[JOYnet] good one!
The Tale of the Tea Cup: There was this couple who used to go to shop in the beautiful stores. This was their 25th Wedding Anniversary. They both liked antique and pottery, especially teacups. One day in a beautiful shop, they saw this beautiful teacup. One said, May I see that? I never have seen one quite so beautiful. As the lady handed it to him, suddenly the teacup spoke, you dont understand, it said, I havent always been a teacup. There was a time when I was red and I was clay. My master took me and rolled me and patted me over and I yelled out, Let me alone. But he only smiled, Not yet. Then I was placed on a spinning wheel. The teacup said, and suddenly I was spun around and around and around and around. Stop it, Im getting dizzy, I screamed. But the master only nodded and said, Not yet. Then he put me in the oven. Id never felt such heat! I wondered why he wanted to burn me. I yelled! I knocked at the door. I could see him through the opening and I could read his lips as he shook his head, Not yet. Finally the door opened, he put me on the shelf and I began to cool. There thats better, I said. Then he brushed me and painted me all over. The fumes were horrible. I thought I would gag. Stop it! Stop it! I cried. He only nodded, Not yet. Then suddenly he put me back into the oven, not like the first one. This was twice as hot and I knew I would suffocate. I begged. I pleaded. I screamed. I cried. All the time I could see him through the opening nodding his head, saying, Not yet. Then I knew there wasnt any hope I would never make it. I was ready to give up. But the door opened and he took me out and placed me on the shelf. One hour later, he handed me a mirror and said, Look at yourself, and I did, and I said, thats not me, that couldnt be me, its beautiful. Im beautiful! I want you to remember then, he said, I know it hurt to be rolled and patted, but if I just left you, youd have dried up. I know it made you dizzy to spin around on the wheel, but if I had stopped, you would have crumbled. I know it hurt and it was hot and disagreeable in the oven, but if I hadnt put you there, you would have cracked. I know the fumes were bad when I brushed and painted you all over, but if I hadnt done that, you never would have hardened. You would not have had any color in your life, and if I hadnt put you back in that second oven, you wouldnt survive for very long because the hardness would not have held. Now you are a finished product. You are what I had in mind when I first began with you. Thats life, friends. Thats my life and it is your life. Some of you are in the oven, screaming and hollering, Let me out of here! Some of you are getting painted and the fumes are bothering you and driving you crazy. Some of you are spinning around and you dont know where you are. Youre saying, Whats going on? Its a mess here, and the Master keeps looking and saying, Not yet, not yet. You see, youve got to trust Him. - Anonymous Sign-up for Video Highlights of 2002 FIFA World Cup This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] What are you haunted by?
WHAT ARE YOU HAUNTED BY? What man is he that feareth the Lord?" Psalm 25:12 What are you haunted by? You will say - By nothing, but we are all haunted by something, generally by ourselves, or, if we are Christians, by our experience. The Psalmist says we are to be haunted by God. The abiding consciousness of the life is to be God, not thinking about Him. The whole of our life inside and out is to be absolutely haunted by the presence of God. A child's consciousness is so mother-haunted that although the child is not consciously thinking of its mother, yet when calamity arises, the relationship that abides is that of the mother. So we are to live and move and have our being in God, to look at everything in relation to God, because the abiding consciousness of God pushes itself to the front all the time. If we are haunted by God, nothing else can get in, no cares, no tribulation, no anxieties. We see now why Our Lord so emphasized the sin of worry. How can we dare be so utterly unbelieving when God is round about us? To be haunted by God is to have an effective barricade against all the onslaughts of the enemy. "His soul shall dwell at ease." In tribulation, misunderstanding, slander, in the midst of all these things, if our life is hid with Christ in God, He will keep us at ease. We rob ourselves of the marvellous revelation of this abiding companionship of God. "God is our Refuge" - nothing can come through that shelter. Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! [JOYnet] WHAT DO YOU WANT?
