Hi guys,
I am still getting out of disk space errors that shut down exchange. It's a
win2k sp2 exch2k sp1. here is the error:
Source: MSExchangeIS
Category: Content Engine
Event ID: 12801
Message processing failed because there is not enough available disk
space (8004010D-82000374).
I have checked the KB and Technet till my eyes are about to fall out. All
it says is delete some files to make more space. This is a small system by
comparison about 50 users and mailboxes with public folders. The storage
container is about 3 gigs and the drive that exchange seems to create is 5
gigs. A check of the drives free space before a reboot is less than a 100k.
After reboot it's almost 2 gigs. There is nothing on this drive to delete.
If it need to be bigger I haven't figured out how to increase it's size.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The hair on the top of my head is
thin and getting thinner by the minute.
TIA
Matt

Any chance your pagefile is expanding and consuming the freespace on your
disk? You reboot and the pagefile is reset to its' default size?

Re: Still out of Disk space

2001-11-02 Thread Matt Moore

The system is running fine now. It's the disk caching. It has run fine
since June and didn't have a problem till a helper turned on disk caching
to improve the performance. The remaining problem is if the machine gets
rebooted for any reason the disk caching turns on again. I've turned it off
in the bios but windows isn't paying attention. So we turn it off manually
after each reboot. Which won't be happening to often any more. The page
file is on another drive so it's not an issue. None the less thanks for
your reply it's always appreciated.

I seriously doubt it. When I learned to wipe
IT was not even a thought. In fact the few computer that were running were
bigger than your house.
I think you are missing the point. These
lists are about helping each other. Not about throwing snotty barbs at
each other. If you didn't mean it as such, my apologies. When
people post questions to these list, they are humbly asking for
assistance. Not a poke in the eye.
I know there is a certain amount good natured
razzing that happens here. I'm sorry but your "help" didn't strike me as

  Hi guys,
I am still getting out of disk space errors that
  shut down exchange. It's a win2k sp2 exch2k sp1. here is the
  error:

Message processing failed because there is not enough available
  diskspace (8004010D-82000374). I
have checked the KB and Technet till my eyes are about to fall out. All
it says is delete some files to make more space. This is a small system
by comparison about 50 users and mailboxes with public folders. The
storage container is about 3 gigs and the drive that exchange seems to create
is 5 gigs.A check of the drives free space before a reboot is less
than a 100k. After reboot it's almost 2 gigs. There is nothing on
this drive to delete. If it need to be bigger I haven't figured out how
to increase it's size. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The
hair on the top of my head is thin and getting thinner by the
  minute.

You are absolutely correct that is the easy
answer. However the "M:\" drive that I speak of is created by
exchange. It is not a physical disk. I would have already done that if I
could figure out how to get exchange to put it on the new drive.

May be indicates that while the disk may
appear to have enough space, in reality, due to fragmentation or size of the
allocation unit on the disk, the usable space may not be enough. I suggest
doing a chkdsk and a defragmentation. However wait till exchange biggies
are back from lunch.

How about
giving us more info about the system setup. RAID? How many
partitions? How did you setup
Exchange? Default everything? The M Drive is a virtual drive, but it is a representation of
the Information Store. So where is
your Information Store? Is the
drive it is on running out of space? Do you have a drive on the server that has plenty of
space? You can move the databases
that will likely solve your problem.

If
you're running Compaq with Smart Array Controllers you can "expand" the array
using the Array Utility by adding another physical drive and assigning it to
your main IS drive partition..

reboot
NT, it'll CHKDSKand then REBOOT again and it should see the increased
space and run happily.

Make
sure to set your services to Manual on Exchange during this. I assume you can
run with the server down since the IS isn't running
anyway.

Hope
that helps.. let me know what you did to correct..

How
about giving us more info about the system setup. RAID? How many partitions? How did you setup Exchange? Default everything? The M Drive is a virtual drive, but
it is a representation of the Information Store. So where is your Information
Store? Is the drive it is on
running out of space? Do you
have a drive on the server that has plenty of space? You can move the databases - that
will likely solve your problem.

You are absolutely
correct that is the easy answer. However the "M:\" drive that I speak
of is created by exchange. It is not a physical disk. I would have
already done that if I could figure out how to get exchange to put it on the
new drive.

Hi
guys,
I am still getting
out of disk space errors that shut down exchange. It's a win2k sp2
exch2k sp1. here is the error:
Source:

Category: Content EngineEvent ID:

Message processing failed because
there is not enough available diskspace (8004010D-82000374).
I have checked the
KB and Technet till my eyes are about to fall out. All it says is
delete some files to make more space. This is a small system by
comparison about 50 users and mailboxes with public folders. The
storage container is about 3 gigs and the drive that exchange seems to
create is 5 gigs.A check of the drives free space before a
reboot is less than a 100k. After reboot it's almost 2 gigs.
There is nothing on this drive to delete. If it need to be bigger I
haven't figured out how to increase it's size. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. The hair on the top of my head is thin and
getting thinner by the minute.

Yeah what's it mean to you. Obviously you
don't live or work in the real world. The one where your customers don't
buythe latest greatesteverything as soon as it comes out. Not
everybody can afford multi processor rigs withhardware raid and the
like. It must be nice to be able to sit back and say no I won't help you
and I won't take your pay because your system isn't cool enough for me to waste
my time on. As far as I can see the only piece of equipment that is
not on the HCL is the onboard NIC that was disabled in the BIOS. Yes I ran
the Hardware Qualifier after the guy who started the install walked away shaking
his head wondering why he couldn't get it on the
network.

PS If your going to try and attack people on
the list,at least use a bit of wit. If you have any.
