[efloraofindia:205863] Dipterocarpus (‎Dipterocarpaceae)

2014-11-11 Thread J.M. Garg
Dear members,

I have updated eFI (efloraofindia) page on Dipterocarpus
https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/a---l/d/dipterocarpaceae/dipterocarpus
(Pl.
click).

Attempts have been made to incorporate most of the species available in
India nearby areas with details keys directly or through links as far
as possible. It’s quite possible that there may be some discrepancy in the
accepted names synonyms taken from other links.

Species discussed so far in efloraofindia are given at the bottom of the
page in the form of links against Subpages. On clicking them one can see
all the details.

If someone can provide complete list of Indian species with source
references it will be wonderful.

Any comments/ corrections are welcome.

would be grateful if the picture below could be identified. The fruit is
from a small shrub at c. 1600m in Sikkim. I am told that it is added to
the mixture locally called 'Marcha' used for fermentation. Have tried to
get the picture from all sides. The fruit is very small.

 Kind regards,

BBC bonsai exhibition and braya, blue braya yellow etc etc Neither
Blue and yellow forsythia, Blue and yellow pea tree...(FORSYTHIA because
 of the weeping habit)

I went back to searching my specimen: pea like flowers on a shrub or a
tree found Caragana ... wiki has a page:
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caragana#mediaviewer/File:Caragana_distribution.svg

and my choices boil down to Caragana aurantiaca or Caragana pygmaea

I have not seen any seed pods on the specimen I have seen or photographed
in September this year... Plant has that drooping habit that SIVA has shown
 above.

 Thanks for your help

Many thanks for all your efforts in trying to identify this plant which
was introduced to Sri Lanka. Based on the description of leaves and flowers
it may probably be Caragana aurantiaca.

Yes Nidhan Ji, it should be tentative. R.rothi is a relatively lower
altitude species. We have 7 species of Rhynchosia in Uttarakhand-
R.capitata, R.falconeri, R. himalensis, R. minima, R. pseudo-cajan, R.rothi
and R. tomentosa.
Need further checking of literature.

 Dear All,
would be grateful if the picture below could be identified. The fruit
is from a small shrub at c. 1600m in Sikkim. I am told that it is added to
the mixture locally called 'Marcha' used for fermentation. Have tried to
get the picture from all sides. The fruit is very small.

I am finding it difficult to get used to this efloraindia.

I had posted 2 photos. I am unable to see anything myself. You can see only
1 photo or 2 photos?

This is certainly not a mango tree although very much akin to mango.

Dear Amogh,

Usually botanists expect a plant image either in flowering or fruiting
condition for correct identification. Preferably image should be little
close up.

This is *Eragrostis tenuifolia*. The characteristic feature is a gladular
patch in the middle part of the pedicel of each of the spikelet clearly
visible in IMG_7230.jpg. The lemmas have a small mucro at the tip and the
lateral nerves are not visible. The IMG_7230 tells it all.
This is a common grass found in places having a moderately cool climate
and is found in waste places, road sides, etc. and if left unmowed or not
grazed, can grow tall. The leaves are narrow. Found in Bangalore, Munnar,
Ooty, Kodaikanal, Dehradun and similar cool localities and also in Delhi.

[efloraofindia:205927] Vateria (‎Dipterocarpaceae)

2014-11-11 Thread J.M. Garg
Dear members,

I have updated eFI (efloraofindia) page on Vateria
https://sites.google.com/site/efloraofindia/species/a---l/d/dipterocarpaceae/vateria
(Pl.