WHAT DO YOU WANT? "Seekest thou great things for thyself?" Jeremiah 45:5 Are you seeking great things for yourself? Not seeking to be a great one, but seeking great things from God for yourself. God wants you in a closer relationship to Himself than receiving His gifts, He wants you to get to know Him. A great thing is accidental, it comes and goes. God never gives us anything accidental. There is nothing easier than getting into a right relationship with God except when it is not God Whom you want but only what He gives. If you have only come the length of asking God for things, you have never come to the first strand of abandonment, you have become a Christian from a standpoint of your own. "I did ask God for the Holy Spirit, but He did not give me the rest and the peace I expected." Instantly God puts His finger on the reason - you are not seeking the Lord at all, you are seeking something for yourself. Jesus says - "Ask, and it shall be given you." Ask God for what you want, and you cannot ask if you are not asking for a right thing. When you draw near to God, you cease from asking for things. "Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him." Then why ask? That you may get to know Him. Are you seeking great things for yourself? "O Lord, baptize me with the Holy Ghost." If God does not, it is because you are not abandoned enough to Him, there is something you will not do. Are you prepared to ask yourself what it is you want from God and why you want it? God always ignores the present perfection for the ultimate perfection. He is not concerned about making you blessed and happy just now; He is working out His ultimate perfection all the time - "that they may be one even as We are." Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! [JOYnet] ARE YOU EVER DISTURBED?
ARE YOU EVER DISTURBED? "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you." John 14:27 There are times when our peace is based upon ignorance, but when we awaken to the facts of life, inner peace is impossible unless it is received from Jesus. When Our Lord speaks peace, He makes peace, His words are ever "spirit and life." Have I ever received what Jesus speaks? "My peace I give unto you" - it is a peace which comes from looking into His face and realizing His undisturbedness. Are you painfully disturbed just now, distracted by the waves and billows of God's providential permission, and having, as it were, turned over the boulders of your belief, are you still finding no well of peace or joy or comfort; is all barren? Then look up and receive the undisturbedness of the Lord Jesus. Reflected peace is the proof that you are right with God because you are at liberty to turn your mind to Him. If you are not right with God, you can never turn your mind anywhere but on yourself. If you allow anything to hide the face of Jesus Christ from you, you are either disturbed or you have a false security. Are you looking unto Jesus now, in the immediate matter that is pressing and receiving from Him peace? If so, He will be a gracious benediction of peace in and through you. But if you try to worry it out, you obliterate Him and deserve all you get. We get disturbed because we have not been considering Him. When one confers with Jesus Christ the perplexity goes, because He has no perplexity, and our only concern is to abide in Him. Lay it all out before Him, and in the face of difficulty, bereavement and sorrow, hear Him say, "Let not your heart be troubled." Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! Bless Me Lord, With Your patience each day. Help me deal with others, Showing Your love in every way. Let the things that irritate me, Seem like nothing in Your light, And let the time I spend each day, Seem worth it in Your sight. Let anger, worry, and fear In Your love diminish fast, And let the joy in You, I feel, Grow and forever last. Protect my family every day Any where that we might be, And lead us in Your loving way Until Your glory we see. To those who try to hurt us, Lord, keep them far away. Heal us, and fill us Build our home in Your special way. Make our lives a glowing example Of all that You can do When we let You take control And remain true to You. And Lord, if there be Anything You see in me, That will hinder this day, >From being all that it should be, Then cleanse me and change The part that needs renewed, And show me once again, Lord, How to live for You. [JOYnet] How can we connect with God?
