Actually when you buy it there is not much that you can get like most
other demos of first person style games, for I have played this game
before and it does not sound like something you want to buy, though I
did discover a handicapped option option in the menu thaw twas not
available in the demo.

It is actually attained in Raul's audio walk-through of the game. It's been
a while since I've listened to it, so I don't remember for sure, but I think
he back tracked to and rejumped the first pit and did something else while
doing that in order to trigger the bonus. That seems close, anyway.

I will admit that I really don't like copywright law. It's really odd
and so convoluted that most lawyers don't get it.
still, I think it makes sense, in the sense that there's a specific
and definite impetus for the games that can be pointed to, without
paying royalties.

Hi there.
What country are you from?
It seems to me that you are not from the United States.
If you are from one of the European countries, my recommendation is to
ask questions in the forums because basketsim has many European
players.
As matches are concerned, you have to play around with the combo boxes
to set your line up correctly.
For the tactics, read the manual and experiment because I can not tell
you what your team's strengths and weaknesses are.
Cheers,
Maranatha!

[Audyssey] analog Weapons system

2011-05-03 Thread The Addictor
Hey Tom,
any chance you'll consider adding an analog weapons system to the game? I had
several ideas on this.
First, I personally tend to use my fists more than any other weapon--they get
the job done just as well for me. I was thinking that you could add a stamina
counter that goes down the harder you fight, the longer you run, etc. So to
deliver a light punch, you would hold space down for a fraction of a second,
and to give a heavy punch hold it down longer. The heavier the punch, the
bigger the drain on the stamina, but one heavy punch would be more effective
than five light ones. If you include dexterity later on, it could take out dex
points if Angela's not wearing gauntlets or gloves. This would require
judgment again, as a skeleton might only need two light punches, where it might
take a heavy punch to knock out a minotaur.
the same could be true if she swings a sword. Also, if she has any type of
powered weapon, the longer the button is held down the bigger the charge. What
are your thoughts on this?

[Audyssey] Need cordless headset info.

2011-05-03 Thread Ron Kolesar
To my fellow gamers.
A while back there was a discussion on a cordless headset.
I'm looking for a cordless headset with a microphone boom microphone with a
mute button.
As a plus but not seriously needed, but as a extra feature, would like to
have the unit surround sound speakers in the headset.
Between the corded USB USB headset mic and the new f510 corded USB
controller. I'm getting tangled in all of the cables.
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Many Many Thanks.
Ron and that four pawed game cheater Boz who said that having four paws
beats having only two hands any time of the week. SMILES.

[Audyssey] Totally confused!

2011-05-03 Thread Lori Duncan
Ok, I've mastered jumping in Mota now I think, but here's the thing. I jump
that fire and come to a rope, I climbe up it until I hear the ledge to my left
then jump off to the left, hear a lever and activate it. Then comes the
confusion. 1, I can't seem to find any other way out other than dead ends, and
2 each time I leap back off the rope I'm hearing more levers? Oh and I got a
shock at one point when the music changed and fired my gun out of reaction,
that's how elert I am Anyway I'm lost, could someone help to get me
out please? Thanks from Lori.

[Audyssey] Idea for Mota

2011-05-03 Thread Lori Duncan
Hi, just out of interest I thought as it's scansoft Tom doing the voice in Mota
now, what about the real Tom? Would be interesting to know what he sounds
like, couldn't you introduce a talking statue with your voice Tom? "Speak the
correct word and thou shalt pass! Answer wrongly and your soul is mine!" I
just thought it would be an interesting idea.

Re: [Audyssey] Ledge in Mota

2011-05-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

The analog jump system in beta 18 is very sensative. I've fine tuned
this in beta 19, but if Angela grabs a rope you have to let up on the
keys rather quickly or she'll swing off of it onto the floor. Another
issue might be is you are letting up too soon and not jumping quite
far enough to grab it. That's what an analog jump system is all about.
Practice, and llearning on just exactly how long to hold down the keys
or buttons to jump the proper distance.

