Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
Hi Charles, Yes she hears the Basilisk through the walls but if I really did that with the GMA engine, you would be able to hear everything through walls including magical objects. I think an earlier version of SOD allowed you to detect objects through walls and that was very confusing because you could detect an object 6 feet away but there was a wall in the way. I do not want that confusion so I turned listening through walls to off. One exception is creatures which can be detected through walls as a sound effect, which I think of as you hearing them move or talk in the next room. phil - Original Message - From: "Charles Rivard" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 11:21 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! > If Sarah were a parcel tongue, wouldn't she hear it, as Harry heard it > through the walls? > > - Original Message - > From: "Phil Vlasak" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Gamers Discussion list" > Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 3:45 PM > Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! > > >> Hi Carl, >> The trouble is if I had the basilisk travel only through the walls you >> would >> not hear it. >> I had to have it wander through the corridors but you can not affect it >> and >> it does not notice you. >> I think of the d key as detecting something either by sound or sight so >> in >> the basilisks case it would be the sound. >> Phil >> >> - Original Message - >> From: "Karl" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >> To: >> Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 3:32 PM >> Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! >> >> >>> Hi, >>> I can see the basilisk on other floors if it is the closest. Hi Carl, The trouble is if I had the basilisk travel only through the walls you would not hear it. I had to have it wander through the corridors but you can not affect it and it does not notice you. I think of the d key as detecting something either by sound or sight so in the basilisks case it would be the sound. Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
Hi Nicol, I think your missing the point. The point is Sarah doesn't know what creature it is she saw. Bogarts tend to take the shape of something you fear and it is hard to detect unless you invoke the rediculous spell on it. If Sarah does not see that it is a Bogart why should you? Remember pressing d is seeing what Sarah sees with her eyes. She is describing what she sees to you not necessarily what the item truly is. nicol wrote: > Sigh< > Once again my point is: if it was another creature then my d key would have > told me so. > If it was a puzzle that I have to solve, then the patronous charm wouldn't > took care of the creature. > But because I so easily scared the creature away with a patronous charm > means its not a puzzle. > And charles your understanding of the word spoiler is incorrect. Hi Nicol, Both the spells work because even though it is one creature it is acting and looking like another. The d key is supposed to indicate in most cases what Sarah sees. Of course the flaw in this function is the she does not see the Basilisk until she reaches the chamber of secrets for spoiler space it is traveling through the pipes of the castle. - Original Message - From: "nicol" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 2:00 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! > thanks phil. > But I didn't use the ridiculous spell on it, I used a patronous charm and > it > went away. > > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Behalf Of Phil Vlasak > Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 2:08 AM > To: Gamers Discussion list > Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! > > Hi Nicol, > This is one reason that reading the Harry Potter books would allow you to > understand what is going on and what to do about it. > In book three Harry encounters a similar situation in the staff room. > I do not want to give away the answer until, > you, > read, > this, > space, > so, > those, > who, > do, > not, > want, > the., > answer, > can, > stop, > reading. > Harry encounters a Boggart in the staff room that was hiding in a closet. > A Boggart is a shape shifting creature that takes the shape of what your > are > afraid of. > In both Harry and Sarah's case the Boggart looks like a Dementor. > Since Sarah thinks it is a Dementor I did not want to give away what it > really is. > In the book Harry used the ridiculous spell to chase the Boggart away and > so > can Sarah. > So it is not a bug but a deliberate part of the game. > > Phil > > > > ___ > Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
Boggart, with a T, not a D. That's why the Riddikulus charm works on them. The thing that finishes a Boggart is laughter. You think of whatever it is you fear, then think of a way to make it look funny. Then when you cast the Riddikulus charm ou in effect force the Boggart to assume the comical shape you created. So if Sarah feared a Dementor she might have imagined it tripping over its cloak and falling flat on its face. If her mind was strong enough that's exactly what would happen when she cast the spell. And if you hita Boggart enough with the Riddikulus charm, your gales of hysterical laughter will kill it. It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go. J.D. This is a big spoiler but it doesn't change a lot, anyway. s p o i l e r s p a c e Hi, I don't know if you read the HP books, and if so, how carefully, but there is a creature called buggard (sorry for the misspelling). It usually hides in small, dark and closed places such as wardrobes or desks, but when someone opens their hideout and forces them to go out, they immediately take the shape of what the one facing them fears the most. So if you were scared to death of bees and you opened a wardrobe with a buggard in it, a big, evil and angry bee would fly out, attacking you right away. In the books Harry was most feared of dementors as they in fact resemble an esence of fear. They are hope suckers, they take away all your happyness, faith and happy memories, and finally, your soul if