Re: [Elecraft] k3 rs232 problem
Juha, OH6OS Did you get solution already? If not please refer following advice that I had given from tech support of Elecraft egarding same problem. ===Q't=== You need to always be careful to remove *all* cables from the K3 is there is a bad lightning storm. We see lots of damage to customer's K1, K2, K3 each summer when this is not done. I learned this the hard way when I lived in Florida where lightning is severe. Possibly U1 on the KIO3 main board is damaged or the negative supply voltage is too low or is missing. We've seen a low negative level on some rigs if the 1kHz oscillator is not working well. With the serial cable removed, please check to see if there is at least -5VDC at U1 pin 8 on the KIO3 main board, or at the gold plated hole which is right next to pin 8 (bottom left side of U1, as you face the front of the rig). -7VDC or more is normal. Also touch U1 to see if it feels hot or warm, or if it looks to be damaged. If you suspect this is the problem, we can send you a new IC for U1, or the entire KIO3 main board will need to be replaced. Also check the little board that has the ACC and RS232 connectors to see if it might have an open SMD RF choke. Use an ohmmeter to see if all of the RFCs show less than 10 ohms as expected. ==Unq't=== GL! [Elecraft] [K3] S/N3050 RS232 port has no response
Dear Elecrafters! Since few days ago, my K3 (S/N3050) has no response from its RS232 port. First no frequency data became obtained by Logger32. Then, I tried to connect by K3 Utility, I tried port refresh, port test, etc. But no reply from the K3. I confirmed K3 Utility program is sending polling signal to K3 RS232 port but seems no reply from K3. I use USB/RS232 converter between P/C and the rig. I changed the connection with other rig such as FT-2000, and it works without problem using same com port, so that I'm sure the RS232 of K3 is something wrong. I'm afraid if K3 got a kind of surge damage because we had a bad wx with lightening just before the reported malfunction occur. I posted same question to tech support but if anyone had same problem please advise how to fix this problem. vy 73 Atsu, JE1TRV from Tokyo Japan __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K3 HI-TEMP ALARM
Wayne & Gary, Thanks for the support off the list. After I set PA TEMP to "R ONLY" instead of "T AND R", the problem stopped. I don't know the reason why. But anyway it seems usable with this setting for the time being. Jaakko, Please try this setting on your K3 too. Re: [Elecraft] K3 HI-TEMP ALARM
Hi folks! Thank you for suggestions. In my previous post, I forgot to say that my K3 works without hi-temp alarm after warming up (about 30min or so without transmit just receiving status). So, it's just the same with Jaako's case. My shack temp was around 15C these days. hmmm... [Elecraft] K3 HI-TEMP ALARM
Hi Elecrafters! I have problem on my K3/100 (S/N3050, factory assembled). When I transmit more than 12W(means hi power amp on) within about 30min after mains power on, HI-TEMP alarm occur and equipment is forced to set 5W. No problem at all when hi-power amp is through ( Po<12W ). Any idea? Re: [Elecraft] Uk Dealer -NO THANKS !
As a Japanese Elecraft fan, I do hope Elecraft to reconsider way of selling K3 to JA. As UK friends pointed out, the Japanese reseller price becomes almost in double. In case of KX1,K1 or K2, the Japanese reseller still has some merit for instance they can provide technical support or repairing service when user have trouble during kit building. In case of K3, it is preassembled and pretested so that risk to buy direct from US should be much lower than conventional model. Many of my friends has interest in K3 but they don't want to pay double just for a reseller.
