Re: [lace] Lace "Buddy" map
Miriam, If you look in the archives, you'll see that I had the same problem. IIRC, you have to choose "US", not international or world, and put in "Jerusalem." The problem is not that Israel is so small but that Google maps does not support Israel, although we have a Google office in Tel Aviv. Also, the Google satellite photos are not nearly as detailed as for other parts of the world, although the ones in Google Earth are pretty good now. Hi, I have just returned from the US and am getting slowly through my mail. I tried to add my name to the Buddy map but it wouldn't accept my input since I'm not on the map. I know Israel is s big as a head of a pin on the world map but it has more cities than Just Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. I'll just have to stay where I am since I have no intention of moving from Arad right now . OK... I've been back to the map, and the "find your dot" message doesn't show up - just as Jo said!! I'm as new at this as anyone else, and I'm mystified!! Re: [lace] Lace "Buddy" map
Hi Ilske - I thought there was a good way to do this, but when Jo tried it, it didn't work for her. But, here goes, in case you have better luck... Go to the Lace Fairy website and access the Buddy Map through there (if you've already bookmarked the site, your system may have saved old information and what you get will be the sign-in page!). If you already have a "dot" on the map, go all the way down to the bottom of the list of lacemakers and you should see "View my dot". (or words to that effect). It will automatically take you to your "dot", and you can click on "edit" (right beside "view my dot"), and you'll be able to update or delete your picture and change your comments and other information. I haven't had any trouble adding my photo or updating my information. I hope this works for most people, because I think it's a wonderful idea, and I've enjoyed seeing where most of "us" are, and also who is near me! I'd like to see "Arachne member" in comments (that just popped into my head... it's not in my comments yet!) If you click on "Satellite" and keep clicking "+", you can see a picture of my house, even showing our truck in the park -- which was only ever parked there once, so we know just when the picture was taken. But the red dot is away out in the bike trails and on the other side of Wyland Ditch, which changes name to Cherry Creek when it enters the tourist area. Fantastic! Thanks to Lori to make the map and to Clay to write about it! This is a marvelous thing, how to spread lacemaking all over the world ;-) ! I think, that web has really enourmous power of sharing information and searching for it and this is a wonderful illustration of it. And the more lacemakers will become members of Buddy lace map, the bigger effort it will be for all others! I tried it immediately and it really works - I suceeded to put myself there and also to put the map on my pages http://lacespider.blog.cz/ (following instructions under the button Put it on your side). Really fascinating - thanks to all, who take care of this! B.T.W., I've made my pages Lacemaking - game and creativity bi-lingual, there are some articles for English-speaking guests - http://lacespider.blog.cz/rubriky/in-english , the menu items are in Czech and in English and most pictures in Gallery have English descriptions under the picture (I am still completing the comments). Asside from lacemaking there are some photos from travelling of our family in Gallery (Turistika a fotografovánĂ), that's another of my hobbies, it shows the beauties of our country. Happy lacing to all and have a nice day, Lucy Kudrnova Prague, Czech republic Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2007 11:51:20 + From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [lace] Lace "Buddy" map Hello Spiders! I have just discovered that Lori Howe has added a new feature to her already incredible website! She has set up a "Buddy Map" for lacemakers! When you visit the map, you'll see a map of the world. Actually, you see two maps of the world. The top one allows you to explore various countries and see where the lace activity is (or was...) in each country, along with related pictures such as typical pillows and bobbins, and some of their lace. Very interesting. The bottom map is the new addition! You click on that map and get a list of lacemakers around the world. If you select a country instead of the world, you'll see dots that represent individual lacemakers who have added themselves to the map! I added myself yesterday... and so far, the list is very short. But it will be really fun to see the dots multiply on the map!! You don't have to give a lot of information about yourself, but your name and city/state/country is important. I added a picture as well. Go have a look! Lori's website is http://lace.lacefairy.com <http://lace.lacefairy.com/> . From there, go to "International" on the menu bar, and "Map Search" is the first option on that pop-up menu. Click that, and then scroll down to the second map. Click that, and you'll see the map with dots! Please do add yourself! Once again, thank you, Lori, for being the keeper of this amazing site!
