The back order situation should be resolved by May 1. It was a
combination of higher than foretasted sales and some component
procurement challenges by our contract manufacturer that caused the
"rolling" back order situation. We will have plenty of FLEX-5000s,
FLEX-3000s and FLEX-5000 available for shipment to fulfill the orders
taken at Dayton.

I hope so. I love my Flex very much, and it is nice to get a "new" radio
whenever the software is updated, but I'd really like Flex to make a machine
aimed for the mainstream - the 5000c is almost that machine.

Then again, maybe they do not really want to compete with the "big 3". Hmmm...

Is Flex going to have the 100 Watt amplifiers for the SDR-1000
available at Dayton? While we are at it how about the Edirol Sound cards?

Re: [Flexradio] Dayton specials?

2007-04-19 Thread John P Basilotto W5GI
The warranty will extend from the end of the original 1 year period for
anyone who purchased a SDR1k for whom we have a sales record or other proof
of purchase, for example the original invoice.

WE will deal with modifications on a case by case basis; however, if it
isn't an approved FRS modification it will most likely void the warranty.

The good news is that we get very few radios in for repair. We currently
have none waiting for service and our turn around is normally less than a
week.

A little clarification please!

"current SDR1K" are you referring to present owners of SDR1000 that
are still in warranty?

As an example I'll use myself, I purchased my SDR1000 during Dayton
last year so it's still under warranty (not for long), will I have an
extra year? Or are you referring to new purchases on the remaining
SDR1000's?

Second issue "provided their radio hasn't been modified" would
modification include lets say improving the +- 15 supply filter to
eliminate noise in the radio? I'm curious because on my radio that
problem was fairly serious.

I'm surprised that a new box didn't come out long ago. The original
design with the 3 board and later 4 board stack design is several years
old. Try buying the same motherboard for your last years computer. It
can't be done.

Value: I think the SDR-1000 is still worth every penny that Flex asks
for it. Gerald has offered a tremendous bargain with his system. He
has transformed ham radio for the techno players like me.
As a Professional Engineer (electrical) I have seen many small companies
come and go over the years and I root for Flex to survive and grow. To
do this Flex has to introduce new products and move into the main stream
"Fancy Box" end of the business to increase the customer base.

I feel some of your pain as I too have in the past bought a gadget only
to have the new one come out a few weeks later. Note in this case that
the new Flex 5000 is considerably more expensive than the SDR1000 so I
can't fault Flex on the introduction without warning. The SDR1000 will
retain its value as only a few thousand have been produced and the
continual upgrades of the software will help it retain its worth. Can
the same be said for the KenYaeComs?

"Progress is our most important product" was the GE slogan for years. I
always said Profit came before Progress so you can be here next year.
GE has been very profitable. May Flex follow too.

Alan,

I think a special deal should be given to Flex1000 owners.

I bought mine the 1st of Feb., 2007, and now the Flex5000 is out.
How do you think I feel..did NOT know the 5000 was even a dream.

WE are the ones who believed in FLEX and no deals coming our way !

Food for thought.

The FLEX-5000 is already priced for Dayton. There may be a special on the

You will spend ALL your time messing with the weird, wild, wonderous

Subject: [Flexradio] Dayton?

It looks like I will be in San Francisco for work during the week
leading up to Dayton so I was thinking of flying back to the UK via
Dayton and spending a couple of days there.

Are there any plans for anyone getting together over lunch/dinner/drinks
during Dayton?

I think I saw that there was going to be a Flex-Radio stand and
presentation.

Phil,

Sorry to hear about the late breaking work. Was looking forward to

right about the "cool" factor of being able to remotely log in and
participate in the usergroup activities. That was right on the
cutting edge. Now if we could have only found some better lighting.
We'll have to work on that for next year. ;)

Hi Eric,

It sounds like the show was a great success. Unfortunately I had a
work related problem that I had to no choice but to attend to so I
wasn't able to make it to the show. (I should have turned off my

Saturday night. It was pretty cool to be able to "tune" in that way.
I ended up giving my tickets to a friend who attended. Hopefully I
