Some of our firm's clients are sensitive security entities, and as a
result we are not permitted to have "social media" accounts or
applications using storage outside our own system (i.e. "cloud",
"dropbox", etc.) on any of our computers. Our servers are in a secure
location on our premises. Standard e-mail clients such as Thunderbird
are required.

Is there an easy way to on to use the same key system with the same

Yes, that's what I needed to know. Sounds simple. I'll give it a try.

Could it be because MS doesn't want their customers to be anything more
than "appliance operators"? There are many add-on programs to make
Windows easier and more useful but they are not included and MS will not
support problems with them.

Sorry if this is off-topic.

It's not Enigmail as much as it is Thunderbird. They seem to have "new
and improved" releases quite frequently, and almost as frequently one
or more of the add-ons doesn't work until the author of said add-on
makes some change to keep up with Thunderbird. One of the few
complaints that I have about T-Bird.

This is becoming all too frequent with Thunderbird add-ons, unfortunately.

Thank you for this - I have added it to my T-bird.

I did the upgrade from TB68 to TB78 on two of my Windows 10 office
computers. One went flawlessly. The other had a hitch with trying to
migrate a non-existent key but that was solved and the process completed.

After trying out TB78 on my main computer, I found that two very
important add-ons that I use heavily in message composing ("External
Editor" and "Signature Switch") are not supported in TB78 and at least
one author is not sure whether he will migrate it to TB78. We all went
through this with Firefox last year.

As a result I had to reinstall TB68 on that computer. Even though I
knew the architecture of how TB is stored in Windows and had a current
file backup it took a lot of time and unfortunately some mail messages
were lost in the transition.

The upshot is that unless those extensions are migrated I will have to
keep using TB68 and Enigmail on that computer. The other computer will
keep running TB78.

Thank you for all your efforts in bringing usable encryption to the user
community.

I'm confused. I'm using TB v 68.11.0 (64 bit) for Windows 10 and it
reports as the latest. Have i missed a large series of upgrades?

Re: [Enigmail] Best way to move to TB 78

2020-09-25 Thread Phil Kane
The move of my originating key pair from TB68 to TB78 on a Win 10 laptop
went very smoothly. OpenPGP Key Manager permits me to see that key but
not the public keys from other people, as was done by Kleopatra. The
"Show keys from other people" box in the OpenPGP Key Manager was
checked. Did I miss something or is this a bug in OpenPGP?