How can we connect with God? This question has been on mankind's "top ten" list since the beginning of humanity. Is there a God? If so, can He hear me? If so, does He care? How can we connect with God? Throughout recorded history, mankind has jumped through all sorts of hoops in an effort to answer this question. Have you ever stopped to wonder why? Could it be that there is something--or someone--beckoning? Could St. Augustine have been right, when he wrote in the third century that "Our hearts are made for God, and we are restless until we find Him?" Could it be that there is more to this life (as the song goes) than living and dying? Maybe we've made our search too complex... After all, many of the world's religions come packed with a tremendously detailed list of do's and don't's--all of which are supposed to help us connect with God. Maybe the answer is much simpler than we think. What if the God of the universe had already taken the necessary steps? What if He had done the hard part in enabling us to connect with Him? What if the God who created everything was just as interested--perhaps more interested--in having a relationship with us than we are with Him? That is exactly the sort of God who is revealed in the God of the Bible. A God who is here. Not pushing, or forcing His way into our lives, but who invites everyone to turn to Him--the source of real life. Sometimes He speaks to us in unusual ways... In the Old Testament He appeared in a burning bush. He appeared to His followers in a pillar of clouds. But we are also reminded that He can be seen and heard in the beauty and detail of a simple leaf, a rolling ocean, a radically changed--life or even in a clever phrase on a billboard. If there is a God--and you probably already sense that there is--it would only make sense that He would want to connect with us... that He would want to relate to us intimately. The question that remains is, "How do we connect with God?" How should we make ourselves available to Him and His ways? Here are ten great ideas: Realize He is here, and He's not silent. Speak to Him. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Discover more about Him. Check out his best-seller, The Bible. Come to terms with the fact that He loves, loves, and loves you some more. Make Him a priority in your life. Don't be afraid to ask questions... there are no subjects worth studying more. Choose God's direction for your life. Each day discover new ways to discover and follow Him. Open your own arms to His love. Find and get connected in a healthy and loving local church. Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! [JOYnet] I Love you! I Love you! I Love you!
n the course of a day we are likely to receive a lot of messages asking something of us. I want you! I need you! I own you! I can make you, or I can ruin you. They may not all be this blunt, but we get the message nonetheless. We hear messages which convey someone's opinion of us - some of these are harder to hear than others: You're good looking; you're dumb; you could go places; you'll never amount to anything; you're bad; you're good. Each one affects the way we see ourselves, and may or may not motivate us to try harder or be better. There are messages we long to hear: Will you marry me? Can you come work for us? I'm really sorry. Would you be my friend? How much do you need? I can't live without you. These messages talk to our craving to belong - telling us others want us around. Ever wonder about the messages God sends? Perhaps some of us have been conditioned to think that messages from Heaven are harsh, accusatory, judgmental, and condemning. Do you think of God as a belligerent old man who eagerly waits for the next time He can strike out with a crabby word? Basil Hume told of a day in his boyhood when his mother found him with his hand in the cookie jar. "God would be very angry to see you doing that," she shouted at him as she sent him to his room. Many years later when Hume was an older man and a spiritual leader to his nation, he said, "I have thought of that comment from my mother many times. I am not sure that when I get to Heaven, God will wink and ask why I didn't try to take two?" There are many messages that God wishes to send people. The central, overarching theme of each one is love, spoken with such consistent force that to do it justice means repeating it three times, "I love you;" again, "I love you;" and again, "I love you." Do you get the message? God says, "I love you," even when we have turned against Him. He means no ill will, and He seeks no vengeance when we play the rebel. If we suffer for our sins, it is because we have willfully rejected the blessings He offers when we embrace His ways. He always seeks our best; never our worst. God says, "I love you," when we have hit the wall and are living with the consequences of bad judgment or the injustices of others. He seeks a way to break through in order to assure us of His comfort, and desire to empower us towards working things out. God says, "I love you," when he calls us into personal relationship with him through Jesus, his Son. Jesus put it this way: "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." He desires to be with us, for eternity. In a world which often asks everything of us, it is enticing to know there is a God who comes along side and emphatically says, "I love you, I love you, I love you," --unconditionally, fully, forever. Isaiah 54:10 "' The mountains and hills may crumble, but my love for you will never end; I will keep forever my promise of peace.' So says the Lord who loves you." Check out Yahoo! [JOYnet] We need to Talk
