It is with a broken heart that I am posting to say that Spanky lost his battle with FELV and lymphoma on New Year's eve day. He had a seizure earlier in the week after taking an appetite stimulant and things went downhill this past week and his phosphorous was so low the vet said they had never seen a cat with low phos like this, and he developed severe non-regenerative anemia. His type of lymphoma was fast growing and he wasn't able to have a chemo treatment for weeks either. Thank you so much to everyone on this list, your kitties, your angels for all the help and support and love you've shown to us. You were an absolutely wonderful support network. Without this group we wouldn't have tried the LCTI imulan, interferon or the many supplements we learned about like Transfer factor etc. I wish all of you the best in 2011 and beyond and will purray your furbabies stay as healthy as they possibly can. We send purrayers and healing thoughts to all of you. There was a yard cat but they only saw eachother through the window.? About a year after getting Stormy, I decided to go back to school to finish my degree.? I was already working full time, so this meant poor little Stormy would be alone much of the time.? In a move that is the *only* time I've sought out a cat (they usually just come to me, as Stormy had) I went to the local shelter and adopted a kitten about 12 wks. old.? I brought him home and said, Look Stormy -- I got you a friend! Hiss, spit, growl, fur on end, very unhappy cat.? Oops.? I don't think she ever quite forgave me... From this I came to the conclusion that humans are social and cats are solitary.? That's undoubtedly not an absolute in either case, but generally speaking, I think most cats would prefer to be the only. ps -- Stormy now shares the house with three others, all came to me out of their need.? She's a little pissy sometimes, but I let her know she's queen and let the others know they are to give her utmost respect (she's the elder puss) and she's adjusted very well. I was asking for suggestions on how to get my FLV cat, Chloe, to eat. Very sadly, she passed away early yesterday morning. I wish I had found this group earlier, but from the time she started feeling droopy to the time she passed away was just three weeks - way too fast. Anyway, can anyone tell me what I need to do, if anything, to her cat tree, cat tunnel, litter box, toys, etc. before I pass them on to another home? I have read that the virus does not live long outside of the body, but have also read that a person should wait 30 days before introducing another cat in the home - leaving me to believe that perhaps her things may still have enough of the virus on them to get other cats sick. That is the last thing I'd want. Does anyone have any suggestions? ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
[Felvtalk] Help.. need advice on fleas
Hi, I saw your post and felv. My cat Cheshire recently passed, she developed leukemia, she had a lump on her neck. She was anemic and wasn't gettign enough Oxygen in her system. I got so many wonderful replies of condolences on here. One of the things I wondered was whether the revolution flea product I had applied on her 6 weeks before she passed somehow weakened her immune system or made her sick. I rarely applied flea product on her, since she only went out on the deck. She had had revolution treatments a couple of years ago when she had fleas but was fine then except for her asthma, My other non-felv cat goes out. Anyway, it was jsut one of the things I've wrestled with. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org

[Felvtalk] My cat Cheshire crossing over
My sweet, beautiful little Cheshire crossed the rainbow bridge last Wednesday night. She had only been sick for less than 10 days. She was on antibiotics and some pred for 10 days for gum problems. I was going to schedule her for a cleaning in a few weeks, but her health seemed to decline a few days after that. She started hiding under the bed, and not eating, when seh came out, I saw a growth on her throat area, adn took her to the vet. They weren't sure if it was a abcess or worse. I took her back seveveral times over the course of 6 days, she had to be given fluids through IV, and I syringe fed her. I've never been through anything like this before. I was praying for her. On wednesday they told me they couldn't do surgery to remove the cyst 'cause she was so anemic and her blood count was so low, it looked like she had leukemia. The only thing to do was bring her home or try to get her more help at the vet hospial where they have cancer specialists for a transfusion. I brought her there. They had an extensive list of treatment for her, and costs. It was stressful. I gave them permission for treatment and a deposit before they could do anything. They told me she started to go into distress when put in the Oxygen