I realise you probably have little experience with this, but many
classic games such as Super Mario had such a jump system in place
clear back as early as the 1980's. The longer the jump button and
directional cross was held down together the higher and further Mario
could jump. This allowed you, the gamer, to perform a small jump or a
very big jump depending on how far you needed to go just by judging
the length of time etc you held the jump button down.

Re: [Audyssey] Idea for Mota

2011-05-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lori,

Ummm...No, I couldn't really do that. To begin with my actual voice is
terrible. Kind of like a teenager going through puberty where it
cracks and doesn't know if it wants to be high or low. Secondly, and
more importantly, I have muscle/nerve damage to my face so it makes it
very difficult at times to talk and eat, because I don't have full
muscle control over my mouth. As a result I tend to mumble words or
slur them because I'm unable to make my mouth properly form the words.
That's why I don't use my own voice for games etc. I will say its
really frustrating for me to try and talk on the phone, and have a
client, friend, etc ask me to try and repete something because I just
can't say what I want to say too clearly.

If you read the documentation that comes with it, as you should do with any
game, you will find the demo's limitations and what you can do with the full
game. The demo, like any other, is so that you get a general idea of what
the game is like.

Actually when you buy it there is not much that you can get like most
other demos of first person style games, for I have played this game
before and it does not sound like something you want to buy, though I did
discover a handicapped option option in the menu thaw twas not available
in the demo.

It is actually attained in Raul's audio walk-through of the game. It's been
a while since I've listened to it, so I don't remember for sure, but I think
he back tracked to and rejumped the first pit and did something else while
doing that in order to trigger the bonus. That seems close, anyway.

I know what you mean about your voice. Don't know if you have had chance to

[Audyssey] frustrated

2011-05-03 Thread Kim Friedman
I don't know why it is so, but I find vip mud frustrating. First of all,
I probably don't have it set correctly. Second, the text goes by so fast
and I can't even ask any questions about what I'm hearing. How am I
supposed to choose a race for a character if I can't read about it in
the first place? Also, what if you have no idea what sort of name the
damned game is looking for? The tutorials may be dandy but those
commands go by so fast and the screen reads them so quickly that I'm
stuck. I sure wish my Braille display was recognized so I wouldn't have
to rely on the fast-moving, frustrating speech. I can't even ask a
decent question because every time the enter key is pressed, it is
assumed you're giving a command. Help will be appreciated. Believe me,
I'd like to chuck that client out the window if it would do me any good,
which I doubt.

Hi is this a video game you did the voice for? I too hate my accent, I'm
from Scotland uk, but luckily for me my accent isn't broad scotish, I just
sound very shy and sometimes mix up what I'm trying to say and have to get
my tongue out of a tangle Don't worry Thom, you should hear what
I sound like at the moment, my throat is sore and am coughing my brains

Hi Thomas,
I know what you mean about your voice. Don't know if you have had chance
to play River Raiders, but I'm not too impressed with my vocal
performance either. I'm 23 years old and I still think I sound much like
a 15 year old. Add to that I'm from the UK, so my voice sounds much out
of sync with the rest of the available audiogames out there simply
because of my broad yorkshire accent. Smiles.

Hi Alfredo,
There are several things you get with the full version of Ten Pin Alley.
1. You can play all ten frames instead of the last few.
2. The game will remember your score and give you totals on how you are
doing and your average score.

3. You can choose a name to use from over a hundred pre-recorded names.
4. You can add your own name if it isn't in the list, although the procedure
for doing this is a bit cumbersome.
5. You can use the handicapping feature which allows two players of
different skills to play against each other with either having the same
chance of winning.
6. You get to hear the radio and TV commercials that pop up after the fifth
frame.
7. You can support Me and Draconis with the money we get for the game, so we
can continue developing new games.