given the opportunity. So I guess Phil made Sarah feel the same about dementors. ;) The only known way to defeat a buggard is to use the ridiculus spell which will force him to look comical, as you can find out by listening to the spel description in the spell list. So if you step up to the cabinet and cast the ridiculus spell, you'll hear that it's really a buggard. HOwever, be careful - if you haven't opened the cabinet before, the buggard in the shape of a dementor will still appear. In fact, I believe the fake dementor comes out of the cabinet whenever you open it, as the buggard is still alive. I don't know if there's supposed to be a way to kill him definitely, at least I haven't found it yet. Even casting the ridiculus spell repetitively will do him no harm. Hope this helps, Lukas - Original Message - From: "nicol" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2007 11:49 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! > Well, it makes the sound of a dementor because there is a sound of a > dementor in learn game sounds and that sound is exactly the same as the > creature that appears if you open the golden cabinet. > Also d tells you dementor. > > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Behalf Of Karl > Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 12:08 AM > To: gamers@audyssey.org > Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! > > Oh no, that's no bug. > S > P > O > I > L > E > R > That's not really a dementor either. Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
Hi Nicol, This is one reason that reading the Harry Potter books would allow you to understand what is going on and what to do about it. In book three Harry encounters a similar situation in the staff room. I do not want to give away the answer until, you, read, this, space, so, those, who, do, not, want, the., answer, can, stop, reading. Harry encounters a Boggart in the staff room that was hiding in a closet. A Boggart is a shape shifting creature that takes the shape of what your are afraid of. In both Harry and Sarah's case the Boggart looks like a Dementor. Since Sarah thinks it is a Dementor I did not want to give away what it really is. In the book Harry used the ridiculous spell to chase the Boggart away and so can Sarah. So it is not a bug but a deliberate part of the game. Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
Hi Nicol, The difference between the dementor on the easy and hard difficulties is after you scare him away, if you re-open the cavanet he will come back. same is the hard level, but you get to see the dementor in the basement, which is before opening the cavanet. What actually is happening, is when you open up the cavinet, the dementor is teleported into the staffroom from nowhere. - Original Message - From: "nicol" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2007 1:48 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! > Ok the dementor wasn't difficult to scare away at all. Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
My final offer of help on this one has info that may be considered a s p o i l e r s p a c e or it may not. I hope it helps. Here's my answer to your post: I have read the book, and I know the answer. It is not a dementor. It could be a spider, it could be a banchee, it could be a mummy. Sarah fears a dementor, so that's what it is to Sarah. The spell used to defeat this creature is different than the spell used to defeat a dementor. Think of it this way: I am not the only list member who has given you spoilers, and we all agree. What does that tell you? It should tell you that we might be right. It is not a dementor. It is a puzzle in the game that you have not figured out yet, that's all. Spoilers have been given. Thanks. - Original Message - From: "nicol" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2007 5:25 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! > No no no the manual isn't correct. Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
But then why does my d key say dementor? That's my whole point. Then the d key should give that creature's name if it isn't a dementor. The manual says that the dementor is the only creature that takes all sarah's magical energy away with akiss. I heard that kissing sound clearly, I heard it very clearly. It, was, definitely, a,kiss. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Liam Erven Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 12:00 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! s p o i l e r it's not a dementor, but.. it is. unfortunately, it's something you wouldn't know if you didn't read the books. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
No no no the manual isn't correct. If the manual was correct, then the dementor wouldn't show up. Charles, everything is there about the dementor. The sound it makes, the d key sayhs dementor and it kisses sarah, so it is a dementor. There's no other hp creature that gives sarah a death kiss, so then there is somewhere a problem either in the manual or in the game.. It is the dementor because everything about him is what I heard when I opened the golden cabinet. If it wasn't the dementor then he would have killed sarah in another way, not with a kiss. Do yourself a favor and go into the staff room, right? Open the golden cabinetg, right? Now hit f6, right? Move with down arrow till you get to the dementor sound, right? Listen to it, right? Now exit learn games sounds and listen to the sound of the creature, right? It sounds the same, right? Press d. what does it tell you? Dementor, right? So it's a dementor, nobody else. Walk up to it until sarah screams and you will hear it kisses her so its nobody else than the dementor. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Charles Rivard Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2007 12:01 AM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!! Well, it makes the sound of a dementor because there is a sound of a dementor in learn game sounds and that sound is exactly the same as the creature that appears if you open the golden cabinet. Ok the dementor wasn't difficult to scare away at all. I just casted a patronous charm and off he went.
