Q1: did you play a role in causing this child to be born?
Father: absolutely!

Q2: did you then do your bit to ensure that the interests of your child would

Father: absolutely!

Q3: what did you do?
Father: well, I wrote some editorials, published a magazine and poured some

Q4: and with ALL that you did, is your child happy and content today?
Father: well, the journalist in me is still trying to determine that.

[Goanet] Arvind Kejriwal demands SIT probe against Robert Vadra

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Arvind-Kejriwal-demands-SIT-probe-a
gainst-Robert-Vadra/articleshow/16741625.cms

NEW DELHI: Claiming more evidence of a nexus, activist Arvind Kejriwal today
demanded a probe by retired Supreme Court judges into the business
relationship between Robert Vadra and DLF and a white paper by Haryana
government on the benefits it allegedly gave to the realty major.

In a follow up to his earlier allegations of a quid pro quo between Vadra
and DLF, he claimed more proof to show there was a nexus between Haryana
government and DLF, which was given land circumventing laws.

Prima facie there is strong evidence (against Vadra). We demand an
independent probe by a Special Investigation Team of retired Supreme Court
judges. An FIR should be lodged against Vadra immediately, he said.

Kejriwal, a former Revenue Service official, claimed that it was a fit
case for the Income Tax Department to raid Vadra but when the country's
Finance Minister himself says that his account books are clean, then who
will have the courage to take action.

While there was no reaction from Vadra, Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi
rejected as baseless the fresh charges levelled by him against Robert
Vadra and said there was nothing new and no proofs.

Daring Arvind Kejriwal to issue a white paper on the finances for his
campaign, Alvi asked Kejriwal to file a criminal complaint in the matter and
approach the court so that law can take its own course.

Rejecting the allegations, Corporate Affairs Minister M Veerappa Moily said
the matter relating to land deals was examined and it was found that there
no serious infirmity or violations of Companies Law. Appropriate action
was taken for a few typical violations, he said.

Refuting contentions that this case would not hold water as Vadra is a
private individual, lawyer Shanti Bhushan said Section 9 of Prevention of
Corruption Act and Section 114 of Evidence Act clearly shows that a solid
case can be made.

[Goanet] Haryana government is DLF's agent, says Kejriwal

2012-10-09 Thread U. G. Barad
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Haryana-government-is-DLFs-agent-sa
ys-Kejriwal/articleshow/16739281.cms

NEW DELHI: Anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday described the
Haryana government as an agent of realty major DLF, which has been linked
with Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra.

The Haryana government has become an agent of DLF, it is not a people's
government, Kejriwal told the media, and asked Haryana to bring out a white
paper on its dealings with the company. He cited court records and other
documents to back his allegations.

Days after he alleged questionable business dealings between Vadra and DLF,
Kejriwal, who distributed documentary evidence to the media, accused the
Haryana government of giving out land at cheap rates to the DLF.

Panchayat land has been handed over to DLF, HUDA land has been handed over
to DLF, FAR (floor area ratio) has been increased for DLF, land use rule
have been changed (for DLF), he said.

Several farmers who alleged that the Haryana government had usurped land
from them, using fraudulent methods, also spoke at the press conference.

Kejriwal said the Punjab and Haryana High Court had in recent times noted
the malafide nexus between the Haryana government and DLF.

A former income tax officer, Kejriwal hit out at Finance Minister P.
Chidambaram for speaking in defence of Vadra.

All the evidence we have provided today makes it a fit case for an income
tax raid, he said. I have been an income tax officer, and I know it.

But after the country's finance minister speaks in favour of Vadras, which
officer will have the guts to give (Vadra) a notice?

Noted lawyer and India Against Corruption (IAC) member Shanti Bhushan added
that the questionable business dealings between DLF and Vadra were very much
covered by the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Kejriwal also wanted to know why Congress leaders and government ministers
were coming to the defence of Vadra if he was only a private citizen.

I want to know what is the relation between the Congress and Vadra? What is
the relation between Vadra and the government?

Why is the finance minister defending him? Why is the law minister
defending him? All the ministers are trying to save him.

Last week, Kejriwal had fired his first salvo when he alleged that Vadra's
fortunes had escalated sharply because of his business dealings with DLF.

you became Dhempe. Now the Chinese are coming and you will become Dempoo.

Yes Alfred my friend, remember that day as if it was yesterday.  All dressed up
and ready to go to school, hair neatly braided...had some tests that day I
remember and they came from all sides surprising an unprepared little land..
the army hungry for foreign goods, walking into the shops and looting goods
like watches and perfume.  Poof! pushed down our gullets like castor oil
whether we liked it or not...rosy pictures painted for gullible
fools...promises never kept.

[Goanet] Thanksgiving weekend in Toronto

2012-10-09 Thread Mervyn Lobo
Folks,
As some of you know, the Tanzanians in Toronto have an annual dance during our
Thanksgiving, which is always the first weekend of October. This is also a long
weekend in the US and people there do make the effort to visit Toronto. The day
after the formal Tanzanite dance, the Zanzibari's here organize a family event
called the Zando. This year, the St. Joseph's Convent School, Dar es Salaam had
its re-union in Toronto too and people from all over the world including
Tanzania, the US, the UK, France, Denmark, S. Africa, India, Australia, etc.
etc. were in town to celebrate. The reunion had more than 600 attendees.

The chief guest at the Tanzanite function was a Masai, who is the Head of
Chancery at the Tanzanian High Commission in Ottawa. He too is an alumni of
SJCS. The ambassador could not make it to the functions as the President of the
United Republic of Tanzania was on an official visit to Ottawa.

For those interested, here are a few unedited clips shot by my hand held,
pocket camera. Some of you will notice that the music at these events is
similar to what is played at Goan events in London, Mumbai and even Goa. One
video has in it the person who I think is the prettiest girl in the world. She
is wearing a green dress.