Phil

Re: [Audyssey] analog Weapons system

2011-05-03 Thread dark
My only issue is ken, personally staminer in that way would just be an
irritating game mechanic to me, sinse what I'd do would be fight with maxed
attacks, then just stand around until i was recovered.

so, all it would add to the game would be more standing around essentially.

while chargeable or otherwise limted weapons have existed the usual method
is slightly different.

for instance in many games (mega man, metroid, gunstar heroes, zelda etc),
tapping an attack button produces a weak attack, while holding for a length
of time then releasing can build up to a stronger attack up to a certain
level, the catch being that while you can constantly throw weak attacks,
strong attacks have charge time so you'll need to dodge around for a bit
before launching one.

some beat em ups employ this principle too.

the basic idea is that you need free time from attacking to produce a
stronger attack, meaning that attack must be accurate, or meaning you must
trade several small attacks for one powerful one.

this is why so many of the mega man zero bosses are particularly hard, sinse
zero fights with a z sabre, a short range sword, and must dodge around with
it charged and maneuver carefully around the boss's attacks to get close
enough to give a powerful hit.

I'm not sure about this in mota, sinse I can't really see how you would
retain physical charge on a sword (ie, stand and prepare for a big swing),
and climb a rope, though it could bee interesting if the mechanics could be
worked out.

Alternatively, using the tap vs press idea, short attacks could be quicker
but weaker, while strong attacks be slower but stronger, so when fighting a
skeleton, many short attacks might despatch it quickly, while a strong enemy
like a centaur might need one heavy blow sinse it'd just shrug off quick
hits and attack you back.

some games have had a method like this one too, for instance several
abilities in kirby superstar, and some of the weapons in gunstar heroes and
Omega boy.

for limiting by staminer or some other measure though which recovered slowly
over time, i'm less certain really for the reason i mentioned.

2011-05-03 Thread dark

Actually, that's a point.

i've been reading mails from the chap for about five years now, but never
heard his voice.

I've heard phil, che and jim on interviews, but not tom? maybe he's
really a growling demon from the pits of hades and doesn't want us to know
it, that would also explain his intensive knolidge of griek
mythology, - though maybe less so his liking for startrek, starwars and

Eitherway, I agree, it'd be rather nice to here his voice in the game.

Re: [Audyssey] Free version tenpin alley?

2011-05-03 Thread dark

not much in Demos of first person games compared to the main game?

I'm a litle confused by that comment Alfredo.

shades of doom, terraformers Gma tank commander and Sarah all have pretty
huge main games compared to what is in the demo, even dynaman and packman
talks stil have a fair amount to offer.

pluss, while the view in ten pin alley could be called first person siinse
the scan of the pins runs infront of you from left to right, this is
probably exaggerating the deffinition slightly, sinse for a start the first
person viewpoint really isn't the games distinguishing feature.

All that being said, I do personally agree.

ten pin alley is one of the Draconis titles I've not bothered buying, sinse
though the game has many features like adding in player names, none really
make a massive difference to the gameplay which is pretty much like crazy
darts when all said and done, though with more ambience.

Maybe this might be different if you had several people at one machine to
play it with, but as a single player game, Ten pin alley for me just wasn't
worth it, and imho Draconis should possibly considder this if they plan on
upgrading the game.

Besides, I found it far too easy to guarantee a strike every go by throwing
at the correct place, which made the game pretty repetitive and might even
make playing with multiple players not much fun.

Then again, I'll admit sports games aren't an interest of mine, so maybe I'm
slightly harsh in characterizing the gameplay of ten pin alley this way.

Beware the Grue!

A shame lori, i think scots accents sound fantastic!

My parents' local accent is nottingham, which is a horrible mix betwene
yorkshire, bermingham and manchester, and sounds really! horrible.

this is one reason I myself have such queens' english pronunciation, I
trained myself out of my local accent at the age of about 17, - that and
going to a university full of slightly upper class people, and of course
doing singing fairly seriously.

Hi Thomas,
I know what you mean about your voice.
Smiles.

I will say its
really frustrating for me to try and talk on the phone, and have a
client, friend, etc ask me to try and repete something because I just
can't say what I want to say too clearly.

be able to do a podcast or something, but doing voice overs for menus,

Re: [Audyssey] analog Weapons system

Hi Ken,

I don't really know. I'm not really sure how something like that could
be implented into the game. The combat system is rather generic in
that you simply name the type of weapon, give it a hit point value,
mmin and max range, and let it go in the engine. It was never designed
with the concept of light vs heavy attacks etc in mind. I'm not sure
how I would go about changing this behavior even if I wanted to.

