Hi everyone, as stated in my answer from some time ago, the issue is that the JNLP for Java versions from v7u45 must be signed. That means the build process for the slave-JAR must be extended accordingly. Custom columns in Jobs view
Hi everyone! My research didn't bring any positive results, so I assume it is not possible but maybe I overlooked something: is it possible to add custom columns to the jobs view(s)? I know that some plugins exist that extend the possible columns, but what I need in some way is to display the current mercurial branch that is set in the SCM configuration. Of course this is a pretty specific requirement, so what would work for me is if there is some extension that allows to use an expression or the like to retrieve the value for a column. That way of course things can break if internals change or if the SCM is not mercurial, but it would be up to us then :-) Does anyone know of such a possibility? Antwort: Java Version 7, Update 45 warning every time I try starting the slave
Hi Jeremy, with Java7 u45 some big changes have been made to security handling. We were massively affected with our own applications which are also delivered via webstart. You can't do anything, the provider of the application (and the JNLP for it) has to take some actions. (or, maybe you also can turn down java security settings to basically "none", but usually this is neither wanted nor allowed) In our case this was adding some new manifest headers to all application JARs and signing the JNLP as well, not only the JARs. I will check later whether there is already a JIRA issue for that. I believe this is quite important, especially if you're working at a company where you can't control what Java versions become installed (and using the latest is usually favoured by most sysadmins) Mit freundlichen Grüßen / kind regards i.A. Hi Markus, while I understand your point of view (thought the same some time ago) I nowadays highly recommend to use explicit tool versions for everything. So there is only ANT 1.9.2 on Master and no other ANT installation. Then I created a project with the "Run Ant" build task and explicitly specified to use "ANT 1.9.2" in the "ANT version" configuration line. The project builds very well. Then I removed "ANT 1.9.2" and replaced it by "Standard". The project does not build now. It says I have to configure the ANT version in the job config. This is weird. What is "Standard" good for, if it neither automatically chooses the sole ANT installation found on Master, nor allows me to configure "ANT 1.9.2" to be "Standard"? Hi Clemens, to my knowledge there's no such plugin. But you can use the API to easily pull that information. So if you just need some sort of overview I believe a simple script scraping the data from the instances instead of a plugin will do the trick. To see information available via API browse to http://YOURJENKINSINSTANCE/api/xml There you'll see all jobs coming like that JOBName http://YOURJENKINSINSTANCE/job/JOBName COLOR where COLOR is the interesting stuff for you: it's encoding the build state like "blue" for "all fine!", "red" for "failed", "aborted" for (well, yeah) "aborted" and so on. Antwort: Installing operating systems on slaves via Jenkins
Hi Manish, the very simple answer is: you can't do this. A slave is not sort of "remote controlled" in the sense of performing any operation on it you could imagine. Even if you could manage to trigger a OS installation on it: how should the Master communicate with it afterwards? You would burn the bridge you're standing on. What I *could* imagine to do is to perform the tests on a VM and to somehow trigger the VM host to start from a fresh VM image every time you execute the test. But I'm no expert on that sort of stuff in any way so I have no clue whether you could trigger that sort of stuff in a headless manner at all. A very basic question of course must be asked as well: isn't there a flaw in your test process if you need a complete fresh OS to run it? Antwort: request on version Jenkins ver. 1.494 upgrade
Bala, I already told you on the Sonar list, now I'll repeat this on the Jenkins list as well. Mailing lists are not some sort of "dump-your-problems" facility. Seriously. Usually one should do the following before approaching others: - get the basics straight. The basics and also advanced topics can be found in the respective documentation (you read that, right? if you didn't you know what to do the next days) - analyze your problem (google is a fantastic tool btw) - stuck? analyze it again - if you're really stuck, then is the time to search for help from others All your mails scream, that you neither did read any introductory documentation nor did take a closer look into any of your issues. This is not how it's meant to be played. This may sound harsh, but you're generating loads of traffic that nobody helps. regards Andreas Schilling CAE Processes & Data Management ------- Dipl. Inf. Hi there! We have the following problem: for a job the option "e-mail notifications to individuals who broke the build" is activated. Our SCM is Mercurial/Kiln. Now it seems when sending out the mails the commit information from Mercurial is parsed. hi Sven, there you go: http://YOURSERVER/job/$ {buildName}/api/xml?xpath=/*/nextBuildNumber" dest="buildNumber.xml" /> To make this work you need to insert the correct URL of your Jenkins instance and the job name you want to get the build number from. In our case we pass this in as the property buildName, but for a first test you can hardcode it. Or maybe you don't need it configurable at all. Hope that helps. Jenkins keeps forgetting user rights
hi everyone! we're facing the problem that our Jenkins instance keeps forgetting user rights quite regularly. has someone faced this problem as well? it's like that: at some point suddenly people come up to my desk and tell me that they can't run/edit/delete/whatever their assigned jobs anymore. when I look into the rights assignment (we use the roles/rights plugin btw, but it also happened using the standard built in rights management) the rights of that user are still assigned. They just seem to become ignored. Deleting the rights for that particular user and reassigning helps. What botheres me is that it seems totally random when it happens. Also, using different casing with the login names (e.g. if we have a user John Doe we'd have the variants "jdoe" and "JDoe") randomly fixes the problem. sometimes we need to assign it to jdoe again, sometimes to JDoe to make it work. For login Jenkins seems to be case insensitive anyway to our knowledge. There's only one thing I *could* imagine it has something to do with: we're reusing also auto generated users (that is, from SCM checkouts) because we don't want to need our developers to remember another login name for our Jenkins instance than their regular domain login of our company. Maybe for some odd reason that can cause the rights to be forgotten when checkouts happen? any help is highly appreciated. the overhead generated by having to fix the rights issues is growing and growing as more projects are put onto Jenkins. kind regards, Andreas Schilling CAE Processes & Data Management ------- Dipl. The core is already build on Java6, but until now still backward compatible with Java5. Therefore we would like to know from you (Users) whether you have an issue with this upgrade. Antwort: SVN auth cache?
