[lace] Japan
As we watch the tragedy of Japan unfolding please can I use this media to show love and support to all who are suffering. With telephones not operating the internet has been a wonderful way of communicating with family and friends and there may be Arachne members out there who can reach us. Arachne and our love of lace has taught us that today the world is so small. Many of us will have our own family members in Japan and will be sharing a little of the shock. I am sure we should all wish to support them. Jean - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Arachne and our love of lace has taught us that today the world is so small. Many of us will have our own family members in Japan and will be sharing a little of the shock. I am sure we should all wish to support them. I would like to second this. Having family and friends in Japan, this hits much closer to home. I am very grateful for the luck my family and friends have experienced as they are all in good health. Seeing the tragedy on my computer and television screen, I feel exceptionally saddened that so many people are suffering. It feel surreals as I walk the safe streets and realize at the other end of the world people are suffering immensely. At times I even feel guilty. In one day their life turned around. How do you recover from such tragedy? Let us stop and realize how lucky we all are. [lace] Lace
Hi Sure Thank you for your kind words about my edging, delighted you enjoyed making it. For an older persons wedding why not an edging to go round a photo of the married couple mounted in a particularly good frame? I used a blue gimp around the hearts and mounted it on matching blue fabric. So it was something old (traditional design), something new (just finished making it), something borrowed (the English borrowed the design from the Danes), and something blue (the fabric and the gimp), all in one package. Re: [lace] non-fertility bridal hankie
I had thought of hearts, forgot about the patterns with little horseshoe shapes in, which I have used for an edging once. I always consider the blue (and normally used as a gimp) and was just interested in what other things other lacemakers might bring into their designs. the thought processes and answers have been lovely. Subject: Re: [lace] Facebook scams from Arachne list Hi all, I too have had problems with Facebook in recent months, it somehow dived automatically into my computer and fished out all the email adresses which have ever passed by my inbox! Very embarassing! I read an article in the Spanish press some weeks ago that was saying that this is the new spam, as it ie easier for spammers to infiltrate social networks than email now that email security has improved. Somehow I think that Facebook can unfortunately be somewhat spammy on its own as if you click on the wrong thing it just seems to take off on its own! [lace] lace imprinting
Hello All! My friend in Edinboro, PA just emailed me that Campbell Pottery will have a demo of lace imprinting on clay June 25 26. The artist is Trudi Clark from NJ. They are also hosting a Lily Festival in July with a juried exhibit of artists using any medium to represent the lily. Hmmm. Re: [lace] lace imprinting
I found the pertinent website. http://www.campbellpotterystore.com/upcoming-events/ Some online lace store sells this. I don't know which, but I was shopping online, searching for something lace related and found it. My only problem is that you have to get your lovely lace in touch with raw sticky clay. I'm not confident that washing would make all right again. Lyn in Lancaster, PA, US, where it was a bit nippier than they said it would be. Not sunny, not cloudy. And now it's dark. -Original Message- From: hottl...@neo.rr.com Sent: Mar 14, 2011 1:50 PM To: lace@arachne.com Subject: [lace] lace imprinting Hello All! Re: [lace] lace imprinting
I have, in fact, had some lace imprinted on pottery. It was done locally, and I too, wondered about sticky clay. Turns out the lace, in this case tatting, did not come back gunked up. Yes, it was somewhat dusty but the clay is not wet when they imprint it. It is mostly dry, slightly damp. A superfine lace would not show up well anyway, so a sturdy piece would come out just fine! I do know of some instances when they imprint the lace and then leave it in to burn away. Please verify before committing! [lace] Satellite Tsunami Photos of Japan
A friend sent me this web link. I think you will find it interesting. These are the clearest satellite photos yet. Move your mouse sideways to reveal Then and Now comparison. Look at Fujutseka and Noriaga especiallywhole forests have disappeared as well as half an island in the middle of the river. In one a river has been revealed that was obscured by the forest canopy before. The very last photo both valleys by the sea area have been scoured from the shore inland just like a glacier would produce. [lace] Japanese lacemakers
I have a cousin and her family in Tokyo, and they are all safe. (Not lacemakers) I have also contacted Junko, a lacemaker, who is also safe and well. Many people may know her as she has lived in the UK and USA I think. She was in both my classes at the Denver convention in 2005. She has co-authored a book, I believe, - but it is in Japanese! Another non-lacemaker Japanese lady I know has not replied to my emails - yet! She is not very good at replying, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that she is OK. What a great disaster. What is the world coming to? A terrible start to 2011.