Hi Thomas,

There is a third option, which will let you maintain the current keyboard
layout. You can first perform a check to see if the ctrl key is pressed, if
this is the case then interrupt the speech. This should obviously be a key
pressed rather than a key down check, so that it only reports true again if
the user releases the key and then pushes it down once more. Then you can
check if the w key is pressed, and if this is the case check if the ctrl key
is down. This is what I do in my upcoming game to solve this issue and it
works very well. Just make strategic use of key down versus key pressed and
there won't be a problem. What will end up happening, of course, is that
speech is first interrupted when the control key is pressed but then
immediately restarted again if w is pressed and control is still down.
However speech won't be interrupted again on the next loop iteration because
control will just be down, but not newly pressed. similarly the status
command won't be restarted over and over again because w has not been newly
pressed either. Using a key pressed rather than a key down check would also
solve the slight quirk where holding down one of the number keys starts a
violent stutter of the weapon name as it gets retriggered on every single
loop iteration.

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Hi is this a video game you did the voice for? I too hate my accent, I'm

Hi Thomas,
I know what you mean about your voice.
Smiles.

Playing any mud with a screenreader requires a good bit of reviewing , and

There are also cool search tools included to help you find what your

david has made it very easy to create aliases, triggers, your own sound

I've used pretty much all the major mud clients the past few years, but

Believe me,
I'd like to chuck that client out the window if it would do me any good,
which I doubt.

sorry but I'm overset and need to vent my feelings. K.

Cheers!

On 5/2/11, The Addictor wrote:

Hey Tom,
any chance you'll consider adding an analog weapons system to the game?
I

had several ideas on this.
First, I personally tend to use my fists more than any other weapon--they
get the job done just as well for me. I was thinking that you could add
a

stamina counter that goes down the harder you fight, the longer you run,
etc. So to deliver a light punch, you would hold space down for a
fraction
of a second, and to give a heavy punch hold it down longer. The heavier
the

punch, the bigger the drain on the stamina, but one heavy punch would be
more effective than five light ones. If you include dexterity later on,
it
could take out dex points if Angela's not wearing gauntlets or gloves.
This

would require judgment again, as a skeleton might only need two light
punches, where it might take a heavy punch to knock out a minotaur.
the same could be true if she swings a sword. Also, if she has any type
of

powered weapon, the longer the button is held down the bigger the charge.
What are your thoughts on this?

Re: [Audyssey] Free version tenpin alley?

2011-05-03 Thread Dakotah Rickard
The trouble is that most companies today, in the mainstream, don't
offer demos of games. THey offer trailors. I love our companies,
because they do offer demos, but for some people, buying the full
version should unlock loads of worlds, new equipment, etc. like in
Shades of Doom.

I think that the comment stems from games like Ten Pin Alley and to an
extent, Entombed, that do not differ in gameplay from demo to full
version, only in content. I value this difference enough to buy
Entombed, and I've considered buying Ten Pin Alley off and on,
although (no criticism intended) I enjoy Wii Sports a little more, and
I already have it.
I've often thought that, should I begin to market games once I'm
proficient enough to make them interesting, I'll offer either a
trailor, a very limited demo, or a timed demo. The first is
self-explanatory, the second is a demo like Shades of Doom, where you
run into one additional weapon and two monsters, and the third option
is like Galaxy Rangers etc.

Ten Pin Alley does rather offer a lot of itself up, but this in no way
makes purchasing the full game unreasonable.

If you get a game demo, you get the idea of the game. Once you buy it, you
unlock it and find that the demo scratched the surface. Phil gave the
benefits of buying Tenpin Alley compared to playing the demo. SOD gives you
the first level of the game. Buy it and you have a heck of a lot more
gaming fun. Tank Commander gives 5 more levels with no time limits. Lone
Wolf's demo gives the first 2 of 17 missions, plus the ability to play
almost 100 others that gamers have created. The demo of MOTA, although
still in testing, gives 2 out of how many levels that will be created? My
point is, a demo is a great way to introduce or showcase a game, and if you
like it, you'll like the full version even more. It's up to the gamer, but
the full version of a demo is usually well worth the money spent.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Free version tenpin alley?

