The Parable of the Lost Sheep _ "Take care that you do not despise one of these little once; for, I tell you, in heaven their angels continually see the face of my Father in heaven. What do you think? If a shepherd has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little onces should be lost". [JOYnet] A little enthusiasm
Dear friends, It was yesterday that Priya put up an invitation to have sharings and discussions on it.Since the discussion will only last 15 days,I think we Joynetters have to speed up a little.Like Mathew said,it's a good opportunity for us to learn and grow together.Let's not waste this chance. Jesus' zeal for His Father's house made Him clean it up with a WHIP.Where did the zeal come from? In St.John's gospel,Jesus explains His relationship with the Father. They are so close that He says they are one. I once read somewhere about fearing God. One day,the writer's car had a break down.It took some time for him to repair it.While he was repairing the car, fear of his wife made him do it faster. It was not that his wife would beat him up or anything. She would be waiting for him and would be worried about him.He always wanted to please his wife and did not want her to be sad.Fear of making his wife sad was what made him speed up. Similarly, when God wants us to fear him,he does not want us to tremble before him as before a lion or any other wild beast. It is this fear borne out of love that He expects from us. Zeal for God comes from this love for God.We may have experienced times when we were zealous and times when we were not. That is not true zeal.It cannot be that we love God at one time and at another time,we don't.That is not true love. In fact,we can find out how much zeal we have not by what we do for God but by how much time we spend with Him. [JOYnet] CHURCH UNITY OCTAVE]]]]]]
Dear Loving Friends, In a time of divisions and discords once again here comes the "Church Unity Octave" (Jan 18 - 25) the week specially set apart to pray for the unity among Christians. We all know well the need of it, especially in light of the happening some of our sister Churches in India (Kerala) in recent past. In a global spectrum also the need for unity has only increased, for if we are not united in HIM, we will loose the meaning of our existence. This week was designed by Pope Paul VI and has been observed diligently ever since. Much progress has been made in the field, but we need to go miles before we reach the goal "that they may be one as we, Father are one". So I would advise all the Joynetters to personally take it a commitment to pray for the unity among Churches, especially this week. The "how" of it may not be known to us, for it is the work of the "HOLY SPIRIT". And the leaders of the Churches will work on the practical means. But we can sincerely pray for it. "O, Lord, sent your Spirit of unity and love upon all the Church leaders, and members, so that soon the unity for which You prayed may be restored, Amen". With Love, Fr. My comments on [JOYnet] Daily Bread 0180102003
Hi Joynetters, Permit me to share with you the background of the passage Shared by Primeson . The Last Day of the festival of the Shelters or the Great day as it is said was the day when the Jews would pour water across the court yard of the Temple. Just close your eyes and imagine the scenario , the courtyard of the temple is filled with flowing water, and jesus standing there proclaiming to the people... the words you read below. "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, 'Out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers of living water." Doesnt it feel beautiful..? He is saying the same to you today.. Whenever you see flowing water let it remind you of this loving invitation that christ gives us. Love and Prayers Ravi Mumbai Primeson James <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Rivers of Living Water _ On the last day of the festival, the great day while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, 'Out of the believer's heart shall flow rivers if living water'." No he said this about the Spirit, which belivers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified. [JOYnet] St. Charles of Sezze (Saint of the Day)
Hi, Saint of the Day January 18, 2003 St. Charles of Sezze Charles thought that God was calling him to be a missionary in India, but he never got there. God had something better for this 17th-century successor to Brother Juniper. Born in Sezze, southeast of Rome, Charles was inspired by the lives of Salvator Horta and Paschal Baylon to become a Franciscan; he did that in 1635. Charles tells us in his autobiography, "Our Lord put in my heart a determination to become a lay brother with a great desire to be poor and to beg alms for his love." Charles served as cook, porter, sacristan, gardener and beggar at various friaries in Italy. In some ways, he was "an accident waiting to happen." He once started a huge fire in the kitchen when the oil in which he was frying onions burst into flames. One story shows how thoroughly Charles adopted the spirit of St. Francis. The superior ordered Charles then porter to give food only to traveling friars who came to the door. Charles obeyed this direction; simultaneously the alms to the friars decreased. Charles convinced the superior the two facts were related. When the friars resumed giving goods to all who asked at the door, alms to the friars increased also. At the direction of his confessor Charles wrote his autobiography, The Grandeurs of the Mercies of God. He also wrote several other spiritual books. He made good use of his various spiritual directors throughout the years; they helped him discern which of Charles ideas or ambitions were from God. Charles himself was sought out for spiritual advice. The dying Pope Clement IX called Charles to his bedside for a blessing. Charles had a firm sense of Gods providence. Father Severino Gori has said, "By word and example he recalled in all the need of pursuing only that which is eternal" (Leonard Perotti, St. Charles of Sezze: An Autobiography, page 215). He died at San Francesco a Ripa in Rome and was buried there. Pope John XXIII canonized him in 1959. love + prayers, Joseachayan / Jeddah / Saudi Arabia = Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. [JOYnet] THE CARPENTER
THE CARPENTER Once upon a time two brothers who lived on adjoining farms fell into conflict. It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery, and trading labor and goods as needed without a hitch. Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence. One morning there was a knock on John's door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter's toolbox. I'm looking for a few days' work, he said. Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there I could help with? Could I help you? Yes, said the older brother. I do have a job for you. Look across the creek at that farm. That's my neighbor; in fact, it's my younger brother. Last week there was a meadow between us and he took his bulldozer to the river levee and now there is a creek between us. Well, he may have done this to spite me, but I'll go him one better. See that pile of lumber by the barn? I want you to build me a fence - -an 8-foot fence - so I won't need to see his place or his face anymore. The carpenter said, "I think I understand the situation. Show me the nails and the post-hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases you. The older brother had to go to town, so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day. The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing. About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job. The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped. There was no fence there at all. It was a bridge-a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work handrails and all and the neighbor, his younger brother, was coming across, his hand outstretched. You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I've said and done. The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge, and then they met in the middle, taking each other's hand. They turned to see the carpenter hoist his toolbox on his shoulder. No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you, said the older brother. I'd love to stay on, the carpenter said, but I have many more bridges to build. REMEMBER THIS: God won't ask what kind of car you drove, but He'll ask how many people you drove who didn't have transportation. God won't ask the square footage of your house, but He'll ask how many people you welcomed into your home. God won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet, but He'll ask how many you helped to clothe. God won't ask about your social status; He will ask what kind of class you displayed. God won't ask how many material possessions you had, but He'll ask if they dictated your life. God won't ask what your highest salary was, but He'll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it. God won't ask how much overtime you worked, but He'll ask if your overtime work was for yourself or for your family. God won't ask how many promotions you received, but He'll ask how you promoted others. God won't ask what your job title was, but He'll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability. God won't ask what you did to help yourself, but He'll ask what you did to help others. God won't ask how many friends you had, but He'll ask how many people to whom you were a friend. God won't ask what you did to protect your rights, but He'll ask what you did to protect the rights of others. God won't ask in what neighborhood you lived, but He'll ask how you treated your neighbors. God won't ask about the color of your skin, but He'll ask about the content of your character. God won't ask why it took you so long to seek Salvation, but He'll lovingly take you to your mansion in heaven, and not to the gates of Hell. === This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list.
