[Flexradio] 600 meter transverter?
Since we may get 600 meters someday in the future is there any chance that Flex might make a transverter for that band? Or even a Lowfer transverter? [Flexradio] Flex 5k got very hot
Today talking on 6m SSB and using 100 watts my Flex 5k got hot to the point were the VOX stopped working, wondering what was wrong I used the PTT to find the radio was only doing 35 watts at this time . I will say I was very long winded in the QSO but not so much as if I were working the June VHF contest. I checked the fan and my SWR is 1:2 to 1 I could not remember what ALT + key to use to give me the radio Voltage and Temp , would someone please en form me . After today I'm wishing the Temp was on the PSDR consol full time. Is their something I need to check to keep the radio for getting so hot? Is an extra fan needed when using 6m? and yes The vent holes are correct per the pictures on the Flex home page Thanks Ed ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

Ed, Ctrl-Shift-I brings up the Temperature/Voltage display. I also wish that there was an option to have that window displayed at all times. Re: [Flexradio] Flex 5k got very hot
the radio should never get hot running ssb.. a bit more on cw, and very likely more on the high duty cycle modes.. like jt65 or other constant key down full power modes.. the radio has been tested for hours straight at max power output. The average output power on ssb should only around 30 watts.. the radio should not even be breaking a sweat.. w9Ray Ed Stallman wrote: Today talking on 6m SSB and using 100 watts my Flex 5k got hot to the point were the VOX stopped working, wondering what was wrong I used the PTT to find the radio was only doing 35 watts at this time . Re: [Flexradio] 600 meter transverter?
Zack, There are some customers using the FLEX-5000 on 600m with experimental licenses now. It requires the use of the transverter port with external low pass filtering and PA for 600m. The internal PA will not work on 600m but the receiver and exciter will. Are you sure it was a thermal shut down? I don't think you can get it that warm on SSB unless the fan is not spinning at all, in which case you would not feel the heated air egressing out the back of the radio. -Tim -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Ed Stallman Sent: Tuesday, May 18, 2010 5:16 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] Flex 5k got very hot Today talking on 6m SSB and using 100 watts my Flex 5k got hot to the point were the VOX stopped working, wondering what was wrong I used the PTT to find the radio was only doing 35 watts at this time . OK, I'm back from Dayton, and went to all the FLEX demos. I've had my 3000 for about 9 months, running fine on a Dell laptop with WIN7 32bit. Today, I installed VAC 4.10.0.2536 according to the instructions on the Flex web site. It seemed to install correctly, shows what it should when I fire up PSDR 1.18.5. I then tried to setup DM780 according to the instructions. Seemed to take all the settings. However, on the WATERFALL in DM780, I get about 2 sec. of waterfall, then blank space for about 5 sec. So I tried PK31 Deluxe 4.0, set it up. And I get the same 2 sec of waterfall, then blank space. I tried adjusting the rec vol and inputs, did not change the amount of waterfall or blank space. Re: [Flexradio] Downloads not working?
If you had been on FlexEdge, you would have the answer. :-) I recommend joining, it only takes a second. To sign up for the FlexEdge Reflector, use the FlexEdge Reflector User Management web page (http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexedge_flex-radio.biz) and go to the Subscribing to FlexEdge section. The skins are copyrighted material of FlexRadio Systems and are bound by a different license agreement than PowerSDR which is GPL v2. The previous installers used for beta testing have been removed from the public domain in preparation of the upcoming official public beta of PowerSDR v2.0.0 which has the correct license agreements for both open and closed source software in addition to all the skins. Unfortunately you are in the limbo zone between alpha and beta software, so you'll have to be patient for a few days until PowerSDR v2.0.0 Beta is released. -Tim --- W4TME FlexRadio Systems - Info Management Admin. Re: [Flexradio] Flex 5k got very hot
Hello Tim and all , I did put my hand on the top and side plus put my hand next to the vent in the back , all felt hot . at the time this happened my Internet was out so didn't know how to bring up the Voltage / Temp window to see what the Temp was! I was on SSB at the time and like I said the VOX quiet working , then using PTT and a CW tone the radio was doing 35 watts . I then tested in CW every few minutes and watched the power slowly go back to 100 watts . after ten minutes VOX and Power was fine . I've had the Volt / Temp window up now for the past 4 hours , with out me Xmitting the Temp is steady at 32C Hear is how I have the Mic set , let me know if you think it's set to high.. Using the Heil pr781 , I have DX set to 4, Under TX meter I set to Mic and adjust the Mic gain close to zero . I do use the EQ to give me some DX high's ... after adjusting the EQ I go back and re adjust the Mic gain to zero again. under setup / TX I'm set at 300 and 3000 With these settings and Drive set to 100 watts , when I speak in the Mic the power meter go to 70 to 80 watts ... seams high to me? I've used the radio like this the past 2.5 year, today is the first time I was this long winded , still not using it as much as if I were contesting.. I'm just saying Anyway , let me know about the Mic Gain? Also can someone tell me if the VOX will quiet working if the radio go's into thermal shut down? How can I find out if the radio is set at the correct Bias ? Thanks Ed At 05:42 PM 5/18/2010, Tim Ellison wrote: Are you sure it was a thermal shut down?