tank and tube, I wanted them to do whatver they could to help her, and Cheshire blinked at me when I was in the room with her right next to her. She wasn't really blinking before that as whe had a tube in her mouth that was helping her breath. This was so painful for me. Her heart gave out, and that's how she went. I don't know if anyone on here has been through anything like this, but I've wondered if by brining her to that hospital and trhing to get here more help to stabilize her for a transfusion caused her more distresss that lead to her passing? I've talked to the doctors who told me no, that didn't do it, she was just very sick,a nd even if i'd brought her home, she would haev onyl survived a few days or 24 hours. I even had jsut bought the Mega C plus which I had heard good things about reversing felv. I told her how much I love her and she knows that until I see her again. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
[Felvtalk] MegaC plus
Hi Fernanda, I may have missed the post regarding info about the MEgaC plus you're referring to here. I'm so glad for you and your kitty! Where do you get this product? thanks, Claudia Message: 1 Date: Tue, 17 Aug 2010 10:19:42 -0700 From: Fernanda Barreto fbarret...@hotmail.com To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] FeLV Re-testing for kittens/Tommy Update Message-ID: bay126-w298f295d514d986a02b59d4...@phx.gbl Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 I have been meaning to send out this update, but now it's in direct response to Paola's question. I wrote in a few weeks ago to get some advise on an FeLV positive kitten I had found in the middle of the street. Even knowing that he may not be around for long (the vet wanted to put him to sleep the day I found him) my boyfriend and I quickly fell in love with him and named him Tommy. After several hours of internet research, we decided to start giving him Mega C in hopes that it would boost his immune system enough to help him fight off the virus; at the very least, it couldn't hurt. After several weeks, we took Tommy to a different vet to be re-tested. This vet recommended sending the blood work to the lab, where they could do confirmatory tests if needed. We were ecstatic when she called to tell us that he is now testing negative; even she sounded surprised. The vet recommended that we get him tested again in a few weeks, just to make sure. I'm not sure if the Mega C made a difference or not, but we will continue giving it to him. The Mega C was not that expensive and it comes in a huge container that should last us quite a while. Even though we are still cautious, we are so happy that Tommy may have beaten this. When I found him, Tommy was tiny and starving to death - his eyes were not dilating properly, he couldn't walk without falling, he was failing to thrive. However, with regular meals, love and attention, he has grown to be a healthy, and quite mischievous, kitten. In the 6 weeks that he has been with us, he went from a pound and a half, to a full four pounds! Thank you for all the information you gave so freely. I know that many more kittens will benefit from your collective knowledge and care. Re: [Felvtalk] Linda, FELV kitty Felvtalk Digest, Vol 20, Issue 21
This is for Linda Gata, I also have an FELV kitty who is 3 and liek you with your cat, she's been with me also since about Sept. '06. She was very feral, and came looking for food I guess when I used to feed some outdoor cats in the area. She was just a baby when I first saw her, but strong and could run fast. I intended on bringing her to a now-kill shelter at first, then they found she was FELV+, and there was a specific shelter I was in contact with since I have another cat who is in complete heatlh. But she became attached to me, and me to her, and I made progress with her, she wouldn't come within 5 feet of me in the beginning. I thought it could work if I just keep my 2 cats separated. My first cat, who is male, and a year and a half older was vaccinated when he was a kitten, and has received another shot and checkups since. I don't think it's as transmittable as some people think. In fact, I've read some other posts on here from people who've had FELV cats, and some of them live as long as non-FELV healthy cats, even along with other household cats not becoming positive. I was really glad and relieved to read these. But, it's important they they don't use the same litter box or food bowls, and get them regular checkups. There is an immune booster I can't remember the name of, but that I'd like to use on my cat, you said you use one on your Felv+ kitty - Can you tell me what the name is? Thanks and I hope you keep your kitty - he sounds so sweet, even more personalble than some domesticated cats. People think feral cats can't be socialized, well, I would call him rubbing his head against yours pretty social!
