I like Dale's idea of a separate preamp in the Rx1 in/out line but I already have the much needed 6M preamp in that line. I've been experimenting with small receiving loops on 80m and 40m and of course the preamp works fine in both instances, but I also plan to build a loop for 160m, and will build an external stand-alone preamp which will be placed into the RX1- In/Out loop along with the loop itself. The RX loop is very convenient since the T/R switching is handled for you, and you won't have to be concerned about further protecting an external preamp. 73, Dale WA8SRA Trevor Smithers wrote: > Have just upgraded my 5000 to the latest drivers and 1.14.0 and all appears to be well. > However I see in the release notes > >> Fixed a bug where the FLEX-5000 preamp would not behave properly >> below 2 MHz >> > > Is there still a problem with the preamp on 160 - its still not > available below 2 MHz hereor have I missed something in the setup somewhere. > > Flex 5000 > PSDR 1.14.0 > FW driver 3.2.0.1556 > Firmware 1.2.1.10 > XP pro > > 73 to all > Trevor G0KTN > > ___ > FlexRadio Systems Mailing List > FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz > http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz > Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ > Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: > http://www.flex-radio.com/ > > > ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

Have just upgraded my 5000 to the latest drivers and 1.14.0 and all appears to be well. However I see in the release notes >Fixed a bug where the FLEX-5000 preamp would not behave properly below 2 MHz Is there still a problem with the preamp on 160 - its still not available below 2 MHz hereor have I missed something in the setup somewhere. Re: [Flexradio] 160 preamp
David, The preamp has a fairly steep roll off before the 160 meter band. During beta testing, we found using the preamp on 160 actually made reception worse. This is why you can not select the preamp for 160 meters. Gerald can give you a better technical answer than I on exactly what the characteristics of the preamp are. -Tim -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of David Cole Sent: Saturday, November 03, 2007 4:59 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] 160 preamp 160 Receive Pre-amp - I wish to have the option to switch the receive pre-amp on on 160 at the moment this is grayed out.
