[Elecraft] Mail delivery problems - OT
Is anyone, especially in the UK, experiencing any difficulty with mail to / from the Discussion List? During the past day or two I have received two sometimes three copies of most List postings, and have had two connection refusals. I am pretty sure that the problem is not at Aptos, and my other mail is "working" properly. 73, Geoff GM4ESD ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] WA3WSJ: K2 Logger Progress with my K2 etc.
Hello all, I finally got the conduit working with my Palm 105 and the K2 Logger Program! Now all I have to do is build the I/O and try it out. I think controlling my K2 with my Palm 105 will be so cool! No bulky computer to worry about, just my little sweet Palm. I've become attached to this little gem and I have installed a few nice loggers such as K2 Logger, QSO Diary, GoLog and ARSSSlog. I also have installed a personal "Diary" program, Listlt, Band Plan, Army First Aid Book, Star Chart and a few games. Now on to building that I/O for the K2. 72, Ed, WA3WSJ ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] First Elecraft kit completed.
You'll notice I didn't say on the air. That's because my first kit was the lowly DL1 Dummy Load. I plan to eventually build a K2, but that didn't seem like a good place to start. Next on the block are a Norcal 40A and a T1. I can't wait to make the first contact using equipment I built. Gotta sharpen up my CW first though :) For those that worry about the increasing age of the ham population, I'm 22 years old. I'm just getting in to kit building now that I have a real job and real disposable income. Building from scratch with new parts bought in small quantities from "regular" sources rarely saves any money. Kits are a different story because the kit company can get volume discounts. RE: [Elecraft] EL foil for K1 backlighting
You probably recall mounting a big black neoprene spacer between the display and the board (pg 21, Figure 5-7). That's got to come out first so that means removing the LCD. Re: [Elecraft] EL foil for K1 backlighting
Hi I have not tried it but there are some glow in the dark plastic sheets that once charged up with a flashlight will glow brightly for several hours. This is not the stuff you played with as a kid. This sheeting will put out some serious light for quite a while with only a few seconds charge time. A 3x5 card of this stuff will light up a room in complete darkness enough to read by. My thought would be to replace the K1 display with the one with the clear back and place a piece of this glow sheet behind the display. AC7AC deserves credit for his posts to the Reflector. "Why I build. Why I bother..." is great writting and causes us to do some thinking about what is important to each of us. This post brougnt back memories to me about watching steam trains with my father. Another tidbit from Ron was "Instant QRN". (2005-03-19) A report about Mt. St. Helens activity was also great. Ron's inputs make reading the Reflector worth while. Of course his technical comments are the real reason we read his posts. But I am so glad he gets OT with other comments. [Elecraft] how to buy and build three Elecraft rigs
From my experience: begin with a K1. You'll be thrilled to have such a great rig, and to have had to joy and success of building it. Then, go for the KX1...because it also has those SWL bands, because it's so ultra-portable - because it's just so darn cool! Finally...find some way to interact with somebody's K2. Then you'll get one of those, too. No volition required...you'll just realize that it's at the top of any sane ham's must-have list. Et voila! LL/11/379/4442=4832 __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? [Elecraft] Re: [NJQRP] WA3WSJ: K2 Logger
I keep getting an error message. I did load the extra Window file, but it still doesn’t work. I really like this little Palm 105 I bought off eBay. I’ve installed about four loggers in it to date and only have trouble with the K2 Logger Conduit. More to come. Hi Ed ( and group) Ok, first uninstall the Conduit using the -r as in the directions. See below; Make sure under "your name"(palm's user name) in the Palm dir a folder is called K2logger... if so delete same. Ok, run the install prgm again... you should get a messg saying conduit install ok or similar. The folder, K2Logger, in the "your name" will be created during the sync. **You MUST set the PALM desktop Prgm , UNDER Hotsync settings / Custom, for the K2logger that handheld palm OVERWRITES computer Files should tranfer ok... remember that the new will overwrite the older files , so rename them if needed on the desktop computer. all best Tom aa2vk Installation instructions: 1. Unzip the file in a temporary directory. 2. Copy the K2LoggerCond.dll file to your Palm directory (typically C:\Program Files\Palm). 3. Run ConduitInstall from a command prompt. This will register the conduit. The conduit is used to transfer the log during HotSync. If you get an error when running ConduitInstall you will need to download a copy of condmgr.dll from my website. Most of the time your Palm Desktop installation will already have installed this library. If you download the library from my website, unzip it into the temporary directory containing ConduitInstall.exe and try running it again. 4. Install the K2Logger.prc file on your Palm using the Palm Desktop and HotSync. UnInstall instructions: 1. Delete the K2LoggerCond.dll file from your Palm directory. 2. Run ConduitInstall -r to unregister the conduit. 3. Delete the K2Logger program on your Palm. New features in version 2.0 Faster! This version is written in C++ and runs much faster than the 1.x versions. Log is automatically copied to PC during HotSync. Your log will be written to two different files. One is a tab delimited text file and the other is an ADIF compatible text file. Most desktop logging programs can import the ADIF file format. The files are located in your directory under the Palm installation. For example, my log files are in C:\Program Files\Palm\CainP\K2Logger. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. [Elecraft] K2 Low Output Power
OK, I confess that after building control and receiver circuits [carefully] with no problems, I wanted to believe the rig was 100% after initial transmitter alignment. I put the rig on the air and made contact immediately. THEN: a friend loaned me his OHR WM-1 wattmeter so I could actually measure the output. It was all over the map, but always low and not very repeatable. I checked the soldering. I resoldered everything that looked even a little suspect. I measured the resistance of each of the toroids and transformers. I measured dc voltages. I monotored the ALC circuit. I measured rf voltages in the transmitter with the provided probe kit. Everything seemed ok except the transmitter was low on drive and the power supply current was high. Wait, I see a patern! Time to check my dummy load. [I have been using 2w dummy loads for my other qrp rigs. For this job the only thing I have >2w is a Heath Cantenna <2Kw>] The Cantenna is open! Dummy load is 100Kohm. Not good - but happy dance, the radio is fine [I was very careful with the finals! Very short test times and reasonable current limits. I check the radio with my qrpp dummy load [1 watt] and all bands put out the asked for [low] power. I repaired the Cantenna and touched up the transmitter alignment. Power is predictable and controlled on all bands. Time to open the SSB kit. The lesson once again is do not assume things - I had not used the dummy load since going qrp 10 years ago.
