re: King Herald
This message is from: "Dianna Saleh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> We have a King Herald grand-daughter, Ingrid III (a Leif daughter). She is also extremely sweet and loving and very tolerant and gentle. She has a dark, very pretty face. Her yearling son in also very sweet and gentle. Sort of the classic Fjord nature multiplied. So it seems that sweetness is pretty dominant in his offspring. Re: Draft show, again
This message is from: "Dianna Saleh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I heard today that Ed Johnson's Fjord, Anvil's Hartvik (spelling?) took Reserve Champion last night, too. His wife, Sharon's gelding also placed in halter. They bought both Fjords from Nancy's Fjordhorses. I'm pretty happy for them. I THINK this was their first try at showing their horses.
Re: Draft Show in Durango
This message is from: "Dianna Saleh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I just came back from dropping in on the La Plata County Fair Draft Horse and Mule Show, in Durango, Colorado, tonight. I was very happy to see 5-6 Fjords competing and doing very well. A Fjord gelding owned by Ed Johnson in Pagosa Springs received the blue ribbon in the gelding halter class. All the Fjords were very nice horses and it was rewarding to hear the announcer repeatedly extol the virtues of the Norwegian Fjordhorse. I was too busy looking at the Fjords out back and visiting with owners to see how they all placed, but there were also nice horses owned by Aaron Taylor also in the Durango area. re: potluck
This message is from: "Dianna Saleh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I'm going the show in Libby, just myself (not bringing horses,) and would like to be part of a list potluck. I'm really looking forward to seeing so many of the horses that I've only heard about... and their people. Dianna Saleh Fawn Creek Fjordhorses Colorado
another baby
This message is from: "Dianna Saleh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Our Guri had a baby boy yesterday afternoon. He was 12 days early. I'd checked Guri before going into town, no signs of anything. When I got back a couple hours later at 6:30 the two of them were walking around the pasture together. The baby is a Hostar Grandson with a beautiful face and so far very friendly and sweet. I guess that makes 14 "potato chips" for us so far. No more 'til next year. I've really enjoyed all the color information. Thanks to all! I'd sure like to know if anyone knows anything about when The Thirteenth Warrior will be released and if it will show much of the Fjord horses. By the way, we're at 6900 ft. elevation, by Durango, Colorado. I don't think the altitude bothers the horses. Dianna
new baby
This message is from: "Dianna Saleh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> My mare Siri (Siri II) had her baby right on her due date (Sunday). I figured that would be the one day NOT to expect a baby. We had turned her out on the lawn the "mow" it a little. She laid down about 4:35 in the sunny afternoon. I called our 5 kids out to watch. Her filly was completely born five minutes later and standing 10 minutes after that. Siri was eating grass until she laid down and starting grazing again as soon as she finished cleaning up her baby. I had been waiting for her to lose interest in food a little first like my Morgan did last summer. I tested her milk 24 hours earlier with the calcium test strips. Her clear milk tested high in calcium. It tested the same as the 2% milk from the fridge. I don't think I'll test the other mares. I wonder if it's not a good idea to be expressing milk from a pregnant mare anyway. Dianna
calcium test strips
This message is from: "Dianna Saleh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Awhile ago someone was trying to find out where they could get test strips for checking calcium levels in the mare's milk to help determine foaling time. I found some at Nasco 1-800-558-9595 for $10/per 50 strips, cat. #SB27488. It took about 6 days to get them. I have a Fjord mare, Siri, due in three days and will try to figure out how or if they work for that. I've heard it said that color of the milk will tell as much, which seemed to be the case with my Morgan mare last summer. Dianna
Carol and bloodlines
This message is from: "Dianna Saleh" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Re: Carol and bloodlines. I'd like to say that I find everything Carol has to say very interesting. I'd love to hear more. I e-mailed her and told her I'd like it if she'd write a book about Fjord bloodlines. Maybe I'd be the only one to read it, but I'd probably wear it out just like her other book. I think even if the day comes that I know as much as she does there will still be something to learn. I also enjoy hearing people talk about the horses they love. I think she is honestly expressing how she feels and isn't trying to deceive anyone. Just as we're proud when our children accomplish good things we can also be when our horses go on to accomplish good things, whatever they may be. I was glad to share in her joy.
