Re: [lace-chat] birthday wishes
Hello DEvon In the Netherlands the retirement age for both men and women is now 65 and 7 months. And it will go up progressively in the next few years; so when I am 65, I will have to wait another 3-4 years. Perhaps never will catch up. I lived in the USA for 3 years from 1986 to 89, and the UK company Mike worked for, paid into some pension fund called FICA for both Mike and myself. I can claim from age 62 (or later) which is next Monday, and Mike from 65 (which happened almost 4 years ago). I submitted all the paperwork in DEcember, so am now waiting. Agnes When can one become a pensioner in the Netherlands? I didn't think the US Social Security system was more generous than that of the Netherlands. Devon In a message dated 3/1/2013 10:57:49 A.M. [lace-chat] Erica McLeod
Erica was visiting the USA one year in my area, She brought her pillow and sat with us, demoing at county fair. Somewhere I have a picture of the two of us at the fair. In a later year, she came to our IOLI conference in Portland, Oregon, on visiting day. I also remember having her as an exchange partner in one or two of Arachne's exchanges. I will miss her. [lace-chat] Re: Erica McLeod
I too was saddened to hear of Erica's passing. We first met on Arachne and then in person when Erica and Ian visited Phoenix a few years ago and we had a luncheon with other lacemakers from the Valley. My husband Gene came along to the "ladies" luncheon so Ian had someone to talk to about guy stuff and wasn't stuck with singleminded lacemakers. :-) I regularly use the bobbin she gave me as a memento of their visit. Erica was a charming and gracious lady who will be missed by all who knew her. Dear Ian, I was really saddened to learn of Erica's death as I had not heard she was ill. I shall always treasure the memory of the day you both visited me here in Ballarat, Australia, as well as the bobbins you gave me. I have been asked by Ericaâs husband â Ian to let all her friends on Arachne know that Erica lost her battle with cancer on January 27th 2013 Erica was a librarian in Hokitika, New Zealand until her retirement, when with her husband they moved to Coalgate, some distance from Christchurch where she continued with her lacemaking and the activities of the local lace group including the Christchurch Lacemakers. She will be missed by all her friends and also the friendship she gave to lacemakers visiting New Zealand from overseas, she was most gracious in her hospitality when ever we visited New Zealand. Ian has said that he will continue to read all the happenings on Arachne, as Erica often asked him to read what we had written! G'day Girls, Happy Birthdays to both Jean and Agnes. I hope you both have a Happy Day - even, if it a big number with an 0 at the end.!! Mine, this year (May) will have a horrid double number (the one you are avoiding mentioning, Jean!!) Seems to me you're all as old as my big sister Raie in Hobart, Tasmania. Knock the 0 off and be 7 again or do what I do, act your shoe size not the actual age. My DH printed a t shirt for a friend with a certain number plus VAT instead of the whole age with a 0 on. It went down very well. Jean and Agnes have a lovely birthday and dont worry what number it is. Sue T Dorset UK Happy Birthdays to both Jean and Agnes.