hey lie in the bed with the lights out. They should have been asleep hours ago, but they are awake, each silently seething with anger inside. They may be inches apart spatially, but they are miles apart spiritually. They need to talk, expose their hearts. But they cannot. They work in offices that are just feet apart. Occasionally they pass one another in the halls on the way to the coffee pot or the bathrooms, but as they pass, they look the other way. If communication on business matters has to happen, the messages are passed through another colleague or in the cold vocabulary of an e-mail. They need to talk, hear one another's position. But they cannot. He sits in a church pew, alone. While others carry on with the activities of worship (singing, praying, listening), he is somewhere else. Who knows where. All he knows is that everyone else seems to be in touch with God, but he is not. What he has done, what he has said, what he has thought--it's all a blur now. But one thing is sure: He is a million miles or more from God. What could he say to God to explain it all? Worse yet, what would God say to Him? He and God need to talk. But, as far as he is concerned, they cannot. Talking can be tough when there's been conflict and hurt. Some of us find it easier to become silent and reclusive. We go inward and fight the battle over and over again in our imagination. Or we keep raising the stakes of the battle, becoming angrier and angrier as we brood upon what has been done and said. How they hurt me! On the other hand, some of us do the opposite. When it might be wise for us to be silent for a while, we speak too fast. We explode saying things that increase the heat of the problem. We accuse, we attack, we threaten, we demonize the other person. And when we have exhausted ourselves of words, the damage is worse than ever. Hopefully, somewhere in the middle of the mess, someone says quietly and firmly, "We need to talk." We know what they mean. There needs to be a respectful presentation of the facts, a reasonable description of how each person feels, and a thoughtful recommendation of what can be done to resolve the problem. And, we hope, a moment of closure when each will say, "I'm sorry," and "I forgive." That's what happens when we "talk." Somewhere in the dark night, a husband or a wife needs to break the silence. "We need to talk. I know I hurt you, and I'm sorry." Somewhere during the day, one colleague needs to get up from his/her desk and go to the other office and say, "We need to talk. I've screwed up, and I'd like to make things right." Somewhere (in a church or anywhere else - it makes little difference) a man or a woman needs to hear God's never ending word to us: "We need to talk." "Come now, and let us reason together," God said to a rebellious nation called Israel. With such words, God called people into his presence. Throughout the Bible we find God in search of conversation, never turning away from the smallest opportunity to resolve the conflicts that can easily arise between a person and his/her God. Jesus' story about "The Prodigal Son" illustrates this point with power. A son left home having been granted his early inheritance, half of his father's net worth. After squandering it all, he stumbled home expecting to be treated like scum. Much to his surprise, his father is waiting at the gate with arms opened wide. The father may as well have said the words, "we need to talk," because that is what happened. In fact, the talking, Jesus says, began with a party. Just as the father in the story celebrated the son coming home "to talk", God does the same with us. He says, "We need to talk," to a broken world, to a shattered family, to a despondent man or woman (young or old). Will you enter the conversation? Jeremiah 29:12 "Then you will call me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you." Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! Auctionsfor all of your holiday gifts! This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] Loved the wedding! Invite me to the marriage
here's nothing like a good wedding! For the parents, a wedding is a chance to "showcase" their son/daughter in pride and love. For the wedding party, there is the honor of being associated with the bride and groom as their closest friends. For the bride and groom, the wedding offers a chance to declare their love for one another. For the rest of us, it's a time to experience joy, good food, dance, and be generous to people we love. God must love a good wedding. In fact, one of the first things we know about the public life of Jesus is he attended a wedding where he turned water into wine, his first miracle. He celebrated with the family, and those in attendance. Nothing implies that he skipped out of the party early either. A good wedding, however, is more than fun and entertainment. It is meant to give thanks to the God who brings people together and makes it possible for them to love one another. A wedding is meant to ask God's blessing upon the two people making a commitment to one another. You know the wedding is a good one when two people get serious, look one another in the eye and make promises which they intend to keep for the rest of their lives. Even more though, a wedding is great when everyone in attendance goes