moves at the end of the line
ready to append.
However, F1 doesn't work for me, it starts the Win2k help file.

RE: [DQSD-Users] cyclical events in the calendar

2002-07-22 Thread MLL

Hi Monty,

"été", "FÊTE", "Fête" as event
name work fine.

Being a twisted mind :) , I tried
also "âéôîûêäÄëËÏïöÖ", it yields "Bad 'Event Name' specified.."

A trick to enter anu charcter if your keyboard doesn't
sport it :

- go to Start > Accessories > System tools (YMMV)
> Character table
- click on the character you want => at
the bottom right of the window, you get Alt+code, for instance for ¿
the code is 0191. Then just Type it, you get the character.

I did it. Seems to work. Please note that

gg cardinals /fresh /since:w

now is

gg cardinals /since:7

for I replaced d, w and m by direct specification of the number of days required in
the past.

Get it there :
http://cvs.dqsd.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/dqsd/dqsd/searches/gg.xml

I don't really see where Google's XML-RPC or SOAP or whatever APIS are involved here.

RE: [DQSD-Users] refresh icons

2002-07-25 Thread MLL

Will,

Here's my experience :

1. intalled Beta 22, rebooted
2. some since long disappeared tray icons are now back ! Some are not, though (i. e.
my UPS monitor)
3. typing refreshicons afterwards changes nothing.

Win2K, IE6

Anyway, thanks for the enhancements !

Right. But your trick allows the come-back of other icons that don't come back after a

RE: [DQSD-Users] New searches

2002-07-31 Thread MLL

Yes, the RCF search is pretty cool - aren't we geeks ? ;)

But I thought the official site for RFCs was http://www.rfc-editor.org/ (with a fine
search form at http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfcsearch.html). They say :

"The RFC Editor is the publisher of the RFCs and is responsible for the final
editorial review of the documents. The RFC Editor also maintains a master file of RFCs
called the "RFC Index", which can be searched online. For nearly 30 years, The RFC
Editor. was Jon Postel; today the RFC Editor is a small group funded by the Internet
Society"

What's your take about this ?

Joey,

Check the current jdk search...

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*checkout*/dqsd/dqsd/searches/jdk.xml

...to see if you can modify it instead of adding another related search. I haven't
looked at either closely enough to know if they could be merged, but it's a
possibility.

I'll check the rfc search in (way cool).

I wrote a new search to search the Internet RFC/STD/FYI/BCP Archives.

And another search to use the Javadoc search engine from Sun.

Sorta' nerdy but useful.

A tricky bug on DQSD Search Wizard 0.6 : it makes [quote]action="http//[/quote]. See

Also, the following part makes a miw between the date and maker :

Dave's Quick Search Deskbar Search Wizard version 0.6 (beta),

very useful tool anyway. Thanks !

RE: [DQSD-Users] ANN: DQSD Search Wizard 0.6.1 beta

2002-09-06 Thread MLL

Hi Glenn,

I've been using it : it wroks fine !

3 comments :

- the indentation for the created "break" lines is wrong (they're 5 chars ahead of the
"case" instead of 2)

- it would be great, if possible, to have some editing functions in the textbox titled
"HTML for selected FORM", such as searching, replacing, maybe deleting & typing, or
-let's dream- syntax colouring. What do you think ?

- i tried to set 2 switches : "1" and "2". DQSD produces this :
  //var args = parseArgs(q, "1, 2");
  //if ( args.switches.length > 0 )
  //{
  //  switch( args.switches[0].name )

is it on purpose ? Shouldn't it indroduce some loop like this one :

Also : the end of the script :

[DQSD-Users] RE: [DQSD-Announce] ANN: DSQD Search Wizard 0.7 (beta)

2002-09-10 Thread MLL

I upgraded, but can't reboot for some time. Tried alternatives : logoff/logon, kill
all instances of explorer.exe, but no avail. Is there any tricky way of the new search
wizard to be incorporated into IE ?

This release fixes some minor formatting issues in the generated search files
and also adds some new features suggested by MLL. As always, testing and
feedback are appreciated.

Thanks,
Glenn

Changes for version 0.7 (beta) 9-Sep-2002

* Added option for mutually exclusive switches which changes gen'd code for
parsing switches. (If this option is selected, the generated code will only
examine the first switch. If not selected, then the code will examine all the
switches.)
* Added feature to highlight selected FORM with user-configurable color/border.
This works most of the time, but in cases where it doesn't work there is already
a border/background specified for the FORM that can't be overridden. Change the
CSS styles for border and background-color in the options.)
* Added button to show/hide HTML of selected FORM. This display is arguably a
waste of screen space with recent enhancements (auto-selection of active FORM,
highlighting selected FORM). It's still there, but just off by default.
* Fixed indentation of 'break' in generated code.

Glenn,

First feedback : maybe you should include a more complete skeleton for the description
field. Something like :

  Type your description here.
Example:

  type your example here

...so that we use the right styles / layout.

Worked perfectly for the -simple- search I'm about to upload to CVS, BTW. The
highlighting is very convenient, and indeed obsolete manual parsing of HTML to check
that the right form is selected.

Hey, I just heard about this a couple of weeks ago, through Google's newsletter ! How
did your hear about it before ? (it's never too early to hear about Google novelties)

> It's still in beta but usually give
> several meaningful results. Try "glos taksbar".
> The quality of the results is inline with the quality of the

Google Glossary is a great tool (as is Google Sets IMHO).