Hi,
Well...the question of which players are the best gets complicated. Realize
that there are five positions on a basketball team: point guard, shooting
guard, small forward, power, forward, and center. Although in real lifethey
are only formalities, in Basketsim it's important you set things correctly.
For example, for a point guard you will want a good passing, quickness, and
defense. I might be able to help you if you send me some info about your
team, but as David said you might be better checking around the basketsim

Hi Tom I actually have a skight lisp sometimes, usually when I get nervous
or panicky, you'd notice it more in a recording than in real life though.

Hi Dark,

Yeah, I do pretty much the same thing when reading e-mails. Since I
don't know what someone souhnds like I tend to associate them with the
voice of some film star, movie character, etc as well. However, as
this topic proves that can be as far from the truth as possible.

As for my own voice I manage. I've learned over the years if I want to
be pretty clear to my audience, such as speaking to a client over the
phone, I will talk a bit slower than usual in order to make my words
clear and not slur them. Like a person who stutters I have to
consciously think about how to say some words in order to make them
loud and clear enough to be understood without repeating them. If i
don't my words will come out with a little lisp or slurring. I might
be able to do a podcast or something, but doing voice overs for menus,
status reports, i don't think would sound too good in a game.

[Audyssey] demo's was: Re: Free version tenpin alley?

2011-05-03 Thread dark

   Hi Dekota.

i'm afraid I disagree completely, my favourite demos are the none limited
time, but limited content ones like shades of doom, entombed, sarah etc.

These allow you as nmuch time as you want to get to grips with the game, and
essentially say "if you like it, have more of this" Which is what a demo
should do.

By giving unlimited time however, they remove the urgency of having to make
a decision or learn to play a complex game quickly. had lone wolf been
limited time, I'd probably not have bought the game simply because it took
me a good while to get the knack of playing, and indeed several times
downloading and trying the demo (especially after people's recommendations).

Lots of games companies now, both indi ones and main stream, are offering
demos when they develope for the pc or other systems, games like dragon age
2 for instance.

of course the hardware restrictions in the past of putting out a single
cartrage or disk for a console made it difficult to show demos, - though
back in the old floppy disk days, magazines with limited content demos (eg,
the first level of a game), were quite common for computers like the amigar
or aple.

that's why even now games like mortal combat 9 are having downloadable demos
on the various virtual console networks or for pc.

As regards trailers, i see trailers as a different purpose to a demo really.

a trailer i always think of more as a showing of best bits and essentially
explosions.

Evil boss dialogue, some cunning tactics etc. However it can never show what
a game is fully like to play.

Monkey business is one of the few games I've slightly regretted buying,
sinse at the time there was no demo, and I went just on Kelly's review.

while this was good for showing the games' sounds and atmosphere, it didn't
show me the problem with the game which i would've learned very quickly with
a demo, the navigation issue.

this is why I personally wrate limited content but unlimited time demos as
my personal favourite option, though of course limited content doesn't
mean half the game, or even a quarter!

Entombed is actually a bit longer than expected I think, chiefly because the
demo covers the same range of floors as the last beta, however I believe if
those beta's hadn't been in the equation, the demo would've only been
perhaps 4 floors, maybe five to show the goblin stronghold entrance, but
certainly not include the goblin king or the drake but save those for the
full version.

Stil, as I said, i think this is more a developement decision on Jason's
part, sinse if the demo had less in than the last beta people would just
play the beta instead.

I'm a litle confused by that comment Alfredo.

shades of doom, terraformers Gma tank commander and Sarah all have pretty

talks stil have a fair amount to offer.

the scan of the pins runs infront of you from left to right, this is
probably exaggerating the deffinition slightly, sinse for a start the

All that being said, I do personally agree.

ten pin alley is one of the Draconis titles I've not bothered buying,