away reminded of the power of love and sacrifice in human relationships. But the wedding itself is not all there is to it either. It is only a still photograph in the video of life. There's a lot of living to do after the wedding is over. The wedding is relatively easy to make happen, even a good wedding. It's in the marriage that the wedding commemorates where the challenges begin. More than once God has been invited to a wedding through the prayers, the music, and the liturgy of the ceremony, and soon after ushered out of the marriage - forgotten, dismissed, replaced. What does it mean to invite God to a marriage? What difference would it make if He were an invited guest? You know God has been invited into a marriage when the two people (husband and wife) make a daily effort to acknowledge His presence through prayer and declarations of worship and reverence. You know God is present if you see two people who treat one another with consummate respect and care, who make it their priority to encourage and build one another in love, and who find strength and courage to take on the tough moments of conflict and resolve them in confession and forgiveness. You know God is a guest in a marriage when you see two people who believe that, while making one another happy is important, they pursue higher goals like serving in the larger world in ways that bring value to their generation. It is clear God is a guest in the marriage where the home is marked with peace, tranquility and hospitality, and where kindness, order, and generosity endure. When a couple leaves God behind at the wedding, anything may happen. If a couple invites God along on their marriage, great things will happen. He's promised. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: "Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively. If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it's just too bad, because there is no one to help him. If it is cold, two can sleep together and stay warm, but how can you keep warm by yourself? Two people can resist and attack that would defeat one person alone. A rope made of three cords is hard to break." Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! Auctionsfor all of your holiday gifts! Although things are not perfect Because of trial or pain Continue in thanksgiving Do not begin to blame Even when the times are hard Fierce winds are bound to blow God is forever able Hold on to what you know Imagine life without his love Joy would cease to be Keep thanking Him for the things Love imparts to thee Move out of "Camp Complaining" No weapon that is known On earth can yield the power Praise can do alone Quit looking at the future Redeem the time at hand Start every day with worship To "Thank" is a command Until we see Him coming Victorious in the sky We'll run the race with gratitude Exalting God most high Yes, there will be good times and Yes some will be bad, but, Zion waits in glory...where none is ever sad! [JOYnet] God Uses Problems ...
The problems you face will either defeat you or develop you, depending on how you respond to them. Unfortunately most people fail to see how God wants to use problems for good in their lives. They react foolishly and resent their problems rather than pausing to consider what benefit they might bring. Here are five ways God wants to use the problems in your life: 1. God uses problems to DIRECT you. Sometimes God must light a fire under you to get you moving. Problems often point us in a new direction and motivate us to change. Is God trying to get your attention? "Sometimes it takes a painful situation to make us change our ways." Proverbs 20:30 (GN) 2. God uses problems to INSPECT you. People are like tea bags...if you want to know what's inside them, just drop them into hot water! Has God ever tested your faith with a problem? What do problems reveal about you? "When you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience." James 1:2-3 (NCV) 3. God uses problems to CORRECT you. Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure. It's likely that as a child your parents told you not to touch a hot stove. But you probably learned by being burned. Sometimes we only learn the value of something... health, money, a relationship ... by losing it. ". . . It was the best thing that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to your laws." Psalm 119:71-72 (LB) 4. God uses problems to PROTECT you. A problem can be a blessing in disguise if it prevents you from being harmed by something more serious. Last year a friend was fired for refusing to do something unethical that his boss had asked him to do. His unemployment was a problem - but it saved him from being convicted and sent to prison a year later when management's actions were eventually discovered. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good..." Genesis 50:20(NIV) 5. God uses problems to PERFECT you. Problems, when responded to correctly, are character builders. God is far more interested in your character than your comfort. Your relationship to God and your character are the only two things you're going to take with you into eternity. "We can rejoice when we run into problems... they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady." Romans 5:3-4 (LB) Here's the point: God is at work in your life - even when you do not recognize it or understand it. But it's much easier and profitable when you cooperate with Him! -Unknown Yahoo! [JOYnet] Pray for this Aunty!