But Google says at http://labs.google.com/ :

" * Just a note: these technologies are still in the beginning stages of development,
so they may disappear without warning or perform erratically. If something's not
working on this page, please come back and try it again later. "

So they're not even betas, they're alphas. Isn't it too early to publish such a search
? Shouldn't we at least wait for Google Glossary to reach beta state ? We know how
Google betas (Groups, News,...) have proven reliable and powerful in the past.

[DQSD-Users] Explorer crashes

2002-09-13 Thread MLL

Hi,

For a couple of weeks, I've been experiencing more frequent explorer.exe crashes. I
can't say whose fault it is - DQSD recent versions or not.

Did anybody experience this lately, too ?

BTW, I'm on Windows 2000 (SP3 for some days now).

DQSD does load at windows startup, if you followed the instructions given by the setup
program, that allows you to place it in your taskbar once and for all (see attached
picture).

Indeed, it seems it is. I'd do this to make sure it deinstalls / reinstalls fine :

1. uninstall DQSD
2. reboot
3. Delete directory C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar
4. install DQSD and follow the instructions.

RE: [DQSD-Users] bug with ac

2002-09-19 Thread MLL

Hi Tom,

Experienced the same in the past with Gozilla. This isn't linked to DQSD. Try to cut'n
paste the URL you provided to IE's address field, you should see FreshDownload act the
same. It kinda brainlessly pops up because it believes you're downloading an exe,
while it's a server-side app that just queries a database and makes an html file with
the results.

You should either disable FreshDownload or have a look at it options, looking for some
exception list to which you could add .EXEs, or all stuff from getzips.com.

HTH,

I tried
 ac 770
This page _tried_ to open in my browser
 http://www.getzips.com/CGI-BIN/ziplook.exe?What=4&Area=770
and my download manager (FreshDownload) popped up looking to save ziplook.exe.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Cheers - Tom.

RE: [DQSD-Users] Unable to run on WIN NT

2002-09-20 Thread MLL

Hi Mohammed,

You're right, Windows NT4 can not add customized toolbars to its taskbar, unless you
installed the "Desktop update" together with Internet Explorer *4* ! Since then,
Microsoft didn't include this option in later releases of IE (for complex monopoly
reasons I think).

RE: [DQSD-Users] DQSD with Crazy Browser

2002-09-20 Thread MLL

Thanks Paul for the tip - Crazybrowser seems very convenient. I'm using it as my
delfault browser now.

I'm on the very same setup as you (W2K SP3, IE6 SP1), and got to have DQSD work with
it. First, do what Gelnn's URL says to have CB as default browser. Second, put the
following line into DQSD's localprefs.js :

launchmode=1;

It does the job for me

Hey, Monty skipped this point, while I think it's a very interesting one !! Actually,
It's one of the 3 reasons why I still have the Google bar (tip, if you don't know :
cut'n paste text into Googlebar's textbox, click the highlight button, you're done,
but quite tedious I recon). And if you want to know, the 2 other are : the "up one -or
more- level" button, and the "search this site" button.

So I agree this is a cool idea (if doable, as you said). I think you should file a
request in SF on this one too.

Agreed, but this could be an option, global or per-search. Sarah described it quite
well at her feature request at
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=432069&aid=616368&group_id=42081

Hi,

1. whenyou say "IE maximized", do you meen "full screened" actually ? Anyway, I can't
reproduce your problem on my machine either way.

2. On my Win2K SP3 + IE6 SP1, DQSD works like a breeze.

When IE is maximized I can't get focus on dqsd no matter how I try, with WIN+S or with
mouse clicks. I seem to remember someone else had the same problem. The only fix is to
minimize or normalize IE, then WIN+S and mouse clicks work as expected.
If anyone is working on a patch I can help test it on my machine: Win2k SP2, IE 6.0,
latest official dqsd.
By the way, does dqsd have problems with Win2k SP3? Should I try to upgrade that one
first?

didn't see THIS one anywhere (unlike the one I posted this
  morning)

  Ultimate Band List
  (UBL) hosted by ArtistDirect
  very similiar to the
  All Music Guide

  I just included the
ability to do normal searches, although the site itself offers other links to
search by Genre or Year - way beyond my abilities...if anyone has some free
  time, go for it :)

RE: [DQSD-Users] Ebuyer search add-on

2002-10-23 Thread MLL
Hi Matt,

Thanks for contributing. Your slightly edited 3 searches will be in the next release
(mainly, an erroneous type="invisible", and the use of nullargs function, so that
ebuy? returns a help message). Also, math was renamed mathref to prevent common names
from appearing as searches.

You can see them at :

Cheers,

MLL

RE: [DQSD-Users] computer groups

2002-10-25 Thread MLL

Fine
for me. You have a big screen - it's the menu is higher than
my screen. Lucky guy.

Reference is getting big, too...

  The
"computer" is getting too large.. The menu it generates is almost the entire
height of my screen...  Unless someone objects, I am
going to divide the computer category of searches
  into separate categories..
I am thinking -  Programming, Software,
  Networking and Computing Reference..

  Is this ok with everyone??

RE: [DQSD-Users] Amazon search

2002-11-04 Thread MLL
I CVSed it meanwhile. Appreciate the change very much !

How old is this language setting ? Could be used in gg.xml, too (there's a "language"
switch).
