Another reason, is the quick start is why people are not hearing a sound when they shut their computer off or turn it back on. Also, the quick start does not shut the computer totally down, so it is not the same as a complete shut down. I do not like the quick start for all of these reasons. There is about a ten second difference on the 8 GB machine with a 5400 RPM boot drive. The only time quick start comes into play for me is when I am having issues with Jaws or office or windows itself. Sometimes I need to reboot and the reboot does not work as it should because of the fast start being enabled. There are times when you will find that you need to restart and having this option enabled will complicate whatever you are troubleshooting. Sometimes you just need a clean reboot. I actually have more issues with starting up while having a pair of large external drives connected slowing down my restart or cold startup than having this option enabled or disabled. Because I have the option to scan external drives enabled in my antivirus application, it will sometimes slow down my startup or restart. If I unplug everything from the machine before starting or restarting I can be up and running in seconds no matter if the option is checked or not checked. But if I need to troubleshoot or install something I personally want that option to not be checked. [JAWS-Users] A Facebook access question
Hello, If this has already been covered, I apologize, but I booked back through several days' worth of postings and saw no reference to it. One of my work duties requires me to "publish" updated information in the Notes section of our Facebook page. Until a few weeks ago, this was easy to do, by engaging the "Write A Note" button within the Notes section and pasting prepared content into that edit box. Now that button and, for the most part, the whole Notes area, seem to be inaccessible. I say "seem" because a friend in Tech Support says that there's a new tab, labeled "More tabs" which appears to give access to the necessary Notes and button. However, she also said that even though she could see them on the screen, neither of us could reach the necessary screen section with any combination of PC and JAWS cursors, including routing either one to the other. Obviously this isn't just a JAWS issue; Facebook seems to have done some basic re-configuration. But my inability to post anything current in the usual way, even with sighted help, is really causing a problem. Has anyone else on the list run into this, and can you suggest a way to reach the "Write A Note" button? Or, is there a newer way to get to that area for "publishing" them? I'm out of ideas, and so are the people I've asked for help, so I'd really appreciate any feedback I get. Thanks. Re: [JAWS-Users] Getting the applications key working on new HP laptop
Hi Kurt. This is Helga! How are you? I don't think function key works with the f10 for the application key. I use to have an HP laptop before, and for the application key I did shift F10, not function key F10. Have you tried doing shift F10? Just wondering. If not, I recommend you try that! Try holding down the function key as you use the f1 or 2 keys. See if that helps. It is not convenient, but at least you can use the function keys as you normally would. You may have to use the shift f10 as the applications key. -Original Message- From: wayne smith Sent: Tuesday, December 29, 2015 9:33 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Getting the applications key working on new HPlaptop I have a new HP laptop and I use either the right mouse button on the numb pad or there is a double bar at the bottom of the keyboard under the spacebar and the right side of that opens the context menu. Hi, I had to to have sighted help as it took four hours for windows to update completely. Once done it was easy as as soon as you plugged it into the HDMI video you not only received video you had immediate sound. So to then run JAWS exe was easily done as once the exe was started the setup took over. Hopeing to give this little unit a good testing this week and weekend. robin -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of valiant8086 Sent: December 30, 2015 7:06 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Kangaroo computer and JAWS 17 Hi.
