We were in India in 1993 for our son's (and daughter-in-law's) wedding. Her parents told us that every spare piece of change was converted to gold, because of inflation. I have a nice gold ring as a souvenir. We were asked to bring pots and pans as gifts. Re: [Elecraft] Price Comparisons
Using the Consumer Price Index as an adjustment mechanism, prices have risen by 360% between 1977 and 2011. That is, to buy something worth $100 in 1977, you'd have to pay $360 today. Another inflation adjustment mechanism that most economists consider more useful is the Gross Domestic Product Deflator. It shows a slightly lower rate of inflation -- mere $293 in 2011 equivalent to $100 in 1977. Inversely, $1.00 in 1977 is the same as 27.7 cents today. You can run any CPI or GDP calculation at http://www.measuringworth.com/. It will calculate inflation between any two years (US Currency) from 1774 to the present. In the following table, I have converted the prices quoted by Fred Jensen into equivalent current prices using the GDP Deflator. The prices are mind-boggling. What this shows is that amateur radio equipment is a MUCH better value today than it was in 1977. Can you imagine paying #25K for a linear amplifier? Or $16K for a transceiver? For rough comparison purposes, a fully loaded factory-assembled K3 (subreceiver, 100 watt internal amp, ATU, 2 meter transceiver, P3 panadapter, full set of 8-pole filters, etc -- the works) would cost about $8,000, or almost exactly half the cost of a KWM2A. And yet it has vastly better capability than the Collins rig. If you compare to the value of any other manufacturers' rigs, YMMV. Thank you, Eric and Wayne! - Equipment COLLINS PART NO. That is, $1.00 at the beginning of his term was worth 71 cents when Reagan took office. [Elecraft] Are K3 serial numbers sequential?
It would be nice to someday see a listing of serial numbers on the Elecraft website indicating the year that a piece of equipment was shipped from the factory for some of the major items: K1, KX1, K2, K3, KPA500... No rush of course. Far more important to get orders out the door than to make lists (hi hi). Simple list of ranges would do it: S/N 1 - S/N 00998 2008 S/N 00998 - S/N 01998 2009 etc... etc... de Andy, KD3RF / VE2DXY -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/Are-K3-serial-numbers-sequential-tp6476926p6476926.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] KPA500 question
My KPA500 sn 70 arrived tonight (factory assembled). It took just a few minutes to hook up and get it on the air. I am using the Y cable on the ACC port to split off two cables from the K3 ACC port -- one goes to a new RCS-12 Automatic Antenna Switch and the other goes to the KPA500. I have AUX BUS on the KPA500 menu turned on and Band Change set to normal. If I press a band button on the amp, the K3 changes bands and so does the new antenna switch -- pretty neat. But the band display on the KPA does not change. I have to hit the key and transmit to get the band to change on the KPA500. This does not seem correct. It would seem that pressing any on the band buttons on the amp should change the band on the amp and the frequency display as well. Likewise if I change bands on the K3 or via my logging software, the K3 and antenna switch change bands, but the KPA500 does not. I have to tap the paddle and transmit to get the KPA500 to change to the correct band. I am wondering if there is a problem with the Aux Cable. Any other suggestions? I am up to date on firmware for both the K3 and KPA500. The amp runs very quiet and is silky smooth in full QSK mode. I just need to get the band changing issue resolved. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 question
Still waiting for my KPA-500 kit, so just a guess do you have CONFIG:KIO3 in your K3 set to TRN, by any chance? It probably needs to be nor, or maybe HF-TRN, to feed the KPA-500 properly (see page 19 of the K3 Owner's Manual). ~iain / N6ML On Wed, Jun 15, 2011 at 2:33 AM, Dave Perry n...@comcast.net wrote: My KPA500 sn 70 arrived tonight (factory assembled). Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 question
Gary, Good suggestion. I removed the cable going to the antenna switch and now the K3 and KPA500 appear to talk to one another when changing bands. Pushing a band button on the amp changes the amp and the K3 to the new band. I still cannot get the two power levels to work. I also need to figure out how to get the band switch working with the Y cable. So it does appear that the Aux Cable is the culprit. Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 question
You might try isolation diodes between the antenna switch and/or KPA and the K3. If the KPA is not band switching with the RCS-12 connected, I would suspect the RCS-12 is loading the band data lines. How are you connecting the RCS-12? Are you using the Yaesu BCD connections? 73, ... Joe, W4TV On 6/14/2011 11:24 PM, Dave Perry wrote: Gary, Good suggestion.