Hi Jeff, I think the preffered way would be to enter credentials via http://${YOURJENKINSINSTANCE}/scm/SubversionSCM/enterCredential kind regards, Andreas Schilling CAE Processes & Data Management --- Dipl. Gesendet von: jenkinsci-users@googlegroups.com When I first set up Jenkins I configured many of the initial jobs to pull from SVN using my personal user credentials. Once I got it working, I got our IT guys to create me a service account that is used to do the builds and changed all of my jobs to use the service account. This worked great until this morning when I had to change my password. There is something on the Jenkins server that has cached my personal credentials which it seems to be attempting to use before it tries the Service Account. By doing this, it keeps locking my account. I am running on Windows server 2008 R2 x64 with Tomcat 7. I have removed TortoiseSVN and SlikSVN, removed all cache folders I could find from my /AppData/ folders, removed all subversion.credentials files from each job folder and reran all jobs, verified that the subversion credentials file has the Service Account, but it is STILL attempting to authenticate using my old password and I'm missing something. I fired up WireShark and verified that it is connecting and getting a HTTP/401 error for most of my jobs. Can someone point me to other places to look for SVN credentials? -- Jeff Vincent predato...@gmail.com See my LinkedIn profile at: http://www.linkedin.com/in/rjeffreyvincent I ♥ DropBox !!
Plugin to have several rows of View-Tabs
Hi everyone! we're using views to group our jobs and as we're having quite some jobs running now the views are starting to become quite a number. What would be the best way (or plugin) to have them layed out in multiple rows? Because it's quite annoying to scroll in the browser to reach the right view. Antwort: Re: Jenkins as Windows Service; Mercurial.ini
Hi Jesse, all of the described locations didn't work for our case. We wanted to use the registry key, but for whatever reason this didn't work either. Finally we used HGRCPATH environment variable which worked for us. Unfortunately this is a pretty harsh override, so we had to additionally create the .hg/hgrc files in the hg installations (with the hgrc file being simply the default config from the installation with another name). Thanks alot for the help! Andreas Schilling CAE Processes & Data Management --- Dipl. Inf. You can also pass '--config section.key=value' as part of the Mercurial command, so defaults could be configured in the Mercurial installation your jobs use (see $jenkins/configure). Of course this is less secure than storing credentials in a local file location; for example, the values will probably appear in build logs. By the way if you are trying to use client certificates, rather than just a username/password combo, and get it to work, please update JENKINS-7351 [2] accordingly. Jenkins as Windows Service; Mercurial.ini
hi everyone! we're currrently setting up our new mercurial solution and are facing a problem getting the builds to run again. our jenkins master is set up as windows service using the windows local system account. where are we supposed to put the mercurial.ini with the credentials for the https access? on the slave it works fine, but the slave service is run as another user, not the local system user. thus we simply put the .ini file into the user home as you can read in many tutorials and it worked. we're not keen on simply changing the user our master runs on, because we're not sure what else it might affect. has anyone ever straightened that out? Btw, mercurial plugin version is 1.34. kind regards and thanks for any help in advance, Andreas Schilling CAE Processes & Data Management --- Dipl. Inf. Antwort: New guy questions
hi there! here are some answers: - there are of course config files for everything behind the scenes in jenkins, but (*cough*) unlike in CC you can nicely configure anything from the UI, so there are rare cases where you need to fiddle with XML or the like. - we are using MSBuild, devenv directly and also tooling like IncrediBuild on Jenkins. So, yes, all of this works fine. - I don't know of specific windows samples, but it's really quite easy. Getting the basics set up is IMHO more of a job in the beginning than later on setting up the actual builds. - SVN publisher is not java only. it's unfortunately not too mature. Some time ago we applied some patches on our own. Be sure to read the appropriate wiki pages. - you surely can use CMD scripts if something doesn't suite yuo, I for myself however would try to go along with the appropriate plugins. Just browse the Jenkins plugins site, there's one for really nearly everything. Also, you type the batch-commands directly in the UI, so there's only virtually a CMD file behind the scenes (it gets generated on the fly). Operations are in order as you inserted them. In general, I'd recommend you to run your Jenkins locally on your machine first (a matter of <1 min of effort, really) and get your hands wet with the first experiments before you go "live". Tried Cruisecontrol.net, very hard to figure everything out. Is there a file behind the scenes in Jenkins, like the ccnet.config file in CCnet? I am using this as a service on Windows. We have VB.net and C++ projects. I can use MSBuild for the VB stuff, but msbuild does not work well for c++ (Visual Studio 2008), can you use devenv in Jenkins (or what)? Can you point me to any related windows examples? I have the VB build working in Jenkins, now trying to get the binaries into SVN. Is SVN Publisher only for Java projects,if not any examples how to do? Is a windows cmd file the way to go using "SVN commit"? If you create steps in the wrong order, how to get them in correct order, (delete and re-create, or edit the behind the scenes file (if there is one))? If you have spaces in the paths like "Program files", do you have to use quotes (URLs and paths)?
Still not able to autoinstall JDK
Hi everyone, we just upgraded to Jenkins 1.464 but still are not able to autoinstall a JDK. It downloads a HTML file with the content: Sorry! In order to download products from Oracle Technology Network you must agree to the OTN license terms. Be sure that... Your browser has "cookies" and JavaScript enabled. You clicked on "Accept License" for the product you wish to download. You attempt the download within 30 minutes of accepting the license. Do I somehow need to re-enter my credentials?