Dear All! Greetings in Christ! Yday evening I and my colleague attended the Jesus the Real Vine (JTRV) praise and worship meeting. It was wonderful. When it got over, we parted ways as my colleague had to take another route. As i walked towards the bus stop, I heard voices of 3 ladies behind me asking me if I was alone and going towards the station. They asked me to accompany a friend of theirs who had come for the meeting for the first time and was new to that area. I said fine, I would direct her to the station as I too was going the same way. We got into the bus and this Aunty herself paid for my ticket. She was very disturbed and she attends many prayer meetings. She said her name is Jacintha Amir Khan and we started talking. She told me that she was suffering for the past 25 years. She said she had spoken to Sister Hazel (who conducts the praise and worship at JTRV) but couldn't open up much to her and was being led to talk to me. i just prayed to the Holy Spirit to speak thru me to this lady to help and comfort her. She said she needed prayers for herself and her family. She is married to a Muslim and has 3 grown up children, who have been baptized. Sophia - 25 yrs (has a boyfriend since 8 yrs but are not getting married. Sophia used to be very religious but has turned away from God now. She is under some evil spell and needs healing from evil bondages/spirits and generational curses) Her other 18 yr old daughter Shirin too is under these same bondages. And her youngest son Amin - 16 yrs - can't concentrate on! his studies. She said that all this is due to her sister-in-law (Fehmida Masood Khan) who indulges in these evil practices. She had brought a 'Muslim baba' to this Aunty's place and after that all such problems have been happening. This aunty also has Fibroid problems. The doctors cannot diagonize it though and at yday's prayer meeting, Brother Derick said that one person was being healed of Fibroid problems..This Aunty told me about it and I told her to claim that healing for herself. She kept saying, for so many yrs, i'm under these bondages and am suffering. i told her from today to believe in Jesus and not to confess negative things. i told her to say and repeat that Jesus has set her and her family free from today. She said that and she felt good. She asked me to send in these prayer requests for herself and her family. And i just humbly request you all to pray for this lady and her family, who belong to God's kingdom but satan has taken captive. Jesus will set them free! May God work in their lives and be glorified! Amen. Thank u and God bless! Monisha Bombay Yahoo! GeoCities - quick and easy web site hosting, just $8.95/month. Return everything you borrow. Stop blaming other people. Live within your means and within your seams. Be humble. Listen more; talk less. Every day, do something nice and try not to get caught. Strive for excellence, not perfection. Be on time. Don't criticize anyone for 24 hours. Be kind to other people. Be even kinder to unkind people. Take time to be alone. Admit it when you make a mistake. Understand and accept that life isn't always fair. Let someone cut ahead of you in line. Don't argue. Know when to say something. Know when to keep your mouth shut. Don't make excuses. Don't sweat the small stuff. Yahoo! GeoCities - quick and easy web site hosting, just $8.95/month. This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] When to Pray
A little girl who suffered greatly during thunderstorms was told by her mother to pray when she was alarmed. One day at the close of a fearful storm she came to her mother with the information that praying during the danger brought her no relief. "Then," said her mother, "try praying when the sun shines, and see if that will take away the fear." The child did so, and when another storm was raging she said sweetly:-- "Pray when the sun shines is the best way, for I am not the least bit afraid now." What a lesson we who are older might learn from this incident! How often do we stay away from our Master until the storms of life drive us to Him for shelter and protection! If we could only give our best, our brightest days to his service, we would have no cause to tremble when the dark hours come on. How very much we miss by not having Jesus to go with us through all our earthly pilgrimage! Yahoo! GeoCities - quick and easy web site hosting, just $8.95/month.
