[Finale] controlling the Selection Tool
Is there some trick I am missing having to do with how to control Selection Tool behavior? When I am doing editing work that involves a lot of moving elements selected with the tool, the dialog box associated with the expression (for instance) will appear before I can move the expression. Then I have to cancel the box to close it and try again, and again, and again. Sometimes this happens several times before I can either get a grip on the expression or resort to using the arrow keys to nudge it into the required position (OK sometimes, but not quick, when many nudges are needed). Similar behavior occurs with the measure tool when moving bar lines to adjust spacing. I have simply accepted this as one of the shortcomings of Finale, but I am now working on a large piece, and it's getting annoying and wasting a lot of time. I have tried waiting after highlighting the handle - hoping to allow the computer to catch up with me, but that doesn't often work. (I have a reasonable fast system - Mac G5 with plenty of RAM, but not an Intel processor, if that makes any difference.) Any ideas? Off the top of my head, sounds to me like a mouse issue, not a Finale issue. It sounds like there's a short in your mouse which is sending a double-click rather than a click. Does this happen to you in other applications? If you go to move a file icon on your desktop, for example, do you find that the file opens before you can move it? I have an older mouse and it sometimes gives me accidental double-clicks. You mentioned a handle appearing. There shouldn't be a handle appearing on an expression after only one click. The item should simply get selected. Handles should only appear after a double-click, which also selects the tool that created the item. Re: [Finale] controlling the Selection Tool
Aaron and Christopher, Maybe it is my double click setting in System Prefs. I will adjust that and see if it helps. Thank you both.